Aside from the name, there is nothing similar between Harry Potter and this movie. The amount of work JK put into her books, the world she created is entirely her own. Sounds more to me like a desperate nobody trying to get a bit of credit off the world's most successful book series.

The character's name is the least important. The fact is that the "Harry Potter" of JK Rowling has won the world and nothing (a vampire who sparkles in the sun, a Harry Potter Jr. or, maybe, a son of a Greek god), NOTHING will change that.

When you think about a young wizard, Harry Potter will appear in your mind. When you think of a vampire, Count Dracula will appear in your mind. When you think of garbage, "Troll" will appear in your mind.

Troll is not garbage. There is a fuck of a lot worse out there. This is just what most horror movies were before they got turned into shaky camera's, CGI and loud noises. Your mind has been dulled by CGI.

It's not a work of art, but it's halfway decent and enjoyable. On a normal scale it might be a 4, but on a horror movie scale, which sets the bar lower to begin with, Troll is a classic and worth a 6 at least.

Harry Potter, as written by Rowling, is proof that there has to be a certain degree of stupidity and lack of imagination for something to become as huge a franchise as hers. Rowling has no imagination, her entire pile of stories is a low brow stew of ideas stolen from people who actually had creative imaginations. Tolkien was naturally creative, Rowling thinks that creativity is measured by photo ops in sunlight parks and jelly beans that taste like horse shit.

No way the HP books are well written stuff and enjoyable as they are dark as so are the movies, Tolkein has inspired many writers including her and her books are well written unlike Stephanie Meyer.

Tolkien actually based pretty much every part of LOTR, THe Hobbit and the Similarion on mythology. Norse, Christian, Greek. He did a divine job writing and surely the fact that he created an entire mythology was not a task to be underestimated, but no writer just starts writing without any external inspiration. I agree though, in light of movies like The Worst Witch, Rowling copied quite a bit.

Here's the thing that gets me. People talk up JK Rowling because supposedly she concocted the story by telling stories to her kids when they were homeless, so heartwarming. It almost doesn't matter that she stole the concept and characters from other works, she's such a loving mother. There was a book written in Russia called something like "The Young Wizard" with a main character bearing striking resemblance to her Harry Potter. To put it mildly, she freaked the fuck out and wanted blood.

I remember watching this as a kid, is was actually a very good family movie and I do recall enjoying it. Ha I even remember having nightmares featuring that truly ugly when I was 6 or so. If Trolls ever existed thats exactly what I'd picture them to look like. Makeup did a great job.

But looking back it now, it truly has aged and aside from the above it is very corny.

A Troll in Central Park is a cartoon. The only thing they have in common is that they are about a troll and it's quite a different troll in both movies, so you shouldn't really compare them.
