As I've gotten older and have been able to view through the prism of the passage of time, I must conclude that we were both correct in our original assessment. It's still CRAP!! I don't like Streisand, but I do think she has one of the greatest voices of all time. The SONG is a genuine classic, but the movie blows!! It did in 1973, and it still does today.

I loved this movie- and the heart breaking finale in which Robert Redford says "I can't" still feels so desperate and poignant.

She is an activist who believes a person can make a difference, he is a man who conforms to the American dream, playing monkey doesn't see, doesn't hear and doesn't talk. We don't get over exs even when we move on, just accept their lessons, go Babs and Rob. They might have moved on but they will always be together. It is only a movie but no doubt many will watch it in the world depressed. We are urged to get over our exs too quick. If we can't we can't. Talk to him not as if he were still there but because he indeed is still there.

I believe most everyone has had a deep love in their life and for whatever reason, they simply can't be together. However, this doesn't make the longing go away. When Katie hugs Hubbel at the end and you can see the tears well up in her eyes, you see that her longing for him hasn't diminished and she has had to accept that they can't be together. Never once when I see this part have I not cried. It's one of the most touching moments in movie history (at least for me it is).
