Politically it would've been much easier for the U.S. to covertly aid Sadaam in eliminating Iranian nuclear facility than going it alone or watching Israel do it.

They are in Iraq NOW... or at least THEY think so. We are in Iraq now risking lives and wasting money with no plan. We need to develop a strategy for empowering the national government and handing over control, and then exiting with most of our forces. What two sides do you speak of? Your comment makes little sense to me as the identity of these two groups you refer to is unclear. And I do not misunderstand the culture of the middle east. The conflict between moderate forces in Iraq and terror groups like Al Quaeda is not over oil. It is a religious war over ideology and control. Iraqis overwhelmingly want more freedom than they have had. Opposition is coming from small sects and from foreigners.
