the top music institutions in Britain have met with Shane and commented that he is a complete one off. However, I don't think he can be compared to Mozart, until his music has lived on for 250 years. So I agree with you in that sense.
So I'm an arsehole? The boy can hear anything once and then play it. He has composed some amazing original pieces, which you probably haven't even heard. He can also, similarly to Mozart, calculate incredibly compleex arithmetic in his head and prove he is like a human calculator. Sounds pretty incredible to me, so what makes me an arsehole for saying that?
This kid is highly unusual. In fact he is gifted beyond belief. The people that claim to be as gifted as Shane, would have had their news story if they really are. Talent like his has it's own unstoppable force. It's best to do your research before casting judgements.
The Yehudi Menuhin School and Royal Academy of Music have stated that they have never come across a person like Shane before, but you can obviously never be wrong about anyting and therefore, I won't waste my time on you any further after this. Let's just say you're as gifted as Shane. There you go. Nothing more to say on the subject.
Have you heard any of Shane's compositions? They are far more interesting and mature than emily bears, so on what basis is she better than Shane? She started aged 2 and Shane started 5 years later and still he is better. Also he has instant recall and perfect pitch. Hears something and plays the whole damn thing on his first attempt. He takes word gifted into another dimension.
This kid goes to my school, but don't assume I'm a child. I've been amazed by his piano pieces, they're far better than mine. Apparently he can just dream them up and play them. Wish I could do that!!! Shane also has perfect pitch and the ability to somehow instantly play whatever he hears and play it well.. Now stop insulting this child, who is indeed a genius. Not Mozart, but Shane Thomas.
@Weejag A lot of the hate is for the reason that he is being compared to Mozart. I agree with you, people should stop the hate, but it isn't fair to call him Mozart.
this kid is good dont get me wrong but there can only be one mozart. mozart was one of those composers whos masterpices will last for hunderds if not thousends of years thats quite rare these days but this kid is young who knows maybe we will see some of his muic in the future along with other great composers
Emily Bear is much better, she started when she was 2 and she could play this much sooner than this kid. She's compared whit mozart too, but she deserves it. That won't say he can't play well, he just shouldn't be compared to mozart I think.
No one should compare some kid to mozart. he was an artist, and some kid who learns how to play piano and gets it right, is not a proof that he/she is a next mozart. no one will be like mozart, everyone is different, unique, he can just be another artist. not mozart.
@listentohella And I love how you took the time out of your day to not only read, but also think of AND comment on a comment you feel so unworthy.
If you would have thought a little more, I was just complaining about how common this story really is, but instead some stupid little prick decides to come in and take Youtube way too seriously.
@pianoboyfriendable Well, unless I'm mistaken, that's how you do it. That's how *I* write my stuff. What, am I supposed to sit down without inspiration?
So you dream up an entire piano piece, fully structured, with all the right dynamics etc.. Then sit at a piano and play the entire thing, perhaps 5 or 6 minutes long, involving thousands of individual notes and play it perfectly on your first attempt? Chopin, Mozart, Scubert and all the greats, spent weeks, months or even years, sat at a piano composing masterpieces. This is not fiction it's fact. Credit where credits due please.
@pianoboyfriendable You don't need the dynamics when you first dream it. When you sit down to play, the dynamics should come with your feeling. Crescendo here, drop to a Pianissimo there, then UP TO A FORTE FORTISSIMO.
Who said I made Masterpieces? Whether it's a "masterpiece" depends on people's reactions to it. All "fact" on music comes from "opinon" of listeners.
yeah so he's composed stuff. what does it sound like? the difference between him and any other kid his age? people who actually let him do this and not restrict him to freaking normal school and chores. anyone can do this, its a matter of those first couple years of life and what they're introduced to as fun and stimulating
@MountieVision fuck no. you couldn't get more wrong. you need talent and a ear for music to do compose a good piece. take a look at scott d davis. he started playing at age sixteen and his parents wouldn't let him play guitar, but now he composes amazing pieces on the piano and he started at age 16. ... He's good and awesome and can play better than me... but this kid at school who's 7 can play better.... but they're both freaking crazy awesome....
He is amazing.. but not on a Mozart level.. as the reporter said, quoting historical fact.. Mozart was composing at age 5.. at 8 he had already written a few symphonies, and Sonatas then at 12 he composed his first Opera.. This kid can play a piano at age 10, again..that is amazing..but dont compare him to Mozart.
i think everybody on here that are being negative can just bit your tongue. I couldn't do this when i was the same age and i don't think that anyone that has bad comments about this little boy cant play a single note or for the most part compose their own music so lay off and let him dream.
Mozart was a composer and started creating amazing music being youger than this boy who plays ok but isn´t any prodigy whatsoever... First: You cannot compare a composer with a player. Second: Mozart´s brain was not normal, this little boy seems to be (fortunately for him) normal. They shouldn´t make him think he is special... it can be dangerous for the development of his personality. He is still very young.
Shane is the man! To get an idea of what he can really do, you have to listen to things he has written himself - that's where he stands out - search 'Shane Thomas Fire and Water'. There's only one Mozart - that's true, but you have to respect amazing composition.

wtf is this???? just coz he plays piano.. makes him mozart?? i bet theres a million CHinese/Korean kids who are far better.....maybe if he writes 10 operas/ hundreds of concertos by the time he's 25 ....could he even be close
No offense but I wanna say that. it's a bit much comparing him to Mozart and also with the right teacher you can learn anything, it's not rare to see a ten year old playing like this in fact not trying to sound boastful I played like this and better at this age. I even was able to hear a song and play it right off of course I started to learn at five which is the age most of these kids start. As these kids grow older they will push this aside rebelling against what their parents want most likely
i think people OVERREACT "with the next mozart" because he might aswell be himself and not compare him to other people because he is a taleneted young lad but not THE next mozart and the reason for that is that mozart could compose his own songs. im not trying to say anything like im better because im not but he is just not "THE NEXT MOZART"
I think the comparison to Mozart is a bit unfair, its just like comparing the kids who gets straight A's in school to Albert Einstein. Or the local bully to Mike Tyson. Sure the child is a prodigy, and is great, but he is not Mozart, he is Shane Thomas.
I believe you have a mistake here..Albert Einstein became a genius when he grew up.While he was in school and university he was bad at everything including mathematics, chemistry or physics.Until 9 years he spoke so slowly and was always thinking minutes on how to say a normal sentince, that everyone including his parents and teachers though he was retarded or something.Anyways, later he became so famous we use him as an example of a smart man or the opposite-loser,when we talk. :)
@greenocool Yeah....that's all fine and dandy, but when you think of Albert Einstein do you think of the slow child, struggling with everything, not being able to talk properly and completely being terrible in the subjects he was able to revolutionize at a later date? No, probably not. You think of the genius, the man who lead the way for modern physics. And that's why I used the comparison, I get straight A's all the time in school and occasionally someone compares me to Einstein too.
I know dude.It isn't right to compare people with someone they're not.Plus,I didn't knew about Einstein's life at first-I though ''he is a genius and always was very smart...'',lol.:)
@greenocool Well see, it doesn't matter if Einstein was slow and struggling, I was comparing the stereotypical Albert Einstein to the kid who gets A's that's all.
@hien512 There's not such thing as "the next Mozart" no one would ever be as great as Mozart was, even if someone as good as Mozart appears he/she won't be the next Mozart, she/he would be only his/herself.
he's good but i mean u gotta start either before 5 to be compared to Mozart Im not hating but this kid is 10 at that age you can pick up anything and im pretty sure he practices alot. Mozart wrote perfect pieces with no correction. when he does that then compare him
I will not dare judge his potential to be a great composer until I hear one of those "22 classical pieces" but musical comparisons are just silly. There will never be another Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Brahms, Chopin, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, or any other name you want to drop. They've said all they've had to say, and you can bet if a time traveler brought any of them to live in our time, they wouldn't write the anything of great importance. It just wouldn't be relevant!
hes no where near mozart at age seven he already had composed pieces and played not only piano but violin to, and at age 8 he had already composed his first symphony
This is just cruel. This kid is playing the easiest of all Mozart sonatas even _I_ learned at age 9, and one day he will learn about Evgeny Kissin and Wen Yu Shen, who knew both Chopin concertos and at least one of the Brahms ones, and it'll make him ashamed that he ever thought he was a prodigy.
Shame on this teacher for deluding him. There are thousands of kids closer to Mozart than this one.
No doubt the kid is talented, but the next Mozart? That's like saying Kenny G is the next Coltrane. There was only one Mozart and one Coltrane. Enough said!!!
ok... curve your fingers, your teacher is stupid, and then you might have a place in this world. And get a grand piano like i have so you will have some real experience playing, and a REAL sounding piano. I have a grand!
Talent is one thing. This kid has no technique and needs a real piano. Otherwise he will never develop the strength that he needs to play more complicated pieces.
Dude those pieces are really easy :s PRODIGY? I played those pieces when I was his age! But why was I not famous like him on the news? Why are all the asians his age who can already play flight of the bumbleebee, gigue etc. are not famous? BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT AMERICANS
We can all hear he is very talented for his age. That is where the comparison stop with Mozart. Until he is composing something as technical as a symphony or opera, lets not compare him to a true genius.
@punkypenguin321 have you price checked a real piano lately? Or looked into the massive amount of maintenance. If Mozart had had to have used one, I doubt it would've effected his output or playing
Mozart was COMPOSING music since he was like 4. Prodigies have been around for centuries. Yes the kid may grow up to be the best pianist ever, but Mozart was a composer. A composer whose music is still around after over 300 years. Why would anyone come to the assumption that there can be another Mozart? No one should ever be compared to Mozart unless they can compose the way he did. He wrote music that can only be described as EPIC. The comparison is irrelevant.
I see some exaggeration. unfortunately. Please buy him a real piano :(

I think the comparison to Mozart is a bit unfair, its just like comparing the kids who gets straight A's in school to Albert Einstein. Or the local bully to Mike Tyson. Sure the child is a prodigy, and is great, but he is not Mozart, he is Shane Thomas.
JakeJohnRogers 9 months ago 81
@JakeJohnRogers
greenocool 3 months ago
@greenocool Yeah....that's all fine and dandy, but when you think of Albert Einstein do you think of the slow child, struggling with everything, not being able to talk properly and completely being terrible in the subjects he was able to revolutionize at a later date? No, probably not. You think of the genius, the man who lead the way for modern physics. And that's why I used the comparison, I get straight A's all the time in school and occasionally someone compares me to Einstein too.
JakeJohnRogers 3 months ago
@JakeJohnRogers
I know dude.It isn't right to compare people with someone they're not.Plus,I didn't knew about Einstein's life at first-I though ''he is a genius and always was very smart...'',lol.:)
greenocool 3 months ago
@greenocool Well see, it doesn't matter if Einstein was slow and struggling, I was comparing the stereotypical Albert Einstein to the kid who gets A's that's all.

i just saw a vid of a girl who started playing at 1 and a half year old SHES THE NEXT MOZART
hien512 10 months ago
@hien512 There's not such thing as "the next Mozart" no one would ever be as great as Mozart was, even if someone as good as Mozart appears he/she won't be the next Mozart, she/he would be only his/herself.
Suizamo 10 months ago
I'm sorry, but Art Tatum was the 'next Mozart' and hardly anyone has heard of him.

TheJeffGoncalves 10 months ago
@TheJeffGoncalves Umm, no? Why would he do that? Even Mozart was taught the music of others as a child.
IsaacTheGuitarist 10 months ago
he's good but i mean u gotta start either before 5 to be compared to Mozart Im not hating but this kid is 10 at that age you can pick up anything and im pretty sure he practices alot. Mozart wrote perfect pieces with no correction. when he does that then compare him
rb4life1988 10 months ago
I will not dare judge his potential to be a great composer until I hear one of those "22 classical pieces" but musical comparisons are just silly. There will never be another Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Brahms, Chopin, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, or any other name you want to drop. They've said all they've had to say, and you can bet if a time traveler brought any of them to live in our time, they wouldn't write the anything of great importance. It just wouldn't be relevant!

That's crap I was playing Rachmaninoff piano concertos for Berlin Phil at age 6

i simply love the fact that the little birdies are enjoying music... that's got into me.. it's wonderful!
Senseless00 11 months ago
This is just cruel. This kid is playing the easiest of all Mozart sonatas even _I_ learned at age 9, and one day he will learn about Evgeny Kissin and Wen Yu Shen, who knew both Chopin concertos and at least one of the Brahms ones, and it'll make him ashamed that he ever thought he was a prodigy.
Shame on this teacher for deluding him. There are thousands of kids closer to Mozart than this one.
demosj 11 months ago 2
Talanted boy)) he will be a great musician if he wont lost hes interest in music))
sgtArif 11 months ago
No doubt the kid is talented, but the next Mozart? That's like saying Kenny G is the next Coltrane. There was only one Mozart and one Coltrane. Enough said!!!
peppersax 11 months ago
@peppersax Kenny G IS the next Coltrane! He will go down forever! FOREVER!!! /s

@Sveccha93 Ha ha. Wasn't aware that there was a comedian onboard.

@Sveccha93 Did you know that in some countries, Kenny G is used as a fast acting laxative?
cnmaster01 10 months ago
ok... curve your fingers, your teacher is stupid, and then you might have a place in this world. And get a grand piano like i have so you will have some real experience playing, and a REAL sounding piano. I have a grand!
jediah556 11 months ago
He's very talented but noone will ever be like Mozart.
tealovesrob 11 months ago
Talent is one thing. This kid has no technique and needs a real piano. Otherwise he will never develop the strength that he needs to play more complicated pieces.
noelsafont 11 months ago
How about the 7-year old from australia got talent..
1. he is younger
2. he could play flight at the bumblebee
3. THAT KID FUCKING 7-YEARS OLD!!
Btw It's nice for this kid but he is no mozart..
AngelGirlFromHell 11 months ago
The kid's got some serious talent BUT... he started playing at seven. Mozart started composing at five.
Different comparison please!

@mozartsmusicblog Thank you!!
Any kid playing the piano at the age of 6 is called "Next Mozart"...!!
Serachfan 11 months ago
Dude those pieces are really easy :s PRODIGY? I played those pieces when I was his age! But why was I not famous like him on the news? Why are all the asians his age who can already play flight of the bumbleebee, gigue etc. are not famous? BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT AMERICANS

heyitsthatoneguy91 1 year ago
We can all hear he is very talented for his age. That is where the comparison stop with Mozart. Until he is composing something as technical as a symphony or opera, lets not compare him to a true genius.
acer320 1 year ago
If I'm not mistaken, the REAL and only mozart played on a real piano. not some crap electric
punkypenguin321 1 year ago
@punkypenguin321 have you price checked a real piano lately? Or looked into the massive amount of maintenance. If Mozart had had to have used one, I doubt it would've effected his output or playing

"next mozart," before or after Emily Bear?
Pianoman899 1 year ago
Mozart was COMPOSING music since he was like 4. Prodigies have been around for centuries. Yes the kid may grow up to be the best pianist ever, but Mozart was a composer. A composer whose music is still around after over 300 years. Why would anyone come to the assumption that there can be another Mozart? No one should ever be compared to Mozart unless they can compose the way he did. He wrote music that can only be described as EPIC. The comparison is irrelevant.
