Fantastic performance by the good ol' Thompson Twins!!!
Sure, Tom and Alannah are great, but Joe Leeway contributed so much (including a co-credit here for Lighting Design), and really perfectly complemented the band.
one reason why i loved MTV in the '80's because I was exposed to all of the great acts such as the Thompson Twins, Duran Duran, Culture Club, U2, Thomas Dolby, the guy that sung "Cars" or yeah, Gary Numan. listen to gospel, contemporary gospel, old school (early rap), r&b, jazz to name a few...what can i say my musical taste just flourished... who am i kidding it still is. LOL :)
see we already were futuristic in the 80's...how much more futuristic can we get? emo dark space...big hair man! i just realized there is an ic at the end of future...really...wow!
I always thought it was funny that Thompson Twins used a live rhythm section onstage, even though on the records, it was all done with drum machines and synth bass. I think Tom Bailey said all the bass lines on Into The Gap and Sidekicks was done with an Oberheim OBX-a.
one of the great bands of the 80's they dared to be original, and had such a great sense of 80's style. Richard Blade and KROQ played the hell out of this band.
I remember seeing this on T.V. Thanks for the wonderful memories from an outstanding band. I also had the pleasure to see them perform live a couple of times, once at Radio City music hall, & once at The Garden State Atrs center as it was known back then.
sequential circuits synths were SO amazing, people today have no idea what a huge impact that company had on music...thanks for this video it is indeed historical on many counts..
I'm not kidding, I saw this entire concert on Nickelodeon when I was a kid! And I never thought I'd see it again. I also remember concerts by Duran Duran, Haircut 100, Talk Talk, and The Fixx. Needless to say Nick was much cooler back then.
I remember putting a tape deck up to the TV to record this particular song and I played it probably 100 times a day till the tape wore out. Man what memories!
Great live performance..takes me back

Hard to imagine that Boris Williams who was a member of The Cure used to be the live drummer for The Thompson Twins.

Around 5 mins in you can see how the lead singer is an attention whore, he bangs on the cymbal than pushes the other guy off the keyboards and jams
