You mention Johannesburg. When I was about 10 I had a teacher that lived there for a while. He had a few tales of the crime, violence, and gang activity there. I don't recall many specifics, but if you've got any stories from back in Africa it would probably make for an interesting video. I remember him saying about cars driving around with their lights off at night, and he was warned not to flash his headlights at them as they would likely chase him and rob him (or worse.)

Beautifully put. Foreigners in China who treat it as a playground deserve everything they get as well. Please film something to put off all these losers even visiting, it makes my skin crawl. I've never been to Shenzhen, but I have spent a lot of time in Shanghai and in the larger cities in Zhejiang and Jiangsu Provinces (plus a bit of time in Chengdu in Sichuan Province). In my opinion the big cities in mainland China are very safe ... much safer (relative to violent crime or street crime) than typical big cities in North America and Europe.

A Chinese friend once told me that you have to be more careful in rural areas in China ... but I've never found this to be the case either.

well,as a Cantonese living in shenzhen i have to say many HKers think it's dangerous to live in a city of china mainland ,because majority of them find the regulations in china are not complete enough which make a city dangerous

I did hear stories about Shenzhen was a place where tourist would get ripped off and it had a lot of crime. And I am across the pacific ocean from china. So I've never ever went there.

The stories on the internet about the factories in shenzhen and the slave labor working conditions and pay makes people think it is an unattractive city to travel to.

hey id been meaning to ask... how hard is it to get a licence there to drive, ride, etc? i recall a friend of mine who now works in japan said it was very hard there to pass their test, and he has driven for 12 years here in the US haha.. i was curious to know about all that in china? great vid! viragos are nice bike by the way.
