They have half the equation figured out and that's how to get the image, but they're missing the actual projection / projector. To see the software and how they did it check out a piece of freeware called ArtToolKit, and although this probably isn't exactly what they use it is a fun way to play with the tech yourself.
Its not quite a "hologram"... seems more like an blue screen... a standard tv/film trick... the exact same way the weatherman shows the moving weather-map. Just programed to be sensitive to the camera's movement in the studio.

1. if it is a hologram, there should be a reflection on the shiny floor. if there are no reflections, therefore, the other news caster is not seeing anything in front of him.
2. if it is a hologram, her holographic image should not move when camera moves. notice her feet is not stuck in place in the red spot when the camera pans.

This is not a hologram. She did not "appear" in the studio. Notice the delay where we see her appear, but the people in the studio waited several seconds to react. A hologram is just a 3-d brodcast or image.
Unless you are talking about that Holodeck thing on Star Trek where they clearly state they use transporter/replicator tech to convert energy into matter and psedo-matter and the computer moves the psudeo-matter and matter like puppets that most will disapear when the power/program is turned off thus it is stil called "holograms".

This is so stupid. Having this "hologram" totally defeats the purpose of having a reporter. This "hologram" isn't any better than someone standing in the studio and talking. Wolf Blitzer says that an advantage of this "hologram" is that there is no one screaming in the background or people yelling, but the purpose of having a reporter on the scene is to give the viewer a look into the environment that he or she is reporting on. Stupid..

This was not a hologram, but a tomogram, which are images that are captured from all sides, reconstructed by computers, then displayed on screen.
Holograms, on the other hand, are projected into space.

No it wasn't a real hologram. It's the first time that's been done on TV but it's not a hologram. He couldn't see her. A hologram is something projected into the room in 3D. They have had the tech, they just never used it cuz' it's kind of pointless and not worth the money.

this is NOT A HOLOGRAM. why?
1. if it is a hologram, there should be a reflection on the shiny floor. if there are no reflections, therefore, the other news caster is not seeing anything in front of him.
2. if it is a hologram, her holographic image should not move when camera moves. notice her feet is not stuck in place in the red spot when the camera pans.
THIS IS CLEARLY MISLEADING. this is why you shouldn't watch too much television.

Of course its not a hologram. Its a 3D image projected on to your screen through the use of graphics technology and cameras. This isn't new technology like they're claiming. Hollywood can do this already. Only difference is that they're doing it live and Hollywood isn't.

wolf can't see her. This is chroma key technology applied with multiple cameras. The cameras in both places match their positions giving the "hologram" a perspective and scale as if it was in studio.

No he cant. Why do you think there is a red spot on the floor? It's there so he knows where exactly to look, doofus. All this is, is a 3D image projected onto your screen so it appears that there is a projection in the studio. Hollywood can do this already. The only difference is that CNN did it Live. You need to look up how holograms, REAL holograms work before you go and believe what television shows.

This is not a hologram. She did not "appear" in the studio. Notice the delay where we see her appear, but the people in the studio waited several seconds to react. They didn't know she was "there" until somebody cued them to react. It's a gigantic waste of money, and just goes to show how "honest" CNN is in their reporting. Turn off the TV. It's all lies. They own your mind.
