  • Brook is very good here, but I will accuse him of making an error.

    The error is that he mistakes saddam hussein for a rational or semi-rational actor.

    He constantly did things that were self-destructive, including a failure to sufficiently comply with WMD rules for decades, for invading kuwait, etc etc etc...

    He was paranoid and a megalomaniac, beyond deterance by even simple threats.

    he was uncontainable. war with him was unaviodable.

  • Oil was a factor. As essential as Bush's altruistism. The goal was to knock the Iraq-EU oil nexus out of competition with the Saudi Arabia-US oil nexus.
