  • I understand the US Department of Energy provides perioding testing of the burial site, and publishes the reports (Google "Surveillance of Site A and Plot M"). There appear to be 4 tests conducted per year, and the level of various isotopes and Hydrogen-3 (as tritiated water) detected fluctuates during the course of the year.

  • @saltypalm: fortunately no, I haven't detected any readings "in the field" in this area that would cause such high readings (>10mR/h).

  • @awesomedan157: I'm not an expert, but these readings are probably typical of what you would find this type of test well, especially shortly after a test (some water with radioactive material may spill out during the test procedure). When we returned a few weeks later, the same test well showed much lower readings.

  • Have you ever had it near a radiation source that caused the detector to beep instead of clicking?

  • so how bad is this reading? is this normal?
