  • Lets get ceriuz!

  • Go Eddie! !!!!!!

  • These big men struggle too much with such little weight.

  • did he die?

  • "Keep going"

  • "2 more no matter what"

  • No matter what...

  • arnold's squat form isnt that great

  • this is overtraining thats why he fell like a stupid kid at the end trying to look big for the cameras doing huge weight with terrible form to look good pathetic oh well serves him right at the end

  • @kingdaleclarke YEA GOOD LUCK WITH THAT THEORY ...

    lmao!!!

  • @kingdaleclarke no you weak bitch he had great form and this isnt overtraining, this is going all out! real training that evokes real results with heavy weights. shit you'll never know about faggot.

  • @mojomatt176 wow tough talk over the internet damn hehehe im scared

  • @kingdaleclarke point's not to make you scared but to make you realize these guys know exactly what they're doing and they have way more experience than you or i. so dont criticize them from an ignorant perspective

  • @mojomatt176 im stronger than youll ever be

  • @kingdaleclarke HAHAHAHA you're funny. im not even gonna ask for your bs stats

  • @mojomatt176 i am stronger than you though i can keep going beyond the pain im not scared like you

  • @kingdaleclarke what are you trying to prove? keep going beyond the pain and kill yourself. itll be funny

  • @mojomatt176 your a joke son.

  • @kingdaleclarke lmao dont "son" me you faggot bitch

  • You got to respect how hard they are working. Love it!

  • What i wouldn't give to have that 100 hours of footage they shot for the rest of Pumping Iron

  • how much does roids have progress since then..

  • those are 100 pound plates. They're way too thick to be 45 pounds. and it is very possible for world class bodybuilders to have been squatting 645 lbs for reps

  • @MrArdinovaj they're thick, but notice how they hollow out on the inside.

  • @MawBTS good point, but the 100s I use are the exact same too. and besides, 315 is just TOO easy for them. My legs are nowhere near as defined or huge as theirs and I've done 315 for that many reps before. I'm sure a lot of people commenting here have done so as well.

  • @roidersRhomos what do roids have anything to do with what i just said lol?

  • I always prefered using rusty bars to lift, mainly for

    Squats, BP and curls.

  • Sometimes I get a sort of head rush during squats. I'll zone out and get this crazy motivation and squat for like 28 reps until my legs just completely give out.

  • Today I saw a guy at the gym with skinny legs loading 2, 45 pound plates on each side and trying to squat with the most terrible form and was barely even moving. I wish I could show him this clip.

  • damn this is some motivating shit right here

  • Looks like he did a few lines of coke before that set

  • 1:24 XD!

  • NOW THATS SOME SERIOUS LEG TRAINING WHEN U FALL AFTER A GOOD HARD SET!!!!!!!!!

  • The way he says 'yeah' @ 1.22 proves he is just sharing the pain with him and he enjoys that, so awesome..

  • I can watch this vid over and over without getting bored; this is inspires me so much.. Training hard = enjoying..

  • the most beautiful and inspirational training I´ve ever seen... I became an Ed Corney fan after seing this!

  • Were those 45 lb. plates or 100's. They looked a little wide for 45's.

  • By the 8th rep he's on pure mustache power

  • They must've done a lot of sets, because I know Arnold could do squats with over 500 lbs for reps in his prime

  • You can also notice that Arnold, due to his height and long legs is leaning forward quite a bit and involving his lower back more. For perfect squats take a look at Tom Platz. Arnold's legs were not his best asset.

  • This man is amazing. He bounced back from two strokes and he still hits the gym at the age of 77.

  • @matthewrobertsuter Two strokes all stem from steroid abuse not only grows the muscles from the outside but also the inside , most die oversize heart , look into kid and stop looking up to fake body builders , his luck was timing thats all !

  • @onetrashdancer I know, that's why I stay natural. But I appreciate the bodybuilders of pumping iron more than the freaks of today, now they really are roiders!

  • @matthewrobertsuter No different than Arnold probably smarter with the understanding of chemicals today , so wise up and stop looking up to fake muscles that came from a test tube

  • @onetrashdancer

Fake muscles? You're so fucking stupid. My brain hurts just from reading your ignorant comments.

  • @PokemonRawksBrah Your brain hurts by just reading!

  • @matthewrobertsuter And your not Gay LMFAO

  • @matthewrobertsuter if they had the technology we have today every one of them would look like they do now!

  • Talk about inspirational. Makes me feel guilty if I don't workout today. Corney's awesome.

  • Sounds like all you guys are like squating Guru's. My goal is to get faster. Alot faster.I have tooth pick legs right now. So when Squating should I go for reps or try to put on as much wieght as possible. I want my legs bigger because there are no sprinters that run under an 11.3 that have my size of legs. Im already pretty fast so maybe starting to squat would get me the boost.

  • @rocks232 it can be both. most 'alpha male' meatheads tend to up the weight size rather than the rep size. I tend to perform my leg routine (and indeed my bench/flies routines) in what I call 'supersets', which is 20 reps instead of the usual 10 reps. It may take a while to figure your limits at first, but I feel the results show through a lot more for me personally. 6 weeks=140-150% of your initial limit, if you put the effort in. Hope this helps you in some way.

  • @ttlrich i suppose it depends on what your goal is 10 reps is for mass 20 i guess its to burn out

  • Arnold also used a close stance bodybuilding squat that makes the quads work harder. The wider stance allows you to go heavier aka powerlifers, people should keep that in mind.

  • He still works out. It's crazy. I see him every once in a while at golds

  • i love watching people squat with textbook form.

  • I met and talked with Eddy totday at the mr fresno and wow what a treat to see him talk with him and shake this mans big hands, cool stories and tips awsome time, thanks Eddy youre supper cool!!!!

  • Such a tradjedy that he's in a wheelchair now. Not fair god, not fair.

  • Who ?

    Ed corney ? Arnold ?

    hahaha you comedy.

Ed corney is muscular with 70+ years

  • he is not anymore

  • They should have at least one Gym like this, in every city! Old School Hardcore!

  • if you apply that level of intensity and determination to anything in life, you are always on the right road to success

  • eds pretty crazy. i see him every day at golds gym modesto. i used to not know who he was and didnt know why he was so popular at our gym then i looked on the wall and saw his picture. it was the only black and white one haha so i was like oh okay makes sense haha.

  • Inspirational!

  • real work! can u see that mother fucker called steroidsr4losers?nobody know that shit?i want to kill him.

  • literally, he is the worst fucking plague that has ever been. I'll take locusts, I'll take fire from the sky, I'll take em all, but this cock sucker is intolerable and needs to be hung. HUNG! lol

  • interested to know how many sets they did before the ones we saw coz that was so weak if they hadnt done 8 sets already

  • Most inspirational scene of the entire Pumping Iron video.

  • i rekon each plate there is 20kg each. i lift for the buzz, i enjoy doing squats, leg press , bench press shoulder press, all these lifts get me buzzin when im lifitng a weigth thats heavy for me.

  • wht where they squating in kg and how much was 1 of them plates ? 20kg?

  • bck in the 70s the plates were all different especially the bars also. like a regular 45 plate today could be like a 50 or 52 lb plate.

  • Motivation no. 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My favorite part of Pumping Iron! 100% effort

  • This is a refreshing video. The IFBB pros of today give body builders a bad name because they rarely ever go to or past absolute failure.

  • What the Hell are you talking about????

the IFBB pros today are evolving and yes they push past Failure Hardcore I can Name alot that do it to extreme meaning they throw up after that set and still continue to get thru there workout.

  • there are a few like milos sarcev and david henry, but most don't do things like bottom position work, multi exercise sets and drop sets that allow one to safely push to extreme limits. they just do a bunch of straight sets of 8-12 reps.

  • Then why are the Olympians way way way BIGGER than these guys hahaha

Plus back in the day Ed and Arny used Doses of Roids everytime theyd get answer that huh??....

  • Today there is a lot more information on proper nutrition. Especially, pre, during, and post workout nutrition, which is the most essential for optimizing muscle gains. Also, steroids are taken in much larger doses today and are stacked with HGH and insulin. Some bodybuilders in the 60s and 70s wouldn't even use drugs in the off season; they would just start using about 12 weeks out from a contest and grow into a show. Most of the pros today wouldn't last a week in the old Golds Gym Venice.

  • always an inspiration b4 squatting

  • "Let's get serious". :)

  • real training!

  • Comment removed

  • looks like a damn squat to me... i dont know what kind of squats u mean..no its not a FULL squat...but a squat actually does the muscle NO good as far as development once the upper leg has reached parrallel to the floor...its pure physics and anatomy of the muscle..

  • Haha Ed's wrecked. Oh, and that's 315 everyone. Those are those old-timed thick 45 pound plates, not a hundred pound plates. Still strong to be squatting that weight for those many reps.

  • 315 for some TRUE squats baby... you dont see ne one that squats like that any more... nowadays someone bends their knees a little, goes half the way down and comes up and tells everyone he can "squat" 500 pounds, knowing if he went down all the way he would crumble

  • idk about the black haired guy

but arnold wasnt even close to a real squat

what he did was some close leg 1/4 squat stupid thing

  • That black haired guy is Ed Corney...

a 1/4 squat stupid thing.......Look at these guys, bud. Look how theyre built..How are YOU built?...If these squats werent "real", they wouldnt have the legs they do now would they?

  • maybe your response would be credible....if you were talking about guys that were trying to be powerlifters...these are BODYBUILDERS - these guys do whatever they have to do to grow their legs - end of story. Period. Weight is not primary importance to these guys. They have been training for a long time, they know what works for them and their genetics. Youre making yourself sound like a fool

  • #1 - There is really nothing lacking the musculature of either of these bodybuilders' legs

#2 - You shouldnt assume that this is only kind of squat each of them practice.

#3 - keeping #2 in mind, it is very likely this footage is from the end of the workout - when they lack the strength to squat deep, but still have enough left to bomb their quads.

#4 - It is also possible that Arnold is having trouble with his knees.

  • I think most people care what their legs look like since they are bodybuilders and nothing else.

  • I guess I'm different then :/ I care more about how my legs perform. -_-

  • You guess you are different? The video is of two of the worlds most famous BODYBUILDERS of all time.

  • different in the respect to why I would lift weights. they lift for looks, I lift for being a better athlete.

  • Ca c'est un bel exemple d'entraînement. Arnold pousse Ed Corney jusqu'au bout de sa série:

    11 reps à 140kg.

  • Comment removed

  • how heavy are those plates? .. no way they are less than 50lbs

  • thats intensity.

  • Try the 20 rep squat, great good pain! Hard training.

  • i nearly threw up after lol

  • those are thick plates

  • That's outright hard work. Probably few people will ever work themselves to this point; and for those who have, know how truly awful those last few reps feel.

  • true that man woo!

  • One-hundred-pound plates? Get serious, people. These two would get buried under 600 pounds. I respect Arnold as a successful bodybuilding competitor, but not as a squatter. Hell, his reps here with 315 are WAY high. Hit the basement or don't call it a repetition.

It's like all the magazines spouting off about how this pro squats 600 for reps, and this pro squats three repetitions with 675 ... Horseshit. Does anyone know what a real squat is anymore?

    Platz squatted to depth.

  • thats rich

  • yup, tom was the man when it came to squatting

  • actually those plates look like its 100 lb plates.

  • weiders.

  • Maaaaaaan

y' all dont do any hams exercises

    "leg curl"

    and thats it

    HAHAHAHAHAH

    What a bunch of fags.

  • what most people dont realize is that bar is heavier than a regular 45 lb bar. Look at the length of the bar, it's much longer than most. It looks about like the same length as Branch Warren squats with in his DVD. I'd guess the bar weighs around 70 or 75.

  • is it just 3 plates ?

  • yeah but the bars bending, and its quite high reps, also they probably did a ton of stuff leading up to that point

    great old school video!

  • its probably last set of their workout

  • that's about 270lbs+the bar for full sets of like 10 reps

  • 3-35 pound plates per side; the bar weighs 45 lbs. Total, therefore, is 315 lbs. But, the weight here does not matter. It's the FORM that matters...these guys go low...to parallel and slightly beyond..THAT is what matters.

  • @hotprofdude u mean 3-45 pound plates per side

  • @hotprofdude actually that only equals up to 255.

  • @hotprofdude actually its 45 pound plates = 315....sorry i had to be that guy.

  • @hotprofdude strong math skills phaggot

  • @hotprofdude 3-35lb plates on each side don't equal 315...they are 45 lb plates buddy

  • @hotprofdude You must be a math whiz, How doe 6x35+45= 315 you must be real dumb.

  • @vibeztOoxtasy it is 315 its only 6 45's plus the bar

  • @nfsking69 hot prof dude says 6x35+45 = 315 tho which is not correct

  • @adoboFosho ...you're actually right...6 X 35 plus the 45 lb. bar equals 255...but again: it's not thr weight that matters when it comes to squats...it's form...and, by the way, reviewing this film 2 years later, I contend that they are lifting 6-45 pound plates, which DOES equal 315.

  • @hotprofdude Actually those could be 100 pound plates... could be

  • @VillalobosC9 ...no way...anybody who's squatted long enough can tell that those are 45 lb. pltes, MAX......ain't no way a 235-lb. Arnold squatted 600 plus lbs. that many times, that low. I don;t care how 'roided up he was...

  • @hotprofdude Oh i was just saying cuz at my highschool the record for squats was like 540 but only for one rep... idk lol

  • @hotprofdude fail

  • i think the best way to explain a leg routine is to show the leg routine. actually any routine. how hard you work reflects how willing you are to show off your muscles.

  • Thats how you should squat, I go to the gym and I squat every week. I see alot guys, just working their upper bodies and neglecting their legs. Truth - most guys are scared to squat. By squating you improve your upper body and lower back, and if you breath correctly you can even expand your rib gage (depending on what age your are) this makes you look wider. But in most cases, you do see a difference. - My advice: SHUT UP AND SQUAT! lol!

  • yeah but in this video you can't see depth, a quarter squat is not a squat. It has to be a full squat, ass touching calves.

  • This is true. But at the same time I agree with Yates in that in depends on your structure.Personally I found leg press and hack squats work better for me if I do them after extensions first.Squats work better if you do them last when your legs are pre fatigued. If you do them first your lower back has a tendency to fail first before the legs and it ends up being an overall body exercise instead of just a leg one where you really want to feel it.Higher reps work better for the legs too.

  • What you say is true also, in my leg routine I combine leg press with squat and also at then end I sometimes do leg extensions. I like to do higher reps with my legs, I feel I get a better pump than heavy weights and low reps. You know your stuff. Good man.

  • Yeah the legs respond better to higher reps for sure and it's definetly better to do squats last. You have to use a slightly lighter weight to get 12 reps a set but your legs respond better. The weights eventually go up.I did legs this morning actually and did what I feel works best, leg extensions first(to pre exhaust)then leg press and then hack squats.I alternate the hack sqauts with regular squats each week to get strong on both exercises. Then finish with leg curls.

  • My leg routine:

    1. warm up 5 mins running machine.

    2. 4 sets squats

    3. 4 sets leg press

    4. 4 sets leg curl

    5. 3 sets standing calf raise & 3 sets seated.

Reps are in the range of 10-12 or more. At the end I do cardio 20 mins. I am slim so I dont really want to do to much cardio.

  • You don't do extensions? I also start with 5 minutes warm up(but on the sationary bike)...I train calves in my upper body workouts.I found after quads Im pretty much wiped out so it was pointless trying to do another bodypart after.

  • My leg routine(at current)

    1. 5 min stationary bike

    2. leg extension(2 warm up,then 1 set to failure)

    3. Leg press(1 warm up,then 1 set to failure)

    4. Hack squats or squats, no warm up,just 1 set to failure.

    5. Leg curls(1 warm up,1 set to failure)then stiff legged deadlifts, 1 warm up,1 set to failure. All sets,12 reps no lower.

  • My routine:

1 set of 20 reps squats with a weight I can just about do 10 reps with. Breathing Squats. Best mass and strength routine known to man. This is what they're pretty much doing here; heavy high rep squats. The single best thing anyone can do in weightlifting

  • The one thing you will have to have when you increase the reps on your leg exercises is strong cardio. If your cardio is weak and your used to doing only 6 reps a set on squats and leg press when you increase to 12 reps a set you'll be sucking gas big time if you don't work on improving your cardio too.

  • Gotta love the armchair bodybuilders on youtube who, of course, have the credentials to judge some of the best competitors ever.

  • I've worked out with both of them before, they are ok at squatting.

  • oh i see..... keep dreaming...

  • i love when dumb bitches think im being serious.

  • I love how Arnold and Ed are wrecked between sets. That's how true squatting should leave you feeling.

Arnold was also one of the taller bodybuilders around, making full squats that much harder.

  • The first time I saw this on "Pumping Iron"..it was a major factor in me taking squats more seriously. I have a new found love and appreciation for the squat.

  • Upon closer inspection, I think the reason Arnie isn't squatting quite as deep is because his legs are closer together. It's hard squatting deep with your legs that close, let alone with THAT much weight. In comparison, we can see that Eddie has a wider stance, thus enabling a deeper squat.

Anyways, that's my take on it.

  • looks like the governor was doing more of a good morning than a squat.

  • "oh god damn"

    "..yeaaa"

    haha

  • This movie was made late into Arnolds Career. Who ever says that Arnold was not capable of squating over 500lbs for a 1RM is an idiot! I have pictures of him doing reps with 465lbs and highblock under his ankles. He even says in his Encyclopedia that at one time during his career just to add inch on his quads he would pyramid up to 500lbs on squat for reps!

  • "LETS GET SERIOUS"

  • Arnold: "One more eddie,, and flex when you come up.."

    Ed: "GOD DAMN!!!"

    Arnold: "Yeah."

    hahahah

  • Keep doing quarter squat with 3 plates. Maybe you to will be mister O someday.

  • There 45 pound plates, not 100. I dont see why people argue that there 100 pounds.

    645 X 10 would be unreal.

  • They are obviously 45's. Have you ever done a set of breathing squats? Arnold used to brag about how Franco could do them with 300 or 400 pounds. And Arnold was primarily a pumper (meaning lighter weights and more reps) not a "power and bulk lifter" like Franco. Regardless props to them both for going to the wall. That's how much they are SUPPOSED to take out of you.

  • not true arnold did powerlifting with franco in the beginning of his career

    read his encyclopedia

  • Those are the old wide-flange 45s. Take a look at any old York plates - if they were 100s, the flange would be thicker (thickness, not width) and the body of the plate would be thicker. It is pretty clear that the main part of the plate is thin, with a wide flange.

  • they arent lifting over 600 pounds. dont be dumb.

  • yes they are you stupid shit

  • your're a dumb fuck. Arnold was not capable of squatting 600 lbs.

  • no im sure he could do 600 1rm but he wasnt doing it there. cloud ur a tool

  • arnold could never squat over 600lbs. those are 45s not 100s. 100s are solid plates without the hollowed out part that you see in the 45s. watch when ed is squatting and you'll see the hollowed out plates. like i said, 100s aren't hollowed out.

  • GAWTDAMN!

  • In all fairness, these WERE the days of high volume workouts, so this could be their 8th set of squats, after doing 8 sets of leg presses and 8 sets of leg extensions and 8 sets of hack squats, etc. Brutal 2 hour workouts, sometimes twice a day.

  • 315?? LOL, let's get serious for sure.

  • Com'on, lets get serious! lol As tho Ed was bulsh@tin around. Priceless!

  • ARnold with some 315 quarter squats rofl.

at least ed was doing proper squats. :D

  • so i guess close stance quarter squats wont get you 7 mr. olympia titles then huh?
