  • So...like BONANZA, T.H.E. CAT was produced by NBC at Paramount (just before it and Desilu Studios were acquired and combined by Gulf & Western). And a real surprise that Lalo Schifrin did the music (although it makes sense here, as he's Brazilian). I only recently realized that he also composed the original first-season theme for STARSKY AND HUTCH.

  • For some odd reason, young Robert Loggia reminds my of Andy Lau.

  • seems like in the sixties you had to be extravagant, antisocial or really tough to keep up the non-smoking lifestyle

  • Winston tastes bad

Like the last one I had

    No filter

    No flavor

Just a used piece of toilet paper

    -Cedar Grove (Maryland) Elementary, mid-1960s

  • Thank you dentel tv1 i remember this show, to bad we can not see this kind of shows anymore, hope you have more of them.

  • --when i was 11 yrs old in '66

--this was the coolest show of all

    --we would play THE Cat

--when we weren't doing batman or the man from uncle

--dress in black and sneak around hopping on things etc

--always good guys against bad guys of course

    --and smoke Winstons

    --HACK HACK

  • @aldkdfdj know what you mean!!!!!

  • The best last line ever:

"T. Hewitt Edward Cat ... and what does the T stand for?"

"Tom," he says, pulling her in for a kiss. Leaving us to snort at the joke.

  • First time I have ever seen this show. I'm suprised it didn't have a longer run. Like many TV shows from the time, there is nothing on today that even comes close to holding a candle to it.

  • Actually, that's Norma Bengell herself singing. Her timbre is very similar to Astrud's.

She recorded a duet with Dick Farney, a great Brazilian crooner and master pianist.

You'll find this recording on Youtube.

  • The actress playing Maria, the club singer is Norma Bengell, who like Astrud Gilberto, is Brazilian. It sure sounds like Astrud on the soundtrack. The song she's performing is "Água de Beber" a composition by Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, the men who also brought you "The Girl from Ipanema".

  • @lou914 I think she was singing "Girl from Ipanema" earlier in the episode...?

  • @animatrix1490 You're absolutely correct - right after the first commercial break - during the off-beat montage that introduces us to the "Casa del Gato". And it's Norma herself singing the classic song.

  • As an Astrud fan, it definitely sounds like her to me. They probably dubbed it.

  • The actress is not Astrud Gilberto, but it sounds like her singing "The Girl From Ipanema." Any idea who is singing, and what the song is?

  • so grateful indeed. As so many others I'll always remember this show and T Hewitt Edward Cat. I always thought it was 'Hewart'. Now I stand corrected and grateful for your 3 posts. So cool if there were a DVD of all the shows. John-Hans Melcher

  • Great show! Do you have any more of T.H.E. Cat, please?:)

  • 8:55- "Now stay tuned as 'NBC Week' continues with the season premiere of 'LAREDO', as our trio of Texas Rangers face legendary gold thief Midas Mantee- next, in color. And later tonight, be sure to catch 'THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON', in color....on NBC."

  • When I changed to Winston, I chose cancer, and I am probably dead by now....

  • I've wanted to see this show for so long! Thanks for uploading!:)

  • This show was the essence and definition of cool.

I have an extended play sound/musical score for it now. Six written episodes, so far...have written a movie to get it started....we are using New Orleans and Vancouver, BC for sets.

Just need a little more time...a bit more money for the better cameras...and a few more actors for bit parts, a female lead and LOOK OUT TOMMY CRUISE!! Please, wish me luck...Oh it WILL be web-based so everyone in the cast will be well showcased... nuff said

  • Thanks for posting this episode! I had never seen this show before and thoroughly enjoyed it. A Sorrell Book tour de force--who would think that evil troll would later play the loveable rogue Boss Hogg? What a great actor, as were Loggia and Armstrong. The bossa nova music was a bonus. Great fun and thank you again! -- Gary P.

  • @ryecroft57 Sorrel played some interesting nasty from this time, as Sandy Dennis' principal (and I mean head of a high school) nemesis in UP THE DOWN STAIRCASE, and a modern-day mafioso in THE BORGIA STICK--one memorable scene where he challenges the main character, played by Don Murray (alongside them was a "family" accountant, portrayed by Conrad Bain...later of MAUDE and DIFF'RENT STROKES)

  • This was a cool show I remember watching as a teenager. The acting was well done & the theme music outstanding. T.H.E. Cat's background as a circus aerialist & former jewel thief was different from the usual hero. Plus, making him a bodyguard instead of the usual cliche of private eye made this show unique.
