wow...the BOSS seemed to be the easiest segment of this stage. this game is a absolute nightmare. i used to get pissed when Raiden DX didn't go my way. then I bought this gem on XBLA. wow...never knew how scary these games could be lol.

@IceVallejo It seems you are mistaken about the size of the ship.

Only the few pixels of the cockpit are actually vulnerable. If you could look closely, you would see that the central line of the cockpit doesn't touch the laser > the ship is not "hit".

That said, it's probably the craziest move in the video. Doing that after finally getting a 237 combo is the sign that he was completely mad when he was recording it. (No offence Chris, but seriously...)

I'm beginning to understand how amazing this game is. When I first bought it about 6 years ago (and soon got rid of it), I was super frustrated with the difficulty and had no idea how to chain. Now I can see that at its best, it's about crafting a performance. After a ton of practice, then you can perform a playthrough that's actually entertaining to watch, and unique to whatever chaining strategy you use!

To answer your question, the hitbox of the ship is very small, it's only a few pixels in size. If the cockpit is between the edge of the laser and the wall, you're safe.

The boss isn't easy. It's hard as hell. If you don't do the switch in the middle of the beam (which is nigh impossible), he starts rotating the other way and bouncing around *and* the hatches start closing in on you.

It's only easy if you do it really fast; like this.

I'm writing a 'survival strategies' FAQ for the game; an easy way to do this boss is launch your uber laser as black, then switch to black and try to deal some damage regularly. When you die, don't bother being normal - just dash right to the middle and do direct damage....if done right you can beat the boss losing only 1 life; if done poorly, losing 2.

if your talking about when the core fires the giant laser, then from what I can tell that's not what's happening. the hit box to get struck by a fatal shot is much smaller then to absorb energy, so there's a very small spot in between the wall and the laser that he can fit his ship for just long enough time to switch polarity and fire his lasers before crashing into the wall or getting too close to the laser

that's my theory anyway

nah this is normal mode, because on hard mode regardless of what polarity your on, every enemy ship will fire back on death, where on normal, ships of the same polarity will fire back on death

That damn satellite gets me every time. Between switching colors for the swirls, dodging bullets, and getting pounded by shrapnel of same-color enemies I kill right after changing colors to mitigate the first two things, it makes my brain spasm.
