Yes, those of us who were teenagers during the peak of this piece had the opportunity to dance- of course with beautiful age mates at high school. I am sorry to learn that it was about death!
Ndona had been wonderful. I compare the emotion and excitement to one Nigerian recording about Spud Nathan who died riding a commercial transport to join his band group after the civil war in Nigeria.
Also, I can recall how some of the Nigeria Soldiers stationed in my vilage Okon_Aku in Ohafia, Nigeria used to abandon their posts and danced and shouted "Na waitin Ndona dey cry?". Where is Vercky Veve, if you are still alive, please schedule a musical tour in the U.S.
This reminds me of my dad who used to sing it word for word, yet he knew very little Lingala or French. My goodness, listen to those voices and the instruments! I doubt if we shall ever this type of music ever again as our crop of music today are in too much a hurry to make money and hence they are giving us raw music. Well, this is such a great piece.
@jwfslmr This is in the same category as Testament ya Boule, Lutumba's tribute to his granny who reared him. Hauntingly painful, every note is honest, and as such, eternal. But perhaps ahead of their time, the guys are wailing about the genocide yet to happen in the Congo in the 90s! Like when wolves wail, and folks know the season is gonna change for ill and worse! 6:04-
@Jarawilla ar u sure of wht u said abt Testament ya Bowule? Lutumba's tribute to HIS GRANNY? Lutumba's granny might hav died bt I think Testament wasnt her tribute. It's a tribute to Bowule-a friend of Lutumba's who'd died. It's a eulogy. in my language back in Kenya we call it neno. Actually Lutumba is impersonating Bowule's sister 2 compose th song. I may b wrong, anyway.
So many people comment on the music of the 1970s and early 80s in Zaire/Congo. Somewhere there are all our dreams, our lost ones, the nations we could have been, the wars we could have prevented, the pride we could have lived up to. Remembrance can inform the present. For all those that greave for those times when we felt that our future was in our hands, and we held close a beautiful and tender African life, who would have that a small screen and thousands of individual memories could heal.
If you to know the story behind this song then u would appreciate it more. The Actual recording was made as Verckys was crying. Becoz of his late Mother
@Molegend101 Thank you very much, sir. Knowing this helps me appreciate the song even more. Listening to it always brought tears to my eyes. I always wondered how someone could shed such genuine tears during the making of a song, and this bit of information from you makes it all clear! If I lost my dear and most beloved mother, i would shed endless tears too!....thanks so much!
Whenever i listen to Ndona it reminds of the golden times of the seventies. Very nice I am glad I am sharing it with so many people. I will never have enough of these oldie tunes long live to the people who kept them safe.
Dear Larryboy 1995, by posting this number you've brought my sweet and unrefined memories of yore back to me. Can you find "Mama na Fuki by the same band? .
Thanks a million for this number - now if we can get someone to tell us what Veve is singing about Ndona - but I'm pretty sure I know what it is - a Love Song!
Coudl you please give me the lyrics and their line by line translation of this great song? I used to play in a school band in the mid-70's and this one was our signature song although we hardly knew what the words were or what they meant!
Obanduli ngai motema eeeeeeh, this is the music !!! Bravo L'orchestre Veve and Kiamangwana Wanzolambongo Mateta Verckys. This music can really inject nostalgia in one's heart - I love it soooo much. Larryboy1995, may you please get us Lukani? I (indeed, we) shall be very grateful.
hey boy, there is asong i heard over th radio just once, I do not know the artist or the title. but for the fact that I crammed part of the chorus 7years ago. pliz try and help me out even if you do not have it, may I get its details please if you dont mind. here the chorus,-- NAKOLELA NA MISO YA ALLAH ALLAH EH, nZAMBE YA PUMBU ABAKISELA YO MAMAN, NAKOMI MUSULMAN PO NA YO CHERRIE, BIMA BAMONA YO MWASI NGAI NAKUMISAKA..
Sorry, Ndeda, been going over these words, trying to evoke a memory, but alas, I cant recall ever hearing anything with these words. Even tried to search music download places and Imeem in vain....good luck, though!

@ndedas that song is by ntimbo nguashi of festival du zaire. this was a band that did not exist in real life but only traveled to Nairobi to record then disband immediately afterwards. I suspect Mopero "moonlighted over there listening to some of their songs . The name of the song is MAMI..
@jm04151975 , I speak lingla fairly well. I heard this song over the radio Once over lunch Hour in the year 2001.,.The studio man never said the artist or the song title. I t was the first year that I was taking lingala studies so I could grab a few lines. I only managed to cram the chorus part of it all along through the years till you told me about it. I have it now. and am greatfull to you
