@reachingthenirvana the 1 or 0 is actually the speaker position, 1 is in, 0 is out. 8 bit music consists of 256 possible speaker positions. i can play a normal acoustic song as an 8bit file, it's the bitrate that matters, i cant really tell the differences between 8bit and 16 bit if the bitrate is high
Oscillator near 35kHz is made using two gates of a 40106, is fed into a 4040 chip or 12-bit counter (produces suboctaves). 8 of 12 octaves (lower ones) are connected to "inputs" of a 1 of 8 multiplexer (4051). The 3 control pins on the 4051 are hooked up to a 2nd 4040 that is clocked by the 1st 4040. The clock input to the 2nd 4040 and the 3 controls of the 4051 are "patchable" as demonstrated. Speaker is driven by an LM386 connected to the output of the 4051.

@SergeantFawful But it's pretty expensive. And I don't want a coat. I want a piano instead.

Not one bit, more like 8 or 16 bit
smartuy1 8 months ago
@smartuy1 Oh really? What makes you think that? Do you even know what a bit is?
Geisttanzer 7 months ago
How can it be just 1 bit? 1 bit means that there is two possible sounds: sound and no sound. How can you get different pitches?
reachingthenirvana 9 months ago
@reachingthenirvana I think it's 1 bit because he only has a single tone which he changes through analog methods? I don't really know though.

@reachingthenirvana Well it's the same sound, just different power applied increasing or lowering the sound.

Do you just have the speaker hooked up to each divider? Because it sounds like its beeping in sequence.

What you need now is a pseudo-random generator for a simple drum machine
