  • The poppies are crap. Respect.

  • @SubconsciousGatherer u fucking heathen

  • NIN toured with these guys back in the day........ PWEI had so much to offer, and were so ahead of their time.

  • big FLUX influence here

  • I loved listening to this in the indie clubs of the early 90's awesome.

  • just heard this on bbc6, thought it was 2011 release

  • Very old school sampling not sure how

  • I'm curious there seems to be a lot of sampling in this, what did they use?

  • @notavailable3001 Probably one of the Akai rackmounts - S900, S1000, they were all the rage at the time in the UK.

  • @AshleyMarkPomeroy Dont think it was an MPC? Atari sequencing maybe?

  • Give Me Big Mac Fries Too Go,Give me Big Mac and Fries too Go smiffy01 Every one a winner

  • @Karmakat59 it's not a blatant rip off it's a sample

  • @Karmakat59 You left out the melody from Funky Town that's also in this song

  • WASN'T THIS 1984

  • I'M SURE THEY PUT HUMAN FLESH IN THOSE BURGERS

  • I SMOKE EMBASSY

  • Because the only thing you get in time of a nuclear holocaust is a big mac & fries to go before it's all over.....

  • The Poppies are crap!

  • i liked them from beaver patrol they sort of pre dated a lot of sample heavy bands this the day is the hour was xlent richard went to bently rhythm ace? clint did soundtracks not sure bout the others? i thought jesus jones and emf were a bit pony tho 2 b honest. liked the fact they do any tv shows they did some obscure kids show once not exactly boy band material.ho ho

  • I remember (I think it's all a bit blurry) seeing them, The Wonderstuff and Neds Atomic Dustbin within a few months of each other in Australia many moons ago. Great Stuff.

  • the lead singer of this band is my brothers uncle :)

  • Give me a big mac please and oh yeah some fries to go

  • I just read your response to me from last year...you don't recall whom being in the novel?

I simply said that PWEI should have been in the "Watchmen" soundtrack

  • How did they definatley listen to B.A.D? lol. Twat.

  • The Osmonds' Crazy Horses sample - what's the synth from again?

  • @klc2002 (Won't you take me to) Funky Town?

  • Love that Iggy Pop "I Wanna Be Your Dog" riff. :)

  • big mac fries 2 goooo !!! rock on !!!!!

  • Omfg this fucking video is making me laugh so hard wtf hahahaha

  • Hold back the Doom / Call Dr Doom - you know it makes sense!!!!!!!!! It's THE ONLY CHOICE!

  • A great video to a great song - love it!

  • OOF! watch me. we love you all

  • lol, the guitar riff is Now I Want To Be Your Dog by The Stooges.

  • @pashedmotatos Love both songs but never realized the Stooges sample.

  • These definitely used to listen to B.A.D

  • one tune bitches

  • rice to go?

  • @doll367 LOL!!! That would also be funny!! But it's actually Big Mac fries to go :)

  • Rip off video. This is nowhere near the original & i'm gutted that me watching this has counted towards this 'frauds' money :(

  • DEFCON 5 is best for our world !. :-)

But DEFCON 1 PWEI F CKEN ROCKS !!!.

  • absoutely the dogs bollocks

  • Chorus reminds me of the Stooges - I wanna be your dog.

  • @asskickerfoo I've allways thought it sounds like it too and i was just about to comment on it too =) ya beat me to it

  • @IDidItSidsWay It is the actual sample from "I wanna be your dog" :-) Great album too. Weird to think the singer now composes for film like Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain and Pi.

  • @andinoble hey thanx for the info =) but im sorry to say i dont kno any of those movies! when did they come out?

  • @IDidItSidsWay The films are highly recommended, Pi was 1999, Requiem for a Dream was 2000 and The Fountain 2005 or 6. I´m certain you´ll recognise the tune from Requiem for a Dream from, erm, everywhere :-) Look for "Lux Æterna: "the eternal light"" on youtube or Wikipedia.Requiem for a Dream has been voted in the top 5 films 2000-2010.Stunning film.

  • @andinoble thanx dude, i looked up the song and i dont recognize it but its really beautiful. those movies came out a tad bit before i was old enough to care about the media. but yeah, i'll make sure i'll check out those movies and once again thank you =)

  • @asskickerfoo well yeah thats because the sampled the riff from i wanna be your dog :-)

  • The lyrics about Def Con One and Bic Macs are nothing to do with McDonalds advertising during the 80s. They're quotes from the comic "The Watchman", as are the rest of the lines in the chorus, and some of the lyrics during the verses. It's also mentioned in "Can U Dig It?"

  • @7rollface I'm almost 100% certain there are no references to Big Macs in Watchmen.

  • Gawd...I played the shit out this album. Mostly because it was one of the first CD's I ever bought.

  • I saw them (showing my age) in the 1990s. Odd to think singer Clint Mansel went on to write the music to Pi, Requiem for a Dream, Moon, Black Swan etc. Somehow makes total sense...

  • SO FUCKING AHEAD OF THEIR TIME.

  • Couldn't agree with you more my friend! Rockin' sound

  • Love this..thanks so much for the post...never saw this back in the day as a kid...love it!

  • Love this song ;) good old Industrial Rock :D

  • Sampling Funkytown = awesome

  • The song was nothing to do with drugs, in the mid 80's the selling point of Mcdonalds was that you could get your food and be out of the door in Def Con One time, suggesting that there at a military state of readiness.....you can pick this together all you like but your wasting your time, it isnt a theory, its what the song is about! ACE SONG.

  • @02476 don't you think that this song was not only a cynical pisstake of McDonalds use of military imagery then and that it also certainly implied having the munchies?

This is the late 80s - the cold war was not a distant memory but very much a threat. To use Def Con One as a selling point for your fast food seems inappropriate and it makes sense that PWEI would have a go at that.

But that's what I love about British bands - they can do stuff that is both hilarious fun and viciously critical.

  • Blaises nightclub in Middlebrough, 1990. Crap beer, cool girls in Docks and cardies. Bliss.

  • @transonicbuoy1 That was the one thing I didn't like from that ere - girls in docs and cardies......still fantastic times though!

  • The whole album this was spawned from ROCKS, and sounded ahead of it's time when it came out.

  • Quality PUSB

  • wot a fucking tune

Iconic Band’s Principal Songwriter and Co-Frontman Revives PWEI

  • Meus 19 anos... fiz rolo nesse vinil a uns 20 anos atrás e por sorte consegui um outro zeradinho a pouco tempo. Ouvir esse disco em vinil faz toda diferença.

  • GIVE ME BIG MAC FRIES TO GO!

  • OMG I LOVED this band!! Think they kinda lost it after 'Cure for Sanity' tho...

  • I doubt many lasses know who the Poppies are. They we're a little before my time but I still remember being 15 year old sitting in the back of a clapped out Ford Escort cruising around the country roads with my friends every night. We had a brown McDonald's tray on the back shelf covered in rizla packets and snapped tabs and the Poppies was always blasting from the Ford tape player. We spent a full summer doing that.

Can't believe 'Harry Dean Stanton' isn't on here but it will be in 5min.

  • great fucking song

  • Ya , it's drug talk for give me a big bowl now and the shards to go.

  • I was very disappointed that the producers of the movie "Watchmen" did not use the Poppies on the soundtrack at all...

  • @ogobby i don't recall them being mentioned in the novel, where @ ?

  • Manchester, The Banshee, The late 80's!! Heads Up!!! How sick is this!!!! Love it!!!

  • Is this a different mix? It sounds much meatier than the album version, all the better for it mind, brilliant

  • nice, the stooges are in there aswell

  • Literally sold more T-shirts than records! class! Sample it , Loop it, Fuck it and Eat it!

  • @sugarstrong Yeah, I had 8 shirts or so

  • lol I thought the title was "poop will eat itself"

    xD

  • davidvickery : Holy shit!! Memories of my youth!-- exactally m8 .. buzzin

  • Saw these guys live at the Marquee,London back in December 15th 1989 and they were awesome.

  • Time to show my age a bit... I remember my sister taking me to my first club when I was just 16... walked in and heard this mad 'non chart song' about big macs... Ohh how my life changed from that point on, it was straight down the shops the next day to buy this new single. If anyone remembers John and Mark DJing the Ritz on Whitworth St Manchester on a Monday night... You will understand. i bumped into John

  • The Ritz on Mondays, too much fun dude, I'm putting a playlist together for everything at that time. Suggestions are greatly appreciated

  • Suade

    Neds atomic dustbin

    Jesus Jones

    New Model Army

in fact just go to manchester on a monday night to the ritz it aint changed!!

  • Hey mate, John is still there on a Monday night now with Ed...and he's still doing Jillys DJing Fridays and most Saturdays.. He's a mate of mine!!! and he still plays this TUNE!!

  • @Tillytotuk was that in manchester m8 i was there every week

  • @hamzaakisaeed Me too... Yeah it was the manchester Ritz with DJ John... loved it with the little card to get in cheap and a free pint of pish..lol

  • Assista o Vídeo Abaixo, Muito Bom !

    watch?v=8SyfG0IOKNo

  • I love the video mix of this song.

  • I miss those days

  • Give me big mac and fries 2 go !!! PWEI rocks all !!!

  • bloody hell that takes me back great times. Thanks for posting : )

  • perhaps the only band that could incorporate lipps inc, the stooges and the twilight zone theme tune into one awesome song.

  • Cool ! Give me a big mac and fries 2 go !

  • More people heard the Stooges guitar sample than heard the song "I wanna be your dog". PWEI Ruled!

  • Thanks for posting. Friggin' awsome. Saw them twice in the 80's!

  • This is such a great song.

  • What a band.

  • Quite possibly my favourite Poppies tune, takes me right back to my school days! Always used to end their gigs with Def Con One, quality!

  • Watchmen. We love you all.

  • Reminds me of 'Fools Gold' down The After Dark on Easter Sunday. Pure heaven...

  • Ah the AD, still a good night on Fools Gold even after all these years, still smells of puke down there when you first walk in :o)

  • Like I say...pure heaven! ;-)

  • vote Dr Doom

  • you know it makes sense!

  • PWEI rocks!

  • DUH!

  • One of the most influential albums from one of the most influential bands of my teenage years!

  • exactly so. Single version, not TITDTITHTIT version

  • Great song....crap video.

Sounds like the video version is remixed too.

  • It's one of the older single versions pre-This is the Day... This has been reissued on the expanded Box Frenzy. I think this one directly samples I Wanna Be Your Dog whereas the later version has the guitars played live.

  • LMAO, this song brings back memories. How could you not love the line, "Give me Big-Mac priced to go. This song's album, and their Nothing Records follow up were brilliant

  • The line is actually "Give me Big Mac, Fries to go".

  • Makes me want to goto the Golden Arches and kick off.

  • Holy shit!! Memories of my youth!!

  • @davidvickery !!!! i know right!!!!

  • @davidvickery You and me both!
