  • K2 fascinates me much more than any other mountain, inc. Everest & Kangchenjunga which both look IMO ugly in direct comparison.

Perhaps it's the fact that it is the only 8,000 mountain to be as we pictured them in our childhood, perhaps it's the sheer reputation of it, perhaps it comes down to this & other YouTube vids I've thoroughly enjoyed.

  • Video is simply amazing. The audio melted all the wax in my ears in no time, and then some.

  • how many summits?

  • What is the first song? thanks :)

  • @rspk00 It is a local piece from the area.

  • i would have put these pictures in chronological order. its ridiculous to follow otherwise

  • I think I'll go climb K2 while I am waiting for my pizza to be delivered... see ya guys tomorrow!

    :D

Seriously, a great video and good music.

Seriously, a great video and good music.

  • K2...Pride of Pakistan...

  • @MRDURRUS you dumb americunt, its a flute, bansari. its beautiful, what would a fat americunt know.

  • @GREENBINGBONG LOL don't bother about them. They don't know what K2 is.

  • Pakistan has the world's most beautiful mountain ranges!

  • i've heard the north ridge on K2 is the most challenging route on any of the 8000ers. looks pretty brutal haha. I will hopefully be trekking to k2 base camp in summer of 2010!

  • K2 has never been climbed in winter. its a record. and u know that out of 110 world's highest mountains 47 are in Pakistan.....

  • K2 is a God Damn Beast average vertical is 45 Degrees Thats fucking steep, everest average verticle is 23. Anyone who actually climbs says everest is a "Joke" There are hundreds of more technically difficult climbs then everest. If you Don't Agree you obviously have never summited a peak Before. Dummy's

  • But there are some incredibly difficult routes on Everest, most notably the Southwest Face. It's true that on a good day most any goon can summit Everest, but only by the 'yak route'; South Col.

  • @12Seed12

so if you don't agree with your opinion, i have never summited a peak? you stupid dumb ass, you think mount everest isn't hard to climb? 8800 meter, not just any goon can climb mount everest, you have to be in a perfect shape to survive there, 1/3 of the oxigen people need. K2 is another thing, together with Nanga Parbat i think the most difficult mountains.

  • @x0riqin4l And Annapurna. Although the difficulty rate seems to have dropped over the past few years.

  • Thanks, that music just fucked my ears

  • k2= toughest on earth

  • good

  • Looks like they had a lot of nice weather. Cool pictures.

I'm currently reading "The Last Step", about the first successful American ascent of K2. Gets dragged down in minutia a bit, but it's still a great story and I'm digging it.

    And that's my K2 story.

  • just a amzing place to be. trip from skardu to K2 is mind blowing itself

  • i prefer the pakistan side...looks more challenging...i would never climb a moutain, but have the most respect to those who have and those who attpemted. x x x x

  • took the hike into base camp in 2005 via mazar ..illick this is china side guys.. much nicer than paki side... much more wilderness .. saw no others in 30 days camels are cool .. stop at the top woof...
  • aghil pass

    baby...

  • watevr u say most of the people choose to climb Everest thn K2 because only no. 1 counts nobody gives shit abt 2,3 or so on

  • ...

Do you know what percentage of climbers die on k2?

I believes its 50% or so. K2 is just intensely dangerous.

  • Actually anyone that knows anything about climbing respects K2. K2 is more dangerous plain and simple.

There is no no.1 or no.2, etc. All beautiful climbs and all deserve respect.

  • ok my lord u won!!

  • You're right, I did.

  • fuck ur self and try to see at wikipedia which mountain is more dangerous. u r a kid , u dont know 1% abt mountains.

  • actually I'm not a kid. And the fact that you consider wikipedia a reliable source saddens me.

but on a more serious note, take it easy with the f- words, because actual kids might be reading your posts. Imagine for a sec that I was kid......how pathetic is your life that you need to say something like that to a kid?

.....take a deep breathe and lets let this go.

  • well its not ur fault tht u dont consider wikipedia as a reliable source unlike most of the internet users do coz i think u havent been taught the meaning of wikipedia.

And abt the f word, i think here also u need to look at dictionary where u can use tht f word, People like u makin this an issue, or search in you tube abf tht f word, u 'll get the answer.

  • ...well perhaps you could enlighten me on the true meaning of Wikipedia.

And it's not so much the meaning of the f-word that bothers me, it is more the context in which it was used.

  • I can use the f word. Here's an example:

    die4gooners is an illiterate fuck.

  • yeah! and lets take an example of S,O and B.

mmm, ya acr08807 is Son Of a Bitch.

  • As if I cared what some illiterate fuck thinks.

  • so why u bother replying me? shut the fuck up n mind ur own business

  • If you want me to shut up, why ask me a question. I take it back, you're not illiterate, you're just stupid.

    And still a fuck.

  • all these warnings about k2 make me wanna reach the summit even more.... a daredevils dream

  • Percentage-wise, 30% of the climbers who attempt the summit die on the mountain. And of those who are in the Death Zone for more than 3 days, the mysterious flute and zither sounds of the Karakoram range drive almost 2 out of every 3 to take their own lives, never to descend "The Savage Mountain"

  • In terms of death toll, K2 is considered the deadliest. The most difficult climb, steeper and colder i.e. -40C compare to -30C on the Everest. What more you can say? Personally, I envy the courage of climbers who risking their live for the greatest challenge. Hopefully they know what they are doing. And if they are unsure of their survival on K2, please turn back. Don't add names on death statistic.

  • The famous saying about K2: 'if you summit Everest, the world envy you. But if you summit K2, the Everest summiters envy you'. They say, the higher you ascend to summit K2, the chance of you descending back alive is considerably reduced.

  • A very small number of ultra people have managed to come back alive from K2, 260 in 100 years of trying, its a special mountain in a special place.

  • I want to die up there !

  • i know what you mean bro

  • PAKISTAN has many more must climbing mountains but k2's da killer1

  • thats looks harder than everest

  • it is.

  • It is indeed.. Way harder. You've got to be a bit crazy to atempt something like climbing K2. It has killed a much higher percentage of the people trying to climb it than Everest. Not that summiting Everest is easy..(!) I have tremendous respect for people with the courage (and cash) to climb these 8000m+ mountains.

  • haha average time to get uoa and down :D there rather is an average number of dead climbers with over 50% ... so this mountain is nothing usual

  • I climbed it in 98, but had to go back up cause i left my fags at the top of the Abruttzi ridge

  • hehehe nice one

  • average trip? average? there is nothing like that, when the mountain only was climbed some hundred times before.

  • how long is the average trip up and down anyone

  • bravi .....posti mitici per pochi fortunati

  • Beautiful country! i would love to climb the K2

  • That is one badass looking mountain. My respect to those who have made it's summit!

  • the descent seems even more deadly, from what I've read...

  • So much harder to climb than Everest. It doesn't get enough credit.

  • My passion is to climb K2, once I get back to Pakistan; I'm going to start training for climbing K-2. I can't wait till I actually climb K-2, I know it's going to take years and years before I actually get to K-2, but I'm still so excited about it.

  • i'm doing it tomorrow

  • biast people cant see nature's beauty so sorry for those idiots

  • beautiful country i would like to travel to pakistan

  • i was at k2 in 1997 with a british army expidition i fortunatley did not climb it as the weather and conditions became to dangerous and we stopped on our journey at the mountian looking at the statistics it acctually says that this mountian takes 1 in evey three of its climbers

  • the statistics is: "for every 3 people who reach the summit, 1 dies trying."as u say it it s not right.

btw annapurna is the deadliest: for 2 people reaching the summit 1 dies trying

  • so basically, you must be at least somewhat suicidal to climb this mountain

  • you betcha.

Classic Russian Roulette has 16 % chance of death, less than k2 or Annapurna (from 28 to 40 % chance of death). Unprotected sex and smoking are safe habits, in comparison. Why do we condemn the latter behaviors and deem climbers as heroes ?

  • well climbing is difficult and takes seroius courage. i don't consider them heroes exactly, but i do respect the physical and mental strength it takes. but 1 out of 3 chance of dying?!?! if it was 1 out of 10, i could see how one could convince themselves that they're better than the other climbers that died and therefore will be able to avoid their own demise, but 1 out of 3 is asking for death -- there's no getting around it

  • I read somewhere that the average ratio over the years on K2 is: for every 5 people who reach the summit, there is 1 fatality.

  • AFAIK, It's actually 3:1 now..

  • the statistics may be correct, but you can be more cautious or less. if you know when you have to return without reaching the summit your chances may be better.

  • It's true, BlackFox, if you can spot the danger you can stop your climbing and come back. It's also true that among those dying on k2, annapurna etc, there were the best mountaineers. Sadly it's almost impossible to be sure of a serac resistance. What's true is that there are worst ways to die. If they accept the 40% chance of death on Annapurna, and they prefer to die young on the mountains they love, rather than at an old age on a hospital bedroom, it's their right

  • but don't you agree that the death rate after 1990 is more helpful to measure the risk? the death rate on almost all eight thousanders decreased noticeably after 1990 probably because of better equipment and more experience. since 1990 only 19.7% died on K2 and Annapurna and only 4.4% on Everest (compared to 37% before 1990).

  • It's a good thing. I even hope it will possible to build some cableway systems on these mountains, or there will be better and cheaper a jet-propelled aircraft having both vertical and horizontal flight, to help rescuing mountaineers in trouble, lowering further their death toll. However 19.7 % is always more than Russian Roulette (16 %).

  • thts because the govt of nepal banned climbing annapurna coz of high death rate during mid 80's

  • In the last accident on K2, one climber from Los Angeles, Nick Rice was supposedly delayed at Camp IV just before he could make the summit push with the rest, and decided to do it the next day instead. But the group that went ahead got trapped in the serac incident and once Rice learnt about the first guy who fell, the Serbian, he knew that its insane to push on to the summit and decided to hasten a retreat back to Base Camp. Surviving this mountain is a combination of real good luck and sense.

  • I'll go there when I'm ready... its a beautiful place to die...

  • It probably is the hardest mtn to climb, cause its much bigger then its surroundings, no sherpas to help you, and probably few are allowed in cause of the kashmir confict. Ah well, i wanna climb it (hopefully i wont die rofl)

  • that mountain is beatuiful. Maybe i'll travel there when im old enough lol

  • its the 2nd highest in the world

  • oo forgot, lovely pic COMPILATION & MUSIC MAAAN,GR8 UPLOAD :)

  • THE Worlds most difficult mountain to climb, PAKISTAN K2! WAT AN AMAZIN COUNTRY IT IS.

  • i want to go there

  • k2 is not the only adventerous place in pakistan, you can find many beautiful lakes, waterfall, glaciers, velleys, tracks, hiking places and desert safari.

    do you dare :)

  • It's tough like Pakistan and Pakistanis

  • DARE to explore

  • Don't worry about statistics... just do what you want to do ... at the end of the day... if you want to do K2 go for it... making it to the top of any mountain is an accomplishment just gotta make sure you plan for the round trip because going down is just as important. I'll look to do Everest first though like someone mentioned...

  • Only six women have climbed it successfully, but on there way back 5 women died. Only one survived. I was shocked to know this..............

  • According to Wikipedia at least 56 persons have died attempting to climb. Around 250 people have made it to the top and back down. Scary statistics...

  • Did you know that 86% of all statistics are meaningless?

  • Did you know that 14% of time statistics are meaningful.

  • did you know 100% of the time your opinion is meaningless?

  • Thanks to post these beautiful pictures, a awesome trip.

  • Nice Pictures............

  • The hike in looks so much like the hike up the vacas valley on the way to Aconcagua's basecamp. Im very surprised.

  • I know right? It's got like rocks and dirt and stuff just like the Aconcagua BC. Whoa! OK, before you completely blast me, let me type out J/K!

  • really hard, but i want to be the top of k2

  • Lol dreams... good but better not do it. Only 200-300 people made it to the summit and most die,

  • I dont know the latest stats but the mortality was unusually high and out of proportion for women, for this particular mountain..................

  • Yea its the toughest mountain on earth and its only about 100 feet below Everest so once you have climbed Everest then think serousely about K2.
