(see snopes or wiki) can you give me a source to show secession, states rights, and nullification were used, because the fact is the constitution does not allow for nullification-it was never authorized. secession as stated earlier was never granted, and supreme court has final say over state rights.

Gil Smart, you're a shill for the regime. Have you read the Constitution? The Tenth Amendment is clear about what powers the states have: all those not delegated to the feds by the CONSTITUTION. Health care mandates, federal regulation, FDA standards, infringements on gun rights, Roe v. Wade, the Patriot Act, Selective Service, the Federal Reserve...none of these things are constitutional!

Specific example of Federal government abuse: How about the upcoming healthcare bill.. It will require everyone to eventually buy health insurance, and fine or imprison you if you dont get it. If the public option passes, it will eventually force out the private options, and then the government can charge whatever they want because then they are the monopoly. Medicare, Postoffice is going bankrupt. Many other programs have overspent and you expect this new mandate to not overspend too? Stupid

Jim Crow laws were enacted by the federals when they took over the Texas government during their so-called reconstruction and the so-called supreme court supported and upheld these laws for near 100 years. It was the supreme court and the federal government that delayed the civil rights movement.

The liberals forget that we are a republic of states. The states have the power, not the federal government. The states have "ALLOWED" the federal government to have certain rights, but just as so, can take them back. If they try to force states to be slaves to federal government law, the people will have no choice but to eventually fight to retain their rights. The bill of rights, (2nd amendment) is there as a threat to those who try to Federalize America.

i'm from Texas, this guy hasn't read HCR 50. It serves as a memorial to the Congress of these United States. HCR 50 doesn't mention secession, it seeks to reaffirm the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Texas, along with 36 other states who have proposed or passed similar bills have come to realize that constant interference from the federal government has brought about the problems we face today. we only ask that the federal gov exercise only the power granted to it by the Constitution.

Yes the Southern, slave states were largely Democrats, but Dem does not equal left wing, especially in the Civil War and Reconstruction era. The Dems and Repubs have done a switch since then on the political continuum of social issues. Republicans at the time were progressive in pushing for abolition. The Dems, were Conservative back then.

One correction. It did happen in the 1830's and current actions are not too far out of line with what happened then. Can't really blame Texas for backing out of the union when the Civil War rolled around either. It was probably for the best of the state in the long run as it kept the fighting away from the state for the most part.

The Texas governor seat isn't all that powerful anyway. Glorified figure head of a prominent state.

Now to address what you said. In actuality, the government didn't care, when they should have. To say government backed money lenders is a misleading statement as they didn't back anyone until they explicitly said they were backing them. There will be oversight, it helps.

Government applied "Laissez-Faire" economics to the point where the illegal actions of the bankers were ignored as the government didn't care anymore. Sure, send a white collar criminal to jail for a decade or so, but when it comes to actually protecting other people's assets, the government wouldn't do anything.

Now that will change over time with the realization and regulations in protecting everyone's assets are a good strategy to a healthy economy.
