@profwito you neglect to say altho secession was requested by texas, that right was not given. what they did get was the right to split into no more than 5 states. (see snopes or wiki) can you give me a source to show secession, states rights, and nullification were used, because the fact is the constitution does not allow for nullification-it was never authorized. secession as stated earlier was never granted, and supreme court has final say over state rights.
Its called the song of "I don't want to pay for Medical care." Or "Don't penalize doctors for making money - they ain't a charity." It IS time to take our toys and go home. Big business is all fine and good but its all about them and not about US anymore. Republicans and Democrats??? No, its about both ends against the middle i.e. - US! Social issues are bones politicians and big business fobb off on the ignorant robbed worker.
Gil Smart, you're a shill for the regime. Have you read the Constitution? The Tenth Amendment is clear about what powers the states have: all those not delegated to the feds by the CONSTITUTION. Health care mandates, federal regulation, FDA standards, infringements on gun rights, Roe v. Wade, the Patriot Act, Selective Service, the Federal Reserve...none of these things are constitutional!
Specific example of Federal government abuse: How about the upcoming healthcare bill.. It will require everyone to eventually buy health insurance, and fine or imprison you if you dont get it. If the public option passes, it will eventually force out the private options, and then the government can charge whatever they want because then they are the monopoly. Medicare, Postoffice is going bankrupt. Many other programs have overspent and you expect this new mandate to not overspend too? Stupid
the only thing we have to fear is the unconstitutional incompetent imperial federal government.
no empire last forever. they all fall eventually. it happened in Rome, Brittany, Germany, Japan, Germany, and many other places and its gonna happen here soon. the federal empire at this time has a whole lot in common with the roman empire and many others just before their demise.
Jim Crow laws were enacted by the federals when they took over the Texas government during their so-called reconstruction and the so-called supreme court supported and upheld these laws for near 100 years. It was the supreme court and the federal government that delayed the civil rights movement.
@803honda yes they did enact jim crow laws at the urging of the south, but as the nation developed and the laws were recognized as barbaric, the south balked at changing. how many feds were killed in the south just trying to help blacks vote and their kids to attend school with white kids? we shouldnt be romanticizing the past, we should learn all sides and understand all that went on. and not let that sort of thing creep into our nation again.
The liberals forget that we are a republic of states. The states have the power, not the federal government. The states have "ALLOWED" the federal government to have certain rights, but just as so, can take them back. If they try to force states to be slaves to federal government law, the people will have no choice but to eventually fight to retain their rights. The bill of rights, (2nd amendment) is there as a threat to those who try to Federalize America.
@jacobew2000 jacob you are cherrypicking and not considering the fact that the reference you point out is..the statement you refer to does not mean our legally elected officials, it refers to being overtaken by a gov of another location.
You outraged about fluoride in the water? About mercury in the vaccines being forced on some workers? About a war that costs a billion a week and has killed over a million people already? should be
This guy should read the constitution. He's still thinking in terms of the false "right/left" paradigm. The issue is with those who think a strong central government is the solution. Just because you support the sovereign rights inalienable to the people of your state, doesn't make you a racist. This guy should do a little reading on what a federal republic exactly is. He's been brainwashed into believing in their centralized system, and that is not what our federation of States was meant to be.
Wow this is pure propaganda. We are being attacked by both sides of the media. None of the top talking heads honest. Rush & this Douche share allot in common.
i'm from Texas, this guy hasn't read HCR 50. It serves as a memorial to the Congress of these United States. HCR 50 doesn't mention secession, it seeks to reaffirm the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Texas, along with 36 other states who have proposed or passed similar bills have come to realize that constant interference from the federal government has brought about the problems we face today. we only ask that the federal gov exercise only the power granted to it by the Constitution.
we are sick of unfunded mandates and we are sick of the attacks on our freedom coming from both parties. we continue to send foreign aid to other countries when it would be better spent improving education and infrastructure at home. i'm not against helping others, but we CANNOT continue to send money overseas at the detriment of ours and our children's future. if we want other nations to embrace our ideals, isn't that better accomplished by becoming an example worth following?
I should not even have to list ANY justifications at all. Secession is a constitutional right. It always has been. People just forgot it after Lincoln decided to challenge it with military force.
This is a LIBERAL cause. Either get on the side of liberty, or get out of our way.
P.S. It was NOT the right-wing who was in favor of Slavery and Jim Crow laws. Get you history straight.
@gunsandbullhorns "P.S. It was NOT the right-wing who was in favor of Slavery and Jim Crow laws. Get you history straight." How exactly do you figure? Yes the Southern, slave states were largely Democrats, but Dem does not equal left wing, especially in the Civil War and Reconstruction era. The Dems and Repubs have done a switch since then on the political continuum of social issues. Republicans at the time were progressive in pushing for abolition. The Dems, were Conservative back then.
One correction. It did happen in the 1830's and current actions are not too far out of line with what happened then. Can't really blame Texas for backing out of the union when the Civil War rolled around either. It was probably for the best of the state in the long run as it kept the fighting away from the state for the most part.
The Texas governor seat isn't all that powerful anyway. Glorified figure head of a prominent state.
Well, show me where in the constitution the fed is allowed to spend money on education, healthcare, welfare, or to fund and/or claim stake in privet enterprise, environmental protection, and many other things that it is currently illegally funding? What I have written here isn't even a comprehensive list it is just what I could rattle off the top of my head. With a list so long do you really NEED specifics? Especially considering bills are passed all the time (ie stimulus 1) without specifics...
I don't want the government throwing trillions of dollars at big business and trying to regulate it's operation. That is how we got into the situation in the first place. Fanny may & Freddie mac! I was happy to see protesters standing up against the bailouts. You have to be out of your mind to support them.
Yeah, time sure did change. Due to government backing the lenders got their grubby hands on every mortgage that circulated the financial market. Add in some campaigns contributions and a pat on the back, "Your doing a good thing congressman , your helping poor people get a home". Your probably going to ignore everything I say , but do your really think the bailouts are helping anything ?
First off, as an editorial, I'll point out how annoying it is to see people use "your" in the place of "you're". Here's a hint, if you can't use "you are" in the place of one of the two, USE "YOUR"! Substitution god dammit.
Now to address what you said. In actuality, the government didn't care, when they should have. To say government backed money lenders is a misleading statement as they didn't back anyone until they explicitly said they were backing them. There will be oversight, it helps.
Government applied "Laissez-Faire" economics to the point where the illegal actions of the bankers were ignored as the government didn't care anymore. Sure, send a white collar criminal to jail for a decade or so, but when it comes to actually protecting other people's assets, the government wouldn't do anything.
Now that will change over time with the realization and regulations in protecting everyone's assets are a good strategy to a healthy economy.
Actually it is when they apply laws that deregulate the market, so it isn't a fail but a simple statement of fact.
Laissez-faire economics is favoritism for corporate "rights" (Right to trash to environment and right to screw people over and even kill them) which requires action.
Lolz. you don't have even a basic understanding of Laissez-faire. Just stop.
Laissez-faire can only occur in an complete Anarcho-capatialist society. seeing how we do not have such a system logically we can not have laissez-faire. Call it what ever you want limited government, conservitive, republican, what ever, any action under our current system can not by any twist or spin be called laissez-faire.
Ugh, shall I dumb my comment down MORE to satisfy your dumb ass? No, I won't, I know damn well what the bullshit Austrian economists are peddling, there is no need for you to bring yourself to a level worthy or debating.
Oh, and if you actually think anarcho-capitalism doesn't favour corporatist motives, you have no understanding of human nature and should step out of the playing field until you do your god damn homework.
its not a matter of dumbing down, its a matter of using the correct terms. your use of laissez-faire is completely wrong, do YOUR homework. as far as human nature goes, i find it pretty fucking ironic that someone who is so critical of human nature such as yourself would be so trusting in the government. correct me if i'm wrong but was it not the government who built and dropped a nuclar fucking bomb, a democratic president if i do recall. Your logic is internally inconsistent.
Really, and how was it wrong in any way? Mass deregulation in the field giving complete control to the free market also known as doing nothing. Where was I wrong? Simple bloody question.
Plus I would rather trust regulators of stupid people rather than the exploiters of stupid people. You right-wing libertarians/conservatives drive me crazy with your lack of knowledge and common sense.
Now drop it, you misunderstood me, stop digging the hole.
I misunderstood you? you misunderstand Laissez-faire. i already went over this, wipe Marx's cum off of your eyes and read what i actually wrote, not what you think i wrote.
as far as your view on human nature, your logic is once again inconsistent and shows a complete ingorance of "exploitation" and free markets. no one is exploited under a free market, all interactions in a free market are voluntary . you dont understand that all government actions are exploitive IE taxes.

Let's draw a distinction between the ADJECTIVE "right/left-wing", and the NOUN "right/left-wing".
I stuck the article THE in front of "right-wing" to indicate the noun — i.e. the political faction on the right side of the isle.
I don't think the Dems were conservative back then. I think the Dems were liberal back then, except on the Slavery issue.
Since you know about the switch, shall I assume you're New-Left, Palæoconservative or Libertarian? Or are you just well-educated?
