I was on this little tiny FOB called FOB Patriot. We didn't have a mess hall so we always went to Marez to eat. We walked out literally 30 seconds before this happened. We thought it was a mortar because it was always getting mortared. It was a big target seen for miles. Going back in to help, I'll never forget what I say that day. In a raid months after, we had found the people who planned the attack by accident. Looking for a kidnapped girl, we had found this map and video you see here.

I was there. I lost 2 soldiers in this explosion. I still meet one of the mothers at the one soldiers gravesite every year. I do it out of obligation.
