He is not afraid of breaking the rules to make it alive. With that kind of sensitivity he can't reach everybodys heart in cold times like we have today.
Cziffra is a genius. We all can see the centre of the target after his hits. A talent strikes the targets wich we all have known before. Thats the difference. Thanks to everybody who made Cziffra possible and that he was born in times of recording.
Can someone upload his 1959 version? I am very curious because I have not heard it yet. It is an outstanding performance, too, knowing that Cziffra's hands were ruined by the forced labour from 1950 to 1953.
Another superb performance by Bolet is a spontaneous (no edits) studio performance recorded for RCA in July, 1973. There are a few wrong notes, but the sound is superior to the live recording from February, 1974, the piano is still a Baldwin, and the conception is gigantic. Bolet: Undiscovered Liszt Recital, RCA 09026-63748-2. (I don't upload copyrighted material)
May I disagree with you? The sound of Bolet's studio Tannhauser is distinctly inferior to his live recording, though the performance is more or less equal.
Bolets conception is incredible and his live performance is trgically marred only by that dreadful piano he is playing. It's a Baldwin I'm sure and I think that for Bolets technique the Baldwin is utterly inadequate. Much prefer him in Bechstein mode.
isnt this part two?

Great playing but Bolet is still the owner of this piece.

American pianos cannot be positively compared to German pianos...

I agree with you entirely.

I too prefer Bolet on Bechstein, but Baldwin is still not bad at all.
