Lacross has nothin on this it's like the flag football compared to rugby it takes more skill n u gotta be tough to play stickball n if nothin else u get respect from the other teams because most are to scared to try it
Tewa'a:raton tekajihkwa'eks (HITTING THE STICKS)! MOHAWK version is what the white man turned into LACROSSE... Our tradtional medicine GAME is pretty much the same except we have 2 goals and carry only one bigger stick. Can our people put a team into this tournament? Leave the BITCHASS pads an' helmets at home
@armii67 we have youth teams from ten years or to the adult league at 18 on up. there are people in theiir 40's and 50's who are still in good enough shape to still play.
amazing sport this is the first time ive seen it! a real warrior sport! total respect!im from ireland and our ancient sport of hurling is similar! it also in history settled disputes between our ancient tribes! respect to stickball and to the choctaw nation!
@AOBSHADOWGLASS It was very cool of you to write this. There’s a long history of goodwill among the Irish and the Choctaws as you may know. I’ve never watched hurling before but due to your endorsement I will do that right now. Peace to you and yours.
@AOBSHADOWGLASS We have a long standing history of respect for our friends in Ireland. During the potato famine we sent food over even though we were the poorest people in Mississippi. Your country returned the favor when we were hit hard by Hurricane Katrina with food and clothes, so i say YAKOKI (Thank You)
I'm 1/16th choctaw and 1/16th souix. My heart is all native. So when I see this I hear silence in heaven. And I love my people. Thank you. and You're welcome. Let's take this wonderful land back.
Refs can eject players from the game, not count a legitimate score, or even take points away from a team. They can reset the clock by adding or removing time, if the ball goes out of bounds they can move the toss up closer to a goal post or further away. These are just to name a few. So just like in any sport.
No problem. The guy commenting is Tribal too. The footage is old but we still play. The other video I have on here is the last remainiing seconds from last year's championship game in OT.
Played this last spring with my native brothers at the University of Oklahoma. Found out that, if hit hard enough, I bounce. Kinda funny really, but otherwise I'm terrible at playing. Trying to find a team down here in SE OK, if anybody sees this and knows a team or even just somebody to practice with, give me a yell!
I was at the Cherokee Heritage Museum and played a very tame version of stickball. I'm about as Native American as the man on the moon but I've officially found my new favorite sport :) It's a pretty gender biased game though... Even the pros we were playing with said that women win 80% of the time.
I did not like the music either but this was a promo video for the 50th annversary. We had to use canned music because of licensing issues. You know how it is.
i used to play stickball alot...and watching this video brings up cool memories...everyone has to try playing it atleast once....if you like playing football?..youll love stickball
It's a great game. I played on a mostly non-Indian team that is friends with the Conehatta team for a long time. My ten minutes of field time (over ten years, lol!) in the tournament were among the most intense of my life! The athleticism is takes to be a good player is off the charts.
This sport was taught to the choctaw by the french, if you think this film is hardcore imagine my greatgrandfather played it in the 1800's when they actually used rocks instead of balls. people were killed from head injuries commonly then.
Conehatta Community,in Newton County Mississippi, is the best in this sport. if conehatta/Unified and other conehatta warrior, playing for other teams, get togater and combine as one. it would not be fair to other communties...C-town
i was watching a game in choctaw, mississippi..there was a guy taken out of the game because his eye was all broken and everything..so..your right...you will put an eye out...
i'ma cherokee from OK n gotta play wit unified dis year. n beaver dam only beat us by one point too! who knows, maybe unified coulda won it all. lol. guess ders always next year tho. lol.
Wow this is cool. I'm only 3/16 Choctaw I think(if my great great grandma was full blooded choctaw then I would be 3/16 right?), but I like to acknowledge all the blood that I possiably have.
Thanks for watching. This is an old video and was an informational pieace to peak interest locally during our 50th celebration. We still play the game every year.

well we play for our cerremonies, not for tournaments. we play girls against guys tho, so the guys r SUPPOSED to be nice to the girls, but the girls can get pretty rough.... lol
