  • Man she had it! Moved like a female M Jackson! She should've been a super pop star!

  • I don't care what nobody says! JODY WAS and IS THE BOMB! Sing it GIRL!

  • Was this the video that catapulted her from being a Shalamar vocalist to late 80's fashion icon? She looks incredible in this video.

  • I don't why people come on here thinking ALL of the new female singers are trashy skanks. I'll bet back then some people thought Jody looked like trashy tramp too.

  • another of many great songs by Jody Watley

  • Jodi's dance energy is on the level of Michael Jackson. She is high octane. So beautiful and great body. Loved her in the 80's too...

  • Hit #1 on the Billboard dance chart for 1 week on Feb 13, 1988

  • I wish this era of music would comeback? Until then were stuck with todays crap with no talent!!

  • I want those shoes.

  • wow! if that song were done today it would be some kind of porn video but that sister made it sexy with class! what an artist, what a decade!

  • lol its Andre' Cymone. Former early Prince bassist.

  • jody watley still sexy as shitt holla at me babe

  • @ jabbers33....u got that partially right...she was married to Andre, but they had a son, not a daughter together.

  • @jabsflow They have a daughter together.

  • i love her belt. Shes pretty and I love her voice.

  • For a while there Jody was right there with Janet and Madonna

  • I LOVE this song! But everytime I watch this video, I laugh at the expressionless face of the keyboard player. Also, doesn't the drummer look like he could be the one who plays Jody's boyfriend on her "Don't You Want Me?" video? Hard to tell with his sunglasses on! Oh well!

  • @jabbers33 The drum player is Andre Simone. Jody was married to him and they had a daughter together.

  • @rarabarak @jabsflow Who are you people Maury Povich? smh Jody Watley Soul Train, Shalamar and Solo, we love her musical contributions, spirit and style

  • @ClassicShalamar Let em Know

  • @ClassicShalamar And who are you?? The school principal. How you gonna check somebody because you think they're checking somebody else. Shake your damn head at yourself and your illogical brain loll. I love the hell out of Jody..In Shalamar and out of Shalamar. Don't get it twisted.

  • When I 1st saw this video as a little girl, I thought the guy on that big guiter thingy was soo hot. Now that I've grown up my gaydar went sky high on him. Too bad most of the good looking back-up guys in music videos are gay.

  • I had way to many Jody posters on my wall. Teenage crush I suppose.

  • ive been a fan since she was with sharlimar now thats was a very good band

  • I Love Jody Watley !!!

  • Jody Watley has always been true to herself, that's why record buisness started to ignore her when she had started to develop her music. I respect her for doing her own thing, no matter what is going on around. And that's something you can't tell about too many artists out there...

  • Jody hit #10 in Billboard, 4-16-88. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!

  • I idolized her as a kid.

  • Yeah, now this is what music sounds like! I miss the hell out of sounds like this.

  • "your some kinda lover...yea yea yea!! lol I told my ex this when he started acting up!!

  • ''I always love this video.''

  • I love how Jodi's music brings back the good memories.

  • I like the fact that her teeth are crooked. That added to the sexiness of her protruding feminine luminescent jawline.

  • Keri Hilson needs to watch this video and take notes

  • I can dig the time machine, man them were the days. Work hard, party harder. Stay up all night then to work to rock the world.... The other poster said lets build a time machine and go ole school...

  • THANKS A BUNCH - FROM A ONE TIME FAN!

  • HI THERE MS WATLEY CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHY YOU HAVE BARRED ME FROM MAKING COMMENTS ON YOUR VIDEOS???????????????????????

  • i love jody watley! she was my idol back then! i wanted to dress like her, look like her! i thought she was beautiful! still a big fan!

  • This is a GREAT music video. Not just because of the great artist and song, but the video itself is EXTREMELY well done. The camera angles, the editing, the wardrobes, the set design - very classy. Amazing!

  • Let's build a hot tub time machine & head back to the late 80's & 1990 when music was real & also attend Jody Watley,Janet,Karyn White,Pebbles,Tracie spencer concerts & dance our butts off & have a fantastic time instead of trash music today THUMBS UP IF YOU AGREE!!!

  • @Gshock714 COUNT ME IN!! While you're at it, let's go back a little further when Eddie Murphy was still funny and SNL was worth watching

  • @Gshock714 Dude - you are so right! Those were great times; the best of times. Everybody you mentioned are tops - especially Jodi and Ms. Jackson!

  • @Gshock714 YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! For Real!

  • I still love Jody, I remember being in high school listening to her. She was so funky yet very classy, I remember I wanted to copy everything she wore.

I remember someone saying that Jody just made up her dance steps while filming her videos. Nothing was choreographed. That's the coolest thing.

  • I still love Jody, I remember being in high school listening to her. She was so funky yet very classy, I remember I wanted to copy everything she wore.

  • Cool Jammm..

  • THE hottest black woman of all time.

  • Can someone tell me who the guy is that plays the stand up bass, and the piano in this video? Im thinking it was a brother, but not for sure?

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL Lastly because I don't want to labor over your ill intended motives, but for me Jody was / is more like a David Bowie or Grace Jones, not as popular as some Mega Selling Stars but HellaCool and Fabulous then and now. Artists like her are never forced using contrived formula to feed "the masses" just naturally hot with much flavor musically and stylistically. I'll take that type of artistic integrity anytime and still take the others for what they represent. Apples and oranges.

  • Comment removed

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL She has said over the years about her goals then and now which is making great music and growing as an artist, not being the most popular or mass consumed. I'd also add that her contributions are vast most obviously the Rap/Sung formula with Pop/HipHop. You brought up Whitney who doesn't write her own music or produce, Jody does both from her solo debut up thru her last album a few years ago.

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL As a fan of Jody's I'd also like to offer my opinion. She never patterned herself after any artist. Look at her videos (more art and distinct style) absent choreography and dancers like Janet (who I also like) and free of controversy and a desire to "Rule The World" like Madonna (I'm a fan of hers as well). Jody took more risks, less commercial and not for everyone. Of the 3, my perception is she was/is more concerned about artistic growth, not money, fame or mass popularity

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL It would seem that if you were concerned about world events and politics you'd be commenting at places like Huffpost, WSJ, Democracy Now, etc and if biblically inclined any of the outlets for the spiritually inclined. This is a classic Pop video on YouTube. If an artist isn't your cup of tea, why post at all? Here's a verse for you: Galatians 5:22 "But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness.." all missing from your original comment.

  • @chicsensibilities good point but this person has the intelligence of a speed bump and will never get it. she's preforming as a Christian and probably a follower of Bishop Eddie Long(stroke). Martin Luther King was a Christian who practiced love, understanding and compassion and could call himself a Christian, she's just a fan. there's a difference. Dr. King even loved thy enemy. Remember that quote Afford2travel? it's in that book you hold up when you're screaming at gay people!

  • I suggest yall go curl up and read a good book like the bible like I will sometime tonight, because in an economy like we have now praying benefits everyone. Like Madonna says Life is a mystery, everyone must stand alone that's from Like a Prayer or like Bon Jovi says Living on a Prayer, or like MC Hammer says That's why we pray, we got to pray just to make it today and it's all true

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL why would i take moral advice from someone as yourself that use the world SHIT in one sentence and then advise readers to read the bible in another, so i send my rebukings to you airmail. you've been on this site seeking to destroy, so i know amongst some of your famous titles, legion must the most popular name fro you on your Church roster! here's my advice to you. find someone who loves you for your heart, cause it won't be for your fadded good looks & empty bank account!

  • I like the 1970's songs and groups like the BeeGees, KC and the Sunshine Band, Barry White, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder although some of these artist came out in the 60's, but I don't debate anyone that was a teenager to young adult about the 1970's like you did me, I remember the first beta max vcrs, standing outside @ 9 years old 4th grade when the hostages were welcomed home, I remembered when ronald reagon got shot I was 10 then can you

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL i, too, enjoyed my grandmother's music of that time period as well as others, and though i debated you on those issues here's the difference between the two of us. i appreciated the music of that time, you're stuck in an 80's ol' school time zone comparing an artist, or person dress and look of a certain interval. so you were 10 when Nixon got shot, i wasn't born!!! i'm sure you have full eye witnessed details from your first laborious job as a waitress at the last supper, too!

  • Cause yall take shit too personal, life is way too important for that

  • Oh by the way which Madonna has done other things like fashion lines, books, movies, and fitness centers and she still tours and does not care, nor does J. Jackson who is benefitting off of her dead brother's fame, I just saying Jody Whatley was small potatoes, deal with it, I liked some of her songs, but it is what it is, having money, a roof over your head, and good health, and a nice car to drive and traveling is what is important to me, I can't say the same for the rest of you...cont

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL the music business is like gumbo, the potato is no more, or no less than the shrimp, and depending on what group of followers you pose that question depends on the assortment. club kids who don't listen to the radio, or Janet aren't checking for her when they walk into Amoeba music. your facts are as useless as you're presence on this page. speaking of your job and so forth is unimportant. until you can prove ownership of the ocean liner, we're all in the same boat together! Bam

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL another useless point of Madge's stockpile. you had taken the time to research Jody's past you'd discover many of hers, as well. she continues touring (saw her in Nov., in San fransisco) she's done movies, Broadway, fitness videos sung for the President but you choose not to research. question what was your last great accomplishment? (and high school BJ's don't count). when talking of an artist or music, don't allow your mind to wonder. it's much to small to be out on it's own!

  • Willow smith and Lourdes Leon are all over the news media because of who their parents are, just like Mylie Cyrus was, yes Janet Jackson was born into a showbiz family and benefitted off of M. Jackson's fame, but really no one talks about Eminem and Jay Z, I am sick of people talking about that old white woman Madonna, Madonna vs Gaga, so and so is better than Madonna, and her bratty daughter is the one whose career is on the rise, Madonna's music career is @ it's peak, but she don't care cont

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL finally a valid point we both can agree upon of you being "sick!" you're issues is more of color, than talent. you have issues! com'on, you can tell me...we're you disowned at birth? if you're so sick of people talking about Madonna, why do you insist on joining the conversation? because it's exactly what your ass did, you brought her name to this page, but yet, you're SICK of people talking about her. your mental state has hit rock bottom, don't dig any farther.

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL i don't get how you can call people old, pretend your young (watching Nixon getting shot -no doubt on B&W T.V.) remember how Jody dressed during that period, but knows Madonna's history. Babe, your math doesn't add to your age! you may want to work on your addition and subdivision.

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL since it seem that your a cruise ship janitorial job keeps you decking them hall and totting that bale, how would you know how the music business operates? i'll help you. stay with me if you can. the music business was created for an artist to create a name and then go out to create a career. Madonna made money from her business acumen more than her record sales, as well as Janet and Jody, but you would never know this because your one, last brain cell is dying from loneliness!

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL Hollywood trust-fund stars makes it by namesake. only. your point is null and void, i don't know why you enjoy sharing your dumbness with the public, but everyone has their fetishism. Jody's never benefited from an easy ride on someones coat tail. not even her former group that i just learned she was a member; and why should i talk about Jay Z and his money when he does enough for everyone. I like burger king, but after the meal is gone i don't sing a song of having it my way!

  • Not a damn thing, I have a full-time job and two businesses to run, I pay for my internet service just like everybody else I cannot make a comment on nobody without people being offended, just because I don't agree with you or yall about someone I got to be the villian, just be real the 1980's is gone, yes just like decades before it the music lives on, the people of today like Beyonce, Rihanna and others exist, tommorrow there will be other starlets

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL you have a full time job and two business? dear, working in the breadline, twice a day don't count! you have no topic to agree with me on, because i never versed a subject, i replied back to your statement. you came here with a vendetta, not to voice an opinion. and who the hell is, 'y'all'? i'm the only one who's replied back to your statement. your comments are all over the place, one having nothing to do with the other. so sad that you've rapped mother nature's good morality .

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL if you're on this page offending others, shouldn't that tell you you're company isn't needed? you've made yourself into the villain with no help from anyone on this page, so wear the outfit of ignorance, well. i must say you're a great designer. i've realized the 80's ended January 1990. you're the one who's melancholy to that era and Soul train and and can't catch up to the times, or have you forgotten? but you're over 40 plus, they say the mind is the first to go with age!

  • Leave me alone, unless you are interested in a group cruise or sharing a vacation expeierce, I don't care about these people like that I just was making a comment, this is the 21st century Osama Bin Laden just got captured, there is more than enough problems in this world than to worry about what this artist does or not, I could care less about Whitney, Janet, Madonna or Jody Whatley, they all have been famous and have had money, M got the most of the four but like J says what hav u done lately

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL I do realize what century we're living along with current affairs of the world. let's keep in mind it was you who jumped into a time capsule, traveling Back to the 80's, i just went along for the ride. why're you hatiin' on Jody? a woman you don't know, never met, and from your statement never been a fan. it's more than obvious that you DO care about the women you mentioned in your post, though they're not loosing any sleep wondering if you're breathing or turning into mote.

  • You young people under 40 is not old enough to remember the whole 1980's

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL I'm young enough to remember the 80's. I'm Just not old enough to forget them!

  • Jody Whatley was an old-school madonna clone, just like groups like expose, company b, and coutless of others shalamar she did not dress like this, nor when she was a soul train dancer, she was produced and managed by a white man other than Andre somone, one other thing she was being overs shadowed by Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson the two biggest black female artist of the 1980's. She should have been more original there were many Madonna clones then and nothing today has changed Im 40 now

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL for some visitors on this site, I think the best part of them ran down their mother's leg during conception. I'm 34, and I remember the 80's very well and when I think of Divas from that era, Miss Watley's (catch the correct spelling) name ranks high on the list, escorting a style that hadn't reached a level of excitement during that decade, even Supermodels Cindy Crawford and Naiomi Cambell mimicked her style. Even Whitney picked up a petticoat and big hair!

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL 'MADONNA CLONE?' Never! In fact, check your history. Before the movie 'Social network' and Modonna's EXPRESS YOURSELF video, Jody had introduced to the world David Fincher when he directed Jody's REAL LOVE video a year (maybe, two) before EXPRESS YOURSELF. Miss Houston and Jackson was not the BIGGEST black female artist, there were many that shared this position in different genre, Tina Turner, Anita Baker, Sade, least you forget, Miss Jody Watley!

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL Recounting the moments of the 80's and speaking of Madonna's EXPRESS YOURSELF video, before Madge reached out using the king of Cone bras, Jean Paul Gautier, or Richard Tyler for her black suit, Jody made the suit sexy in 1989 REAL LOVE, and harnessed her top in a Gautier bra and body molds from her first post- Shalamar single WHERE THE BOY ARE videos. Jody's always been a self-made artist instead of taking the easy route of the machinery that Janet and Whitney enjoyed so well.

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL I would say Janet should've been more original. We had a Michael, why did we need two? And to be honest, and Ne Ne leaks could've have said more plain, the only reason why people were interested in Janet was because of her LAST name. If it had been Johnson, no one would care about her, until Michael made some inside calls. You know it, and I know it! Anyone out there remember her DREAM STREET album? That's the REAL Janet. And she refuses to bid on Ebay for that waste of vinyl.

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL "shalamar she did not dress like this, nor when she was a soul train dancer" I quoted this statement of your because nothing made sense. Why should Jody still be dressed as she was in her teens? Do you still wear Cross-colors, high-wasted jeans, or nylon colorful baggy shirts? I should hope not, though some long for the return cheap clothes and synthetic weaves.

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL Jody's return back to the music scene after her departure from her former trio was refreshing to the radio air waves. A moment never past where one couldn't help for not hearing her voice somewhere, all while waiting to see her next look . Jody was so far ahead of her time that the image and style of artist such as the Rihanna, Beyonce' and others are only forged cartoon copies, depicting what Jody created twenty plus years earlier. Talking ingenuity. That's originality!

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL what does the color of a one's skin has to do with good music and business? I don't get the whole hypothesis approach behind this thinking process, plus, I didn't know that Bernard Edwards (from Chic) was white. Wow! He had the deepest tan I'd ever seen. In fact, darker then Andre' Cymone (come on dear, use spell check!). I guess you forgot all of Whitney's biggest hits where produce people who (shall we say) were a lighter shade of darkness. Mmm...And you're a fan of the 80's?

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL as far as management being white, that seems like inside information. How'er you so privy to such information to know her affairs, especially since Jody's never been televised with large entourages, or handlers, and since I am a true fan who owns every interview, performance ( bootlegged on video. Sorry, Jody), DVD's from Japan, news clipping, concert tour book, T-shirt I think I would've have come across a white overseer, somewhere. Maybe you need to recheck your archives!

  • @AFFORD2TRAVEL the world has changed, and sad to say the change in music wasn't good for the music business. One would think that you would comprehend this best, now that you're in the twilight moments of your life, going through the change yourself from Maxi pads to Depends. Is there some kind of hatred you can't seem to resolve within your soul toward Jody? She's conquered many barriers in life it seems, and haters like you is just one more hurdle she'll have to sprint and jump.

  • This song was so hot and so was she!

  • I have heard this song so many times before but I didn't know she sang this. Awesome!

  • For a time there, no one was cooler than Jody Watley. She put out some killer singles and I loved her fashion sense. You go Miss Watley.

  • she was the love of my teenage 1980'S LIFE!!!

  • i use to always get her and downtown julia brown mixed up.

  • She was the first black woman I had a crush on. I just now realized it. Something about this song a female musicians that really do it for me. I think it's the romantic poet spirit within them, and that they know how to break through the rules of sexism. ;{~

  • Damn this girl is good, one of my favorite tunes.

What happened to her? She shouldnt have stoped singin

    Where are my keys?

  • @bullnibler She didn't stop singing, you just stopped listening. True artists evolve and real fans keep up.

  • @jwatley1 True, but unfortunately she evolved into a Makeover which seemed more of a parody of her former self. i am still waiting for a true return.

  • @whimsicalocean Parody (comedy /caricature?) I don't see anything parody in an artist choosing to evolve not wanting to get locked into a formula or box - some fans don't like much change. She had a mission post Shalamar achieving it creating her own mark. Her music makeover has included thoughtful progression ranging from inspirational It All Begins With You, spoken word When A Man Loves A Woman touching upon domestic violence, respect, AIDS and so forth, a wide range in all of her music

  • @jwatley1 Don't get me wrong. i do love artist to change, to grow, for without it they are just playing the same song over and over. i can do that by playing the cd over and over. i love what Ms. Watley has done through her words, music and dance, the messages she has conveyed have been timely, but with The Makeover cd, i did not feel that way. i like when an artist might include a song or two of covers, but a whole cd seems like a lack of originality.

  • Respond to this video... i will still listen to her music and i wait anxious for the arrival of the new cd. i wish her much more success in the future. A rebirth of success.

  • Damn this girl is good, one of my favorite tunes.

What happened to her? She shouldnt have stoped singin

  • @bullnibler shes comin out with a new album this year

  • I loved the Black male musicians and how they looked different-like the Cameo look back then...in my 20's I did the same and now yeah, but more older-looking...(in my 40's, military/married w/kids), but yeah...back then it was refreshing to see leather, Black and hair other than slick "soul-glo."

  • this is my jam right here!!!!!

  • I like Jody's jacket its fly and cool.

  • Dam good music...

  • What amazes me the most, other than the great singing ability of Auntie Jody, is that uncle Andre has remained quiet all of these years. It is great to see Andre in this video, along with Tim...awesome!!

  • @JellyBean2144 what are you talking about. She is my Cousin so I guess we are related.....

  • @sharkaranyang ...lol. Sup cousin..lol

  • Lips of perfection..............

  • I wanted that Chanel outfit when I was younger. Of course where I lived, you couldn't buy anything Chanel, but I was dreaming anyway!! Love this song and Jody!

  • ohhh andre cymone on the drums...hot!!!

  • @SuperKhill

dude, i am lookin for this song that goes something like "hu hu the way you make me feel" this one line is sung by the chorus in the song. this is the only line i know from the song.... can you please tell me, if you know, what song is it and who is it by n it's not the MJ song

  • Who edited this video? This is NOT the cut I'm used to seeing.

  • The way it started out, it sounded like it was going to be a house track.

  • I LOVE THAT SONG VERY MUCH!!!!!

  • Absolutely no one can compare to Ms. Watley today!!!!

  • @Delisle4 YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!

  • One of the 1st records I ever had when I was 7 yrs. old My Mom told me that my little brother pick it out 'cos he thought the Record Sleeve of Ms. Jody was HOT!!!

  • JODY WATLEY WAS "SOMEKIND" OF PIECE OF ASS BACK IN THE DAY. MY DAD USED TO PLAY THIS AND TALK ABOUT HOW MUCH HE WANTED TO BANG HER. I KNOW WHAT HE'S TALKIN ABOUT NOW.

  • this is where madonna got her style from jody did this style first....madonna is the black jody watley

  • @ThrowbackJamzOnFB u know i agree with you on that her style was first madonna kind of took it madonnas garbage compared too her lol

  • Y they got a fake/generic Michael Jackson (kybrds/bass), El Debarge(guitar)and Prince(drums) in da video LOL

  • @MsFGrace11 I said the same thing about the musicians too ! LOL!!

  • @MsFGrace11 Oh the dude on the drums was her husband Andre Cymone, who played with Prince in the early days!

  • @moonchild1973 she kind of also reminds me of miki Howard lol.

  • Jody OWNED the late 80s!!!!

  • Now that's how you make a video, to make you feel oh so real.

  • Fierce Ms. Watley!!!! Love this song and the video is HOT!!!!! Work those clothes too!

  • I love those Converse hightops................

  • jody was/still is gorgeous! and her ex, andre cymone was fine too

  • I was in high school, memories!

  • Is that Jody's ex beau and baby daddy Andre Cymone playing all the different instruments in the video ?

  • That was the third U.S Top 10 by Jody Watley. The song made it the # 10 on the Billboard Charts in the summer of 1988.

Thank you VEVO for posting the vid in H.Q.

  • This is for my Sexy Ass Cuz Mich...AKA "Petey Pie's Mama"...Love Ya Guurlllll

  • Keith Cohen/Louil Silas rmeix - the best!!

  • Jody Watley was,and is a great artist. She's great by herself, she's made it clear that she wants no part of a shalamar reunion.Shalamar was a good group though.

  • I was 7 when this song came out. I'll always remember listening to the good stuff and waking up Saturday mornings to watch Soul Train! I really miss the 80s:)

  • JODY IS FIERCE !

  • THIS IS MY FAVORITE MIX OF THIS SONG!!!

  • Turn me on. Turn me out. Make me feel, oh so real...

  • To this day, people still call those Jody Watley earrings...

  • Yes Janet Jackson had to sit back and smile ! She said,' go girl"

  • Totally 80s!

  • Go head Jody! She was awesome when she sung with Shalamar and too tough went she went solo!

  • That primal scream is the scream of an orgasm from the lover. Jody is awesome!

  • oh meee gosh... I still know the words to this song - now that's frightening!

  • That cool Intro drives me nuts. That primal scream: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ahhhhhhh

Turn me on, turn me out!

  • I had the big hair, the red lipstick, and the black clothes. I wanted to be Jodi so BAD! LOL

  • Jody + spadex= I'm in love

  • She was very sexy! I like the 80th's music especially electropop!!

  • omg I remeber she sung this on MTV awards (i think). While the intro played she had dancers dressed like her and each one would get spotlighted but it wasn't her. Then she just came strolling from backstage singing in that white pants suit. Then on the second verse she just slid her wig off and had a hot short cut! I NEARLY DIED!!!It was A MAZING performance!!!

  • @rellenoz Ooo that sounds dope. I will look for that live performance NOW. =^D Thanks.

  • Kick ass video, totally 80's

  • I've always loved Jody Wately! she was right up there wid the Paula Abdul's & the Janet jackson's & Madonna'
