  • Wonder if the original Happy Motoring Song is around somewhere?

  • faulknep1: Back in the sixties, an instrumental version of the "Happy Motoring" song was the actual theme for HNIC. The Doris Claman theme was introduced by CBC in the 1967-68 season. I can't seem to upload the link, but to see it, just run a search on You Tube using these keywords: "Chicago, Toronto, February 11, 1967, Bobby Hull, hattrick"

  • The wonderful thing about sports through the eyes of a child is that they see grown-ups playing a game they play too. It's something that links generations.

  • @Lava1964 Thank you for saying so. Pro athletes are role models, because they set the standards of performance that the children who follow them, will aspire to. I really admire elite athletes who bridge that generation gap and connect with youth.

  • Sends chills down my spine. Watching Saturday night hockey will always be a special memory for me forever.

  • I have this movie on a VHS tape somewhere.

  • @icezebra77 Same here

  • Go you one better: I remember using a US Army sat dish to pick up the feed until informed that half of Germany was getting HNIC on the old Armed Forces network (and not complaining!) Good memories

  • @alcleveland2000 YOU WIN hands down! What an awesome story!

  • toonguy85, a lot of us have those memories. I remember cold fall days and we'd either go into Vancouver to shop or my dad would burn yard waste across the street in the vacant lot. He'd chop firewood for the Saturday night fire and at 4 PM would be the Bugs Bunny show. Then my Mom would make hamburgers or spaghetti and we'd then watch the game to a crackling fire. Miss those days!

  • @ethicomm: Wonderful, isn't it? I've never met you, nor know anything else about you, but I live and breathe that memory!

  • @toonguy85 And there's thousands of people coast to coast who have some story about settling down on Saturday nights to listen to the likes of Warn Cornell, Danny Galivan, Brian MacFarlane and more!
