My german shepherd is retarded lolz. He's gone through 4 doors, 2 cages, and too many toys to count and he's only been with us around 4 months. However I still love him :)
My boyfriend has 2 german shepherds. One of them tried to drag me to his house. He ripped through my sweater, shirt and pants. When my boyfriend tried to "rescue" me, he scratched the hell out of his arm. T_T But I still love him!
My first dog was a German Shepherd named Thor, because he was born on the night of a thunderstorm. I miss him, he was the best friend a 10 year old girl could have.

Ok I have a German shepherd dog and she is the best dog ever.when she was a pup I honestly had a couple problems with her until she was about 4 months old then she quit chewing on EVERYTHING but now she is 7 months old and I have no problems .i spend probably 3 hours a day with her and I never have gotten out of her sight that started when I first got her if u spend at least 3 hours a day they will follow you everywhere and when you go inside she/he will lay there and wait for you to come outsi

The trash can is out in the open and right at his nose level. He never gets into the trash. I only had problems when he was a pup. When I got him, I had him house broken in two weeks. I let him roam the house while I am gone. I think it depends on the dog and there training.

@fearmycomments I understand your eagerness but you should wait. Locking a German Shepherd up all alone in an apartment is torture. They need exercise/attention literally everday, they have tons of energy and are really smart!

When I get home at 5 pm its straight to the park where we run around with a ball or frisbee for an hour or two. @fearmycomments I know a girl who has two GSDs in her apartment. It just depends on how big your apartment is and if you can walk them. BUt I really think a gsd can be a great apartment dog

I'm not a GSD owner whatsoever but i've done my research as im almost at the same position. I've read both sides and i've come to the conclusion that the truth is somewhere in between: as long as it's not a puppy, she can stay alone, for small time periods at the beginning and gradually lengthen them. Even if she stays in an apartment, she can be happy and healthy with a couple of walks and a lot of training, so you ought to have 2-3 hours minimum for her.
@fearmycomments If you leave a Shepherd alone you will come back to find your whole house destroyed. They need alot of exercise, socialization, and mental stimulation to stop them from becoming agressive and board. Leaving them alone all day is just not going to work. Trust me.

I'd take a Belgian shepherd over a German shepherd anyday and after seeing all these videos about German shepherds I'm glad I can justify my choice of the Belgian as my #1 pick dog.
trivia: the Nazis used to train these dogs to eat under their tanks, so when the allied forces landed in Germany, the dogs would run towards the US tanks thinking there was food underneath them. The Germans had strapped explosives to the dogs.
My neighbors had a beautiful, black GSD named Gus and he was a total sweetheart, not an aggressive or mean bone in his body. The only thing bad about the breed is that they tend to get hip dysplasia (that is why Gus had to be put to sleep) and it can be heartbreaking watching them suffer. But they are great dogs.

@shinobimodder - You should start training ASAP. GSD is a strong breed, it can be stubborn and can become aggressive unless they start getting training from early stages itself. As per stubborness of your dog, don't get angry or mad or frustrated, be calm, assertive and have patience ... he will do great :-)

I have had a German Shepherd dog in my life off and on for over 30 years. Currently on my third and in my opinion it is the greatest breed in the world. These dogs are the total package loyal, intelligent, obedient and courageous. I love all dogs but as long as I am physically able to properly care for a dog I will have a German Shepherd. I have had a German Shepherd dog in my life off and on for over 30 years. Currently on my third and in my opinion it is the greatest breed in the world. These dogs are the total package loyal, intelligent, obedient and courageous. I love all dogs but as long as I am physically able to properly care for a dog I will have a German Shepherd.
