@CletusColtrane The reason you don't play the high E is to give it a warmer tone to the chord. Kenny Wayne Shepperd himself has stressed this many times. He says not to play the song as all if you're going to play the high E because it is not right. A song and the way it's played is very important to the artist and song itself. Evem something as little as this, but it's really a big thing because it changes the chord intirely.

According to Kenny Wayne Shepherd, on Guitar Center Sessions, he hates when people try to teach this song on youtube because they always get it wrong. The first chord is not a D Major. You mute the high E string .

DO NOT play the E string like a D major chord. It is an open D string, 2nd fret on G, and 3rd fret on B. No bottom E. I saw a vid of Kenny Wayne Shepherd doing this song and he said that himself. Great video Marty...just didn't hear you say that. Extra tip for everyone looking to learn this great tune.
