I'm a Belgian member of two British train sites: Railword World tv of which I am the admin for the group"railways worldwide" and Steam tube.Could I use these clips for a compilation I'm planning to put on these two sites.I will certainly mention the source!
@darkelfproductions .. ohh.. us kids of the time knew them off by heart.. 34034 Honiton, 34077 603 Squadron, 34088 213 Squadron, 35007 Aberdeen Commonwealth.. to name but a few..
Apple cart upsetting time. Great footage, but here it comes, I think a rebuilt Bullied stripped of name plate AND THE CARRIER, looks great. You are left with a great looking engine. I never did like the rebuilt BB's and WC's where the crest sat above the name plate, it just didn't look right. The MN's and crestless WC's looked just fine.
I remember being around Waterloo in 1967 it was so sad to see the end finally come and to know we would no more see steam running everyday. The dirty run down machines still putting in spirited perfromances from Bournmouth on the newly laid track. I remember seeing Q1 running with chalk on the smoke box saying it was the last of its class and a 3mt with the end is near chalked on it.
@35028ClanlineBulleid Hello, Jon Marsh is currently copying my industrial footage for dvd release that you will be able to buy from the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway Shop, Ffestiniog Railway Shop or Welsh Highland Railway Shop. He will then be doing this film and the Carnforth/Lostock Hall & Rose Grove film to.
Excellent, it brings back memories! I emigrated in 1963 (when I was 8) but I had seen most of the Merchant Navies and the majority of the West Country / Battle of Britain class by then.
I think the 80000 tank class is the nicest looking tank locomotive ever designed.
There's a funny tale to tell about 77014.. most people think it was completely scrapped..me included.. but it wasnt.. There's a great big chunk of it in a guy's garden complete with the absolute proof cos it's cabside number is still very much evident.
Did I see 77014 at an Eastleigh Open Day, with 4472, and maybe a 75XXX and a 76XXX? 'Bout '65, when they were still doing heavy steam overhauls.
Every 6 seconds someone would pull Flying Scotsman's whistle. The queue ran from the driver's side (exit) back round to the fireman's side and onto the footplate. I had about eight goes. If I remember right, it was in aid of a children's charity financed by railwaymen. The smell of swarf off the unattended tyre profiling lathes was real good!
These three fims I Love. As a boxboy from Ramgate to Folkestone jnct power frame(Integra NX Panel) via Hawksbury,Marine,Priory,Ashford-Panel. Bust my leg ..Great memories
I am now very jealous. If you were 14 in '67 then I am the same age as you, but I was living on the ER and main line steam had finished 4 years previously.
I did visit Bournemouth on 64 and 65 while on holiday, plus Eastleigh Open Day 16/8/64, but could not afford a camera, sadly.
All cine film from the sixties brings back happy memories. Thanks very much for sharing them.

A brilliant 26 minutes' worth over the 3 clips. I went through the lot and tried to identify as many locomotives as I could. Here goes:

@zelo1954 ..and did you notice that on the occasion of 34102 slipping that 34023 was in the station too and so close to the end of steam..

Very attractive film. I especially liked the Standard 4 on a milk tanker train, something for my Hornby-Dublo to copy!
Something else that struck me seeing this was that the smaller BR standard tender locos were really rather attractive machines.

Yes, the nameplates were removed and put into storage to deter thieves.

Sad to see all the big Pacifics running without their nameplates and in such poor condition. Great film though.

Great to see 77014. These little 3MTs looked really neat. Does anyone do any models of them?

That is amazing! I wish that the group building the replica 3MT tank had chosen to build the 2-6-0 version. 77020... ?

Lovely piece of nostalgic footage. I was also about your age when steam ended.
During the last days of the southern, I always found it sad to see the bullieds'stripped of their lovely nameplates.
