I was put off this guys playing whenI saw him do the Schulz -evler waltz the tone was hard and who would dare play a Lhevinne specialty if he did not have wondrous tone color. Here he is doing a Horowitz color and phrase specialty. I wish I had da training to know what is required. He plays beautifully here and his Prok # 6 is a marvelous logical statement. I so want to be carried away with his playing. Here he is . Pluperfect tone and phrasing. He really should play Faure

The use of estaccato not original, Horowitz did that for many many years. I like that. The difference is that Horowitz played more with the tempo. He qualifies the piece, brings more movement, more strength at the beginning, decadence, melancholy, and again a serious force, a convición not a dream, and still in love and hurt and we still keep talking. All this is very difficult to achieve and Chiu fails.
The tempo feels perfect. I can't actually decide if I like the pronounced staccato, but I certainly don't dislike it. Beautiful voicing in any event, thank you for the experience!
I would call it a satisfying interpretation, but for me, it's the golden age interpretation of people like rubinstein that does the trick for me,Proxy-Connection: keep-alive

This celebrissim piece of piano is very often played too romantically. The effect is heavy like a cream pie. The interpretation of Chiu is great: sobre, clear, simple: the only way to get to perfection. Only the end is less convincing.
This is very elegant. The singing tone and the way you differ the voices makes me imagine the human voices. But what's really inspiring is the smile they have on their faces as they sing. You do a great service to the art of transcriptions. People even have you confused with FL ;)
Lovely performance of this heavenly Schubert-Liszt transcription. I particularly liked the way you delineated the different voices, suffusing them with their own colour.
lol this IS Liszt fyi!!! The transcription includes the melody moving down one octave, where the hands crossover, then the mirror melody played in two octaves. Also there are some added arpeggios and some octave voice-ings in the left hand that are not in the original, as well as the the extended scale at the end of the piece. One of my favorite Liszt transcriptions by far, he really thickened the tonality and grace of the entire work. Mad props to Schubert, Liszt, and anyone who plays it!
he played it very well... although i don't think he was playing the original version of the piece. I have an authentic copy of the sheet music for Standchen--but nevertheless he did an excellent interpretation of the piece [i do agree that Yamaha is not the best piano though. It lacks a certain richness to its sound]
kirej7, this is the Franz Liszt transcription, that's why it's different from the sheet music you have in your hand. Google Durand, Liszt, Schubert, Ständchen to buy a copy.
The definitive interpretation in my humble opinion is by Horowitz.

Hi ! Just curious ... Are you student of DTS ? Because the technique that you play resemble his technique ... the CRAP moving fingure style way to play legato with other fingures moving....
I love the interpretation of this Serenade!! But the piano's timber its not my favorite! I prefer Steinway and Sons or Shrumberger, or a Beckstein, but this is an impecable interpretation!!
Wow! You really have something like horowitz had. I really love this! Just amazing colours, control and dynamics. Also I fell in love to those delicate thing that you did there. Best version of this piece i've ever heard. I just try to do those things you did there when I play, but I just can't. I almost always play too loud or too quiet for example while playing moonlight sonata mvt 1. Wonderful job!
Oh wow! Beautiful! I've been practicing this song for a recital, but after seeing this, I feel as if I'm butchering it haha. It's not a technically difficult piece to play, but my dynamics are all ditzy! My fingers feel so clumsy. :(
Again, as the others have said, amazing finger control. Inspirational, thanks for posting!
This is a very relaxing version of the beautiful Schubert Serenade. The piano has a very nice soft sound, it does not hurt the eardrums. Or, is it the playing technique that was applied? SIMPLY GREAT! My hats off to you.
This perfemance along with horowitz's are the best here on YouTube. Bravo!!

one cannot hope to compare Horowitz with Chiu.S

@100BucksMovies: Horowitz is a narcissist who treats the piano no more than a toy. Not much soul in his playing; I'm often disappointed.
