How to Deal with Illusionary TV Licence Letters

I do not open the letters anymore. As I do not own a TV, and I only watch the iPlayers or TV shows here on Youtube, I have nothing to worry about. They cannot take me to court because obviously, there is no evidence of a TV at my address. When the TV License guys knocks on my door, I just say; "If you can prove that I have a TV, I will happily pay for a License" That makes them think that you have one, and I hope they waste time sitting outside my house in a van. Fun and games :)

Need advice. Had a call from the TV licence inspector this evening, despite my child was told not to open the door to strangers..the man said he was from parcel force he had a letter to delivered! then asked where the parents were, after my kid said that the parent are at work, he asked for my name and surname and my sweet naive child told him, he happily give her the letter for me.

was he allowed to ask my kid for personal information or he should have come back another time? help advice etc.

awesome job... i've had a sh*t load of hassle from bbc/tvl which at one point really exacerbated the depression i was suffering. the thing that really annoys me is the way they scare vulnerable people into paying for something they don't need, like me when i was unwell.

It's legislation not law and as such requires you to consent to a contract. They are actually committing fraud by trying to coerce you into a contract without your knowledge.

Just remove their implied right of access.....i did it last year....and ive not heard from them since. It means they CANNOT by LAW visit you at your property, or send you letters. They sent me a letter saying they would not approach my property, call, or send me letters but they would use other means to investigate.....maybe they will use their phantom TV scanner vans LOL.

Google "implied right of access" send it to anyone you dont want at your doorstep...debt collectors, tv license etc :P

@nosaj2001 indeed :) No one has an assumed right to approach your property except for the postman and strangers...looking for directions etc. You can remove anyones implied right of access by a simple notice being sent to the person or company you dont want at your door. I sent one to the BBC months ago, they replied saying they accept i have removed their implied rights and wont come again.

It works and its withing the law...in the UK at least :)

With the government cuts to pay those who run the world biting, I see more and more people doing this, I have done it myself. Refused For Cause works wonderfully. Remember its a Act and not a Law you have the Lawful right under Common Law not to consent to their Acts.

Anyone knocking at your door, don't contract with them by creating joinder. That means telling them No Mr or Mrs or Ms (legal Fiction) lives there. When they ask for your name refuse to give them a name. They can't do nothing.

After nearly 8 years without a licence they're at it again sending harassing letters requesting we contact them to update their records. Naturally we haven't sent any letters back or confirmed any of the details they deceptively imply they have a right to know. If they come callin' they be given short shrift at the door and I have briefed the Home Team about how to deal with them. Why would they think I'd want to pay to watch shite anyway? Keep it up everyone and fight the power!

i got one of those red intimmidating letters the other day saying that if i don't pay their going to send the "enforcment officers" round, fuck i'm scared lol. I also got a call from them and i also refused to confirm any details, they tried everything to get my name even offerd me a refund, but that didn't wash. I wouldn't mind so much, but i wrote to them ages ago telling them i don't need nor want a licence and they told me i wouldn't get any letters for 2 years, 4 days later i got a letter.

Yeah I've had a few of these letters, They come round in batches for the flats at uni and they go straight in the bin with out being opened. Always know its them because they send one to "flat 10" funny, there are only 9 flats.

@ws1a37 They were up at my door 2 months ago. I ignored them. I watched them thru the spyhole knocking doors asking questions. Probably to get naive people to give information on me. Disgusting. Then I get the letters all over again threatening to come up. They have been opening an investigation on this flat since 2008. I know the previous tennants. The whole thing's a joke when you know how to handle it.
