There was some crime when I was there in the '70s and '80s. Not rampant crime, but things related to domestic disputes, alcohol, and drugs. You would get the occasional murder--and gruesome when it occurred. Yes, when compared to the ugly world out there, the levels are a lot lower, but it wasn't (and I suspect that it still isn't) perfect...
too bad the mexicans and niggers are ruining it. crime has gone way up. i left because of the winters, but it will always be in my heart. I grew up in Ishpeming tho born on K.I.
well either your one of them or you just dont see. i remember leaving my doors unlocked and maybe even my garage door open when i went out of town. do that now and see what happens. i still own a lot of land up there and will always call it home, i just like whats happening up there.
i apoligize for it. it makes me lose my mind whats happening to god country up there. and you wouldhave to be blind not to see the cause. its not a stereotype if its ture.
i agree meth is a big issue up there. but who brought it there to begin with? think of that. just think 10 years ago what was the biggest crime? minor in possesion of alchohol?
Your racist attitude does nothing but perpetuate the kind of situations you're describing. Big bad nigger brought meth to the upper peninsula and ruined it, huh? Go fuck yourself, you scared, ignorant piece of shit. This comment might be as just as hateful as yours was, but at least it's targeted and warranted.
I go to school at NMU. Couldn't imagine attending college anywhere else. Great people and outdoors combine to make one of the best kept secrets around. Marquette will always hold a place close to my heart.
I went to school in Marquette at Northern Michigan University back in the 1980s. If you're not into the out-of-doors or you seriously dislike cold weather, you have no business living there.
If fishing in the summer, hunting in autumn, and cross-country skiing in winter is your idea of excellent recreation, then you've come to the right place.
haha i live near marquette. i love our area so much (: and anyone who disses our area, obviously doesn't know how beautiful it is and how great the people are.
An Ode to those who helped create this video, as you did a wonderful job! a true video to make your eyes wet, especially if you know what your looking at as i do. Marquette is truly a beautiful place, and you will get a few occasianal mean people but if you do as much as hold a door for somebody, you will earn their respect. How can you not like it!?! it is truly a beautiful place. Thank you "spacewrangler"!!!!!!!
I spent so much time there that now that I've been away for a while and kind of are looking at the town through someone else's eyes, I realize the odd architecture that I never noticed. It's probably because I've been in that fekkin' courthouse too many fekkin' times!
A place for a new start - to have ruined other peoples lives - can escape to this nicely isolated area and make new friends - perhaps screw up thier lives as well
I'm glad to learn that so many have had better better experiences with Marquette folk than I have. It is most certainly a beautiful town physically. Just my bad luck to run into all the wrong people, I guess.
Marquette, and the rest of the UP, for that matter, is a beautiful place. My folks live in Ironwood, which isn't nearly as pretty as Marquette, but close enough to the great Lake Superior to make it a great place to live. The winters are too harsh for me, but they certainly do make you appreciate the mild summers. I cannot think of a better place than Marquette to spend a summer, or the two weeks of autumn before the winter, lol.
Thank you for such a beautiful video of Mqt. I miss it a lot. I moved to Dallas after graduating from NMU to get my doctorate in chiropractic and love the hot weather but miss the slower pace of life the scenery and the people. This video made me remember how wonderful the UP is. oh and "snotty"? HA!!! try coming to Dallas LOL

I lived and worked in Marquette for a year. Found the people generally rather snotty and cold. For U.P. towns, give me the down-to-earth Escanaba or Sault Ste. Marie anyday.
To be treated upon arrival as the proverbial "turd in the punchbowl" will do it.
I do have a few very dear friends in Marquette, and as I have mentioned, it is a beautiful little town. Upper Michigan is one of the best-kept secrets in the US, in my opinion. I regret that a few residents of Marquette have represented their lovely community so poorly.
It is typically COLD in Marquette. Definitely. Cold air makes for runny noses, so yeah... Snotty. Maybe you should visit in the summer when the people are warm and sweaty.
uh, have you seen the other videos of marquette set to music on youtube?? they are ridiculous. your production blows them away and the music is tasteful. finally; good job

I haven't seen crime stats, but to use the racist terminology is uncalled for. yoopers are kinder and gentler than that.

I suppose crime could be up... true... and also poor white yooper kids on meth might be stealing to get more drugs for all we know...
I hope the UP doesn't get spoiled.
