In watching this video of Janet Paparelli's studio space, the quality that often comes to my mind is "artistic courage." That's evident in her compostitions where one big form dominates, in her joyous use of color and pattern and her very free pencil drawings that encorporate childred's work. The red rectangle in one of her painting recalls Rothko, but her's is more lively and jazzy. She conveys her feeling for the texture of paint with sureness..--Charles Bernstein
