  • Chinesemunk is right!! These are great for water landings. I will try it out with my helicopter too!!!

  • food sealer?? they work like magic :D

  • If a heli looked like that .........i'd have to get it examined it by someone at AREA51;)

  • very smart.. good for when u want to do water landings. just a thought, lol. but good idea.

  • and do they float?

  • dude what state do you live?

  • i dont have a sealer can i just melt it with a soldering iron and then let it dry????

  • if you dont have a sealer you can try an old trick i used in the early years of modeling,

unscrew the soldering nib and insert a peice of piano wire or an old flybar aslong as the length is the same size or longer than the peice you wanna seal,

screw it in the place the soldering nib goes then heat up the soldering iron then place the wire over the part to be seald, and pres down with a heat resistaint object , a few secs later take it of and viola done!

  • you can also use this method for cutting foam peices for depron of foamies or even foam wing parts,

it only works for a few inches and if you have a big cutting job then use a longer wire and add another soldering irin to the oposit end

we used this for a cheap home built foam cutter

worked a treat and should work to seal the float too, :)

  • i dont have a heat sealer. can i use one of those balsa covering irons to make the float?

  • you should make a vid with the floaties on the bottom as floats for the water that'd be cool

  • I finally found the orange float making vid.I love it.Now a trip to dollar tree.Oph's no pool stuff in December. Not in Ohio. What are they thinking. Selfish stores could care less about the safety of are helicopters.

  • The switch on the left is not a throttle hold, it is the idle up switch... To my knowledge this TX doesn´t have any throttle hold switch. In fact it´s a basic safety feature it should have.

  • @HeliBenj Isn't that the same thing...... idle up and throttle hold? I have a Blade CP+ and I assumed that when I flipped that switch..........You flip the switch and the the throttle idles up and holds for 3D flying...........????????

  • i used mini bottles for my helicopter since i have no float thing

  • how much is for the food sealer

  • we fly a lot in low light. LEDs at the end of the tail and fron of each skid, along with main rotors with glowing tips. works great. i'd think that would cause quite a bit of air resistance.... does it sap battery life?

  • I wonder if you left them longer if they could be used as floats to actually land on water. They seem a bit short for that as you made them, but maybe if you made them longer?

  • wouldn't do much better but a 3rd shorter float than the 2 he used would need to be attached near the tail blade but also suspended at the same horizontal level as the other 2 floats. once all leveled they should float and prevent the tail from sinking into the water but.... getting that 3rd float on requires some modding.

  • put helium in those

  • It's beautiful where your at.

I live in Florida I miss the snow:(

    Florida stinks!

  • safesinger---snow stinks

  • wouldnt the floats add say air resistance to the helicopter?

not to say that anyone would WANT to go too fast but for efficentcy and how much power the helicopter would use, you could be looking at about 3 mins less flying time. especially in windy days

  • Your video production skills are pretty crazy too Dave -- love to watch your stuff man! You're the RC dude!!!

  • thanks bro u good bro

  • topic reminds me of my own "stealth copter"! i dropped mine into a cornfield and now its gone. searched it for hours but coulnd find it. have to wait for harvest. lol.

i try those pads next time. hope that could help. and i'm thinking of some sort of detection-alarm as well :)

    greets from germany

  • Did you cut at 6.25 inches for the Blade 400 too ?

If not, can you tell me the lenght.

  • I'd seen some of your other videos and wondered where you got the floats. I'm glad I found this video, I'll probably be making a set of these!

  • Thanks. IT helps me, for sure.

  • what is that magic machine you got, I could really really take help of that

  • is that a esky??

  • Yes, CP2

  • how long do u charge a 2channel rc helicopter nightflyer thanks

  • About 45 minutes, usually to refill the battery.

  • Nice idea, but wouldn't those floaters make the heli more unstable in windy conditions from catching more side winds?

Also, about your throttle hold comment.. That switch is idle-up, not throttle hold. Ie, the motor is always running at full throttle regardless of stick position, and you have negative pitch available at below center stick. Throttle hold would be the opposite, motor always at zero rpm regardless of throttle stick. I don't think e-sky has throttle hold though. I haven't tried any.

  • I set my throttle hold switch to 100 percent, not idle, so in my case it is throttle hold at high throttle. That allows a constant speed, also without the 3d switch on. In the old days, there was only 1 switch and it was always called throttle hold.

  • Try filling them with helium ... hehehe

  • LOL.

  • geez where do you live???? its very cold there!!

  • Iowa USA. It is 90 today. LOL.

  • The way i did it was instead of using a food sealer you can mark a 1 cm line of the edge of the floatand then just melt the rubber on the line you made with a hot glue gun tip and hold until seled

  • Good idea. thanks.

  • Stealth ??? sorry but nothign stealth about this, nice flying but your video title is way off

check out some of my RC videos

  • Dude, its a play on words type of thing.

  • True. very true.

  • Duh. Helicopters are very difficult to see, with no wings, hence the name.

  • What do you recommend?

A electric helicopter or a benzine?

  • Gas helis are heavier, have more mass and fly better, but Electric is clean and easy to setup and go fly. Do you already know how to fly good?

  • Yes but i'm still practise

  • how you setted up your lipo battery in the copter?..i mean all u did was pull the wire and it came on LOL , i have to take off the canopy and connect the wire , put the canopy back on and all that crap. can you show me how you done it?.. thnx

  • Honeybees, the wires hang out. My other ones, I have to remove the canopy too.

  • You should have landed in a bucket of water or something =(

  • ive been using these installments for a year now with great success. thanks!

  • Thanks much.

  • Thanks for all the video's. I really appreciate them. I have one question that I have not seen here? How do the floats affect the aerodynamics and flight stability. I have a Honeybee FP and a Blade 400. Will the floats affect the flicht characteristics?

  • Oh, maybe slightly, but I trim to compensate all my helis and have been putting these on for 30 years now. I have them on my Blade 400 and Blue Ray too. Those helis don't care, that is for sure.

  • NF, thanks for leading me on to this Vid, very helpful!

What kit is that? heli wise.

Also that throttle up switch i had on a old one i cut it to a snub... i was scared id flip the switch haha.

    Smitty

  • Your welcome. This is a Honeybee CP2. Good idea about the switch. Thanks.

  • honey bee can be used for training, is not such an expensive heli and you can fly on simulator.

  • So true.

  • Thank you SOOOO much for all of your videos, I LOVE watching them! I have a Falcon 40 and a Honeybee. I just ordered a Blade 400 and am counting the days until it arrives. I am definitely going to make your floaties. You may want to sell them on ebay or to heli websites. Not everyone has the time or a food sealer. I am in ND, you are in SD, right? I hope you are not underwater! :)

  • Your welcome. You can use an iron too. I'm in Iowa, but go to SD every week in Sioux Falls to roller skate. I still have over 400 emails to answer today, so I don't think I will be making Orange pontoons anytime soon. LOL. Good luck up there in the North.

  • Great vids. Trying to see how you have the rear ping pong setup. I broke my vertical shaft on the tail my first flight. What is the triangle looking piece. I crazy glued the piece back on, but I want the tail end like yours. Please explain in detail how you made it please. Thank You

  • It is just some fibre rods glued to the existing rod, and a ping pong boll in the middle. I used a broken landing gear to make it.

  • AFPD In the begining?

  • Yes.

  • ok i know how to make them because i need some for outdoor flying with my reflex but witch do you prefer the floats or ping pong balls?

  • Reflex cannot be flown outdoors very well at all, as it has no cyclic head steering. It would not lift these floats. I only use pontoons on mine as that looks more realistic. Never saw a real heli with Pingpong balls. LOL.

  • XD with a cam and goggles you can Fly indeed ^^

But youre right i crasht a few models to becouse i didn't see it right

    Love youre work

    Cya

  • LOL Thanks kindly. Keep practicing...

  • Hail from Greece. Nice Trick, thanks,i have also been told to paint the edges of the rotor blades white so i can see where the limits of my rotor are.

Can it float on calm water with these floats?

By the way i have ordered the walkera hm 5#10 from xheli(.)com

  • Welcome Greece. Well the painted tips are great for on the ground, but in the air, you need to watch the nose for best results. That is a great looking heli.

Hope it works good for you.

  • Do I need to balance it on a scale?

  • No.

  • Im going to try to make these tomorrow, i do have pretty good vision but as a beginner i get disorientated really quick, i hope these will help a bit especially as these little helis get even smaller real quick lol.

I dont have a food bag sealer either so i am going to try with an iron.

Nice idea dave i just searched for this vid to find out what they are after seeing them in your other vids ;)

    Keep on innoventing :)

  • Thanks and good luck. They should help, and we all can use it.

  • hiya Dave just had a tiny idea for modding your pontoons ;) how about uv green on the righthand side instead of orange? then you could tell which way round you were ;) also i would like to correct your title abit with the advance in tech that we use you dont actually need to see the heli to fly it ;) FPV mate thats what all them gadgets are on my builds and as long as you can see where ya going seeing the heli isnt essential anymore :D

  • Your right, red and green would be best for flying as in night lights too. I work in RPV consulting for the Military, and your right, you don't need to see them. But for old fashioned rc flying like most of us do, I still need to see it and especially the beginners long before they will understand the gadgets.

  • do you ever get to fly military grade rc models? and how far ahead of us would you say thier toys are? is there any chance you could make a vid for us to compare what ever isnt classified so to speak? would be nice to hear some of your experiences on the subject ;)

  • I got out before getting to fly anything in production, but have flown others, including stuff that can land like a fly and even crawl up walls. I cannot really go into anything else, as I am sworn to secrecy on my projects, which I'm sure you can understand.

  • First what? The First real helicopter of is my Honeybee CP2.

  • what is the point of this vid?

  • Come on! It is to make your model helicopter easier to see. Didn't you watch it all the way through?

  • it could float like that

  • Yes, it will.

  • Thanks Great Vid

    Helped alot

    THANK YOU

  • Thanks kindly. Happy flying.

  • it helps i bet i dont have a helicopter though but i might get 1 soon... and ill use this trick if i need it thx alot.

  • What can I do if I haven't any food sealers? :S

  • Try the hot tip of a Clothes Iron.

  • thank you

  • lol that guys a jerk haha but nice video u can use those as floats to haha but im sure u new that lol but i learned a little from this vid thanx :]

  • Thanks. I appreciate your comments.

  • srry old man but ppl arent blind like u we can actually see

  • be fucking nice at least he comes up with stuff

  • Thanks.

  • Shame on you. You have no respect for older folks? My sight was good years earlier. You just wait! Besides I can fly the socks off you.

  • dickhead

  • yea but not fly

  • Nice idea!!tks for the 5 stars.I want to buy a beltcp ($155 and adding the metal head and tail, the headlock giro, and xtra battery cost around $400) I read good comments about it exept the non exponential controls, but find a video that hack the radio with some resistors and fix the problem...what is opinion about it.

  • Thanks. Unless you already know how to hover and fly around, All the exponential foo foo will really mean nothing, as only 4% of the people actually can learn to hover. My opinion is before you start worrying about addons, etc., learn to hover without ever crashing. There are no magic bullets for heli flying, since they are like flying a ball bearing in space. Once it starts moving, it takes moving all 7 controls all at once to just get stopped, let along get it back. Gyros & expos dont help.

  • what helicopter would you reccomend for a beginner? i was gonna get a honey bee but i thought i would spend too much money on repairs.

  • Get the Blade MCX and enjoy your experience. See my vidoes on it and good luck.

  • ok thank u sir

  • what do u think of the v3 lama i ordered one and i dont know what to expect i was just curious wut u might have to say? plz reply

  • Congrats. It is a great little coaxial. Have fun with it and study my 9 heli tips.

  • hahaa

    i wil carsh it

  • could you land on water;if u could that would be cool

  • Yes I could land it on water and have my honeybees land in the birdbath in one of my other videos. LOL. The tricky part is not letting the tail rotor hit the water, as it instantly flips the heli over and it usually wrecks the electronics.

  • nice floats i'm planning to make my own for the honey bee but iwas wondering on my cp2 i find it hard to secure the batteryi've tryed rubber bands. What do u use dave?

  • Thanks. Yep, I use the rubber bands too. But wound up using a thing strip of Duct tape. I charge the battery in the heli and dont remove it. My battery had to be as far forward as possible to balance correct, so the tape works best.

  • so you keepinside the canopy

  • Under the canopy, on the battery mount as far forward as it will go.

  • is that aero fly pro your using. if so how do you find it next to the real thing. i find it a bit to easy. but flying a real one is much harder

  • I used to work for Real flight and also have G4. Aerofly won all the top awards for the best graphics and flight physics against all of the others. See the Model Airplane magazines to see all the awards they won. Besides you can download hundreds of backgrounds and airplanes for free on their webiste. I turn up the wind and gusts on mine to make it more difficult to fly, like real life. Try that.

All sims are easy because there is no "Pucker factor" and crashing is painless.

  • thats a realy great idea never thought about that thx

  • Thank you very much. It works for me.

  • thas cool¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ i like all this ,:D

  • Thanks kindly.

  • where do you get all these rc planes an helicopters from?

  • After flying for over 50 years, I have accumulated lots from hobby stores or I hand built them.

  • cool could you give me eny tips on how to build one

  • Build one what? If your talking about a plane, it is best to buy a small balsa kit with electric motor and learn that way first. Also see my video Junkyard Dog, How to make your own rc plane.

  • i sure enjoy all your vids. very clever guy. thanx for taking the time to make vids. blue thunder rocks. nice floats.

  • Thanks very kindly. I appreciate your comments.

  • you live in a realy nice area, you live in america right?

  • Thanks, it is nice here in the Midwest, USA.

  • put helium xD

  • Haha.

  • Cool looking idea! Thanks! Im a noob to helicopters but have been flying fixed wing since 91. Im learning heli on a Nine Eagles Night Eagle. I have a Honeybee heli that I bought about 4 years ago, but gave up on it because I never could get it to fly, it always got off the ground, hovered for a second, then went into a wild gyration and crashed. So, for years I was hesitant to buy another low dollar ele heli, but have been super pleased with my nine eagles!!

  • Thanks. Study my 9 heli flying tips for more.

  • if it was set up right could it float

  • It does float.

  • Thank you very much Mr. Herbert I appreciated.

    Regards

  • Nice video too! Can you make a video for lights or "led's" for helicopters if you have the time? Would like to see something about them, keep up the good work!

  • Thanks kindly. I have many videos on the light setups for planes, even on my Firebird and Zero.

Also the opening video that starts playing automatically on my home page, shows lots of night flying lights, etc. Thanks again for your comments.

  • Hi. Mr. Herbert Could u tell me what kind of heli is this?

  • This is an Esky Honeybee CP2.

  • do you think this would work with a sky fly (rc trainer)? awesome video.

  • Its sure worth a try. Thanks for your kind comments.

  • thanks

    your welcome

    lol

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPS I forgot to mention that it was a plane wow sorry do you still think it will work?

  • will it float?

  • Yes. One of my videos shows me landing it in water. Not sure which one.

  • Holy crap i thought this was real lol

  • It is real....

  • real flight g3.5?

  • I used Aerofly to make this video, not real Flight. I have them both, however.

  • Great, that was something new,you are a creative guy

    Thanks

  • Thanks very kindly. I appreciate that.

  • dude u come with awsome video's!

  • Ha ha. Thanks very kindly...

  • NIce tip!

  • Thanks very much.

  • I really appreciate all your videos. I bought a honey bee and it will be my first RC. It should arrive may 02.

  • Great! I appreciate your comments. Study my 9 heli tips before you get started, and take your time. Keep me posted.

  • you wana know what funny my grandma has the exact food dealer hahaah thanxs for telling me also could you place them under the legs for soft landings

  • Ha ha. Well you can make some for sure. Yes, you could put them under, but they may not look like floats but may help.

  • haha i will try that it sould help mt terable landings

  • this is a great tip thanks. i wanna add proper inflatable floats to my 450 size heli and this looks like the way to go. you are a genius mate lol

  • Thanks kindly.

  • GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTT.

    i can buy them for 15 euro'n

  • Thanks.

  • i do not have a food sealer is there a different way to do that step?

  • Hmmm. Maybe an Iron set on low. Practice on the throwaway Parts you cut off til you find the right temperature.

  • the bottles are too heavy for the 4#3 fo I fave made some styrofoam ones. With the bottles the heli only went about 1 foot off the ground at full throttle. but the styrofoam look like its gunna work!!!

  • Good luck.

  • i made some for my 4#3 today. I didnt make it out of your water wings but I made them out of little bottles.I used 2 water bottle caps glued together for the tail. I will get a video soon, I am waiting on a new flybar. Soon i will make the floaties for the falcon for the snow. hope to hav a video within a week.

  • Great! I will look forward to seeing your video on it. The bottle is a good Idea.

  • ill try and make some of those floats.Ill either try them on my walkera 223, falcon 40, or walkera 4#3.With the 4#3 I could land in a bath tub:)

  • Great. Make sure to put a ping pong ball on the tail, because if the tail rotor hits the water like in my First electric helicopter video, you saw what happens. Ill look forward to your video.

  • lets see a video of it landing and takin off from water. Your a good pilot, You can do it!!!

  • I just did one...See my video on "the first Electric heli. It is just as easy to fly off water with a heli. I will make another video when it isn't so cold. All the water is frozen here now. LOL.

Also see my video, "This Honeybee has balls".

I land and take off in water on that one too.

  • Can you do that on planes.

  • I have friends who put big orange floats on planes and it sure makes it easier to see.....not as fast, but you sure can see them.

  • WOW...Thats so interesting. It could float on water!

  • Yes it does float on water, but the tail rotor is really close.

  • awesome as ever. keep doing your greate job. that thing could land on water?

  • Thank you kindly.

  • very good idea dave and i just noticed the name "nightflyyer" is simular to "nightrider" lol ,very god series back in the day, my dad use to download em, anyway, back to the helis, can i ask, if u can make a vid on the helicopter to go upsidown, because ive heard u say it, but not do it, and i dont think it can go on its back, so seeing is believing, it would be very nice if you could make a vid on it, if u dont want to, please dont, u may crash it.! thanks dave

  • Thanks. This helicopter is not very good upside down with an ETRM, so I do not do it....but neither do real ones. LOL!
