  • I remember this from the 80's. I started nursing in 1986. I remember taking care of what seemed to be at first healthy young people only to see them fade away. I saw things I will never forget.

I am so so glad to see the progress with the new anti-viral drugs for AIDS. Patients no longer have to feel they have a death sentence. Read the book, "And The Band Played On' or see the movie "Philadelphia". Remember it is still a deadly disease and not to be taken lightly. Prevention is the way to go.

  • is this true story :O that is amazing.. im doing an assignment about hiv aids and i found this

  • @MeNyouNuss you should talk about the Michael David Weiss for your assignment. Adam and Mark Kassen directed a movie called Puncture based on a case Weiss pursued on the dangers of contaminated syringes. h t t p : / / w w w . y o u t u b e . c o m / w a t c h ? v = j b a T N 0 P c 6 b Q

  • Beautiful.

  • nobody cares about aids anymore, except in the 70s....derp

  • @Cheeseninja12 AIDS was first discovered in the 1980s you chimp, not the 70s

  • IMPORTANT: Dr Zhilei Chen found a compound that destroys the HIV. She and Texas A&M University are trying to create a preventive cure. Although this compound haven't been tested on humans yet is at least one step closer to erradicating this disease. Sorry for my bad english

  • Leah, with her group Firehorse, have created a full-length version of this song: 'If You Don't Want To Be Alone' it's from their latest album "And so they ran faster ..."

The album was released on 27 September 2011

  • @75frenchtoast thank you for mentioning - isn' t it the most poweful song. We are so blessed that she created it for our commercial. Doesn't it just remind us what compassion really is. Thank you

  • @thetopsyfoundation I liked this song so much when I first heard it, I'm really glad there's a full version, it goes so beautifully with the video, it underpins such a powerful message too. With the aids/hiv being just so devastating in southern Africa it's really good to see this, full of compassion, like you said.

  • of course it can be reversed! ...when u stop taking the meds.

there is no such thing as AIDS. it's just a lie to make people slowly kill themselves when taking the meds. it's one of the plans to reduce population!!! (NWO)... wake the fuck up!

  • @ays1988 Lol of the week. You sir are a genius.

  • My Mother and Step Father have AIDS. In '06/'07 my Mother was very close to death. She looked exactly like this. But she made an amazing recovery. My Step Father actually passed away May 2011 from AIDS. He also looked like this when he passed. :| I wish there was a cure. RIP Dad. x3

  • Read what the video says there is no cure for aids. But like the vid says the effects can be reversed.

  • wow, glad she got better

  • The pictures, the message, the music.

Combined: One of the most touching videos ive ever seen on YouTube.

  • oh my... so this going to happen to a person with AIDS =(

  • DO they have cure for aids now?

  • @uaw0782 i don't think you can cure aids because its a virus, you can't cure a virus you're body has to fight and kill it by itself but im sure they have treatments to help you're body fight it

  • @uaw0782 they do but they're too scared to try it on human :(

  • dammmnnn :O

  • LOL!!!

  • She has a beautiful kind smile :)

  • was she taking AZT? Was she Properly nourished?what type of infection did she have? was she treated for that?

  • Did anyone else notice Selinah's nice legs? Im so happy for her this made me sad and happy.

  • who sings this song? They sound really familiar.

  • @Soorkh Leah Siegel, but the song remains unreleased.

  • @Soorkh Leah Siegel, but the song remains unreleased.

  • God continue to Bless this woman with more years to come....

  • omfg i cried whilst watching this...

  • i thought there was no cure?

  • This video is beautiful. Beautiful message, beautiful song.

  • View, Safe Sex In A Bottle, on YouTube

  • Omg! I love u Medicine!

  • Congrats on the One Show Gold, well done to all!

  • Yea, MARSHA WHITE 7005 Eaton APT.4 C

  • <3

  • WHY IS THIS NOT AN ADVERT ON TELLY??!!!

  • Damn.

  • this is so incredible! if i and us do it we have to do.

  • Thank you catholic church for teaching these people in Africa not to wear condoms.

  • @DunkleWurzlen the catholic church teaches people not to have sex before marriage. if nobody in africa had sex before marriage, AIDS would hardly be an issue. if these people want to have sex they are doing so at their own risk. AND i dont know why you think that everyone in africa is catholic. AND the catholic church allows for condoms to be used within marriage IF someone is at the danger of grave illness. so shut your mouth until you know what you are talking about.

  • @adman14113 Christianity is now one of the two most widely practised religions in Africa, and most adherents outside Ethiopia are Roman Catholic or Protestant. The most poor places in africa are lead by these two religions. Second, you're naive enough to think that people will actually wait until marriage, so they can have sex? Hilarious! How old are you? Five?

Sometimes people should sit back and think "Hey, what if my precious religion isn't that divine as they say they are?"

  • @DunkleWurzlen It's not only spread by sex.. intravenous drug use is actually more risky.

  • @adman14113 Besides, places where people cant barely afford food, do you think that they're going to afford condoms, in order to "go to hell", as 'baby' killers? What instead if catholic church get all its influence, and

spread the "use condoms" stuff, but more than that, use a little share of its billionar annual gain (which no taxes are encharged) to distribute food and condoms in a continent where something like 60% of the population is contaminated.

  • @adman14113 Instead of blindly cover the back of your all-sweet catholic church, why don't you go out of this little pink world of fantasy where you live? Problems are more complex than "if they we're married, wouldn't have aids". Or "if they fuck, that's their issues". Well, if politicians weren't dishonest, the tv cable were cheaper, some priests weren't pedophiles, if hittler were never borned, if asians were taller it would really be a different place. But it's not. Things are not easy.

  • downloaded this video to play this backward

  • 1:36 of an enpowering story. I cant even tell you the feeling I had watching the ending.

  • May i use the likeness of this video in one of mine?>

  • wow, very powerful

  • Oh man

This makes my sad and happy at the same time

    damn

  • That's probably the first video i've ever seen, in 18 years being on the internet, that tear appart a tear off my eye.

  • The Day they have Robert Gallo and the rest of the AIDS Industry criminal enterprise in handcuffs on CNN, you'll run and hide and ERASE every cached evidence of this type of bologna.

EVERYONE knows that Antiretroviral Drugs are Life-threatening death pills !

People are so damned blind to this fraud.

  • why 4 ppl dislike this ...

  • Woah I must say that the ending caught me by surprise, what a great way to bring attention to a great cause.

  • wow, very touching

but i am surprised at some of the negative things that ppl say even on a video such as this...It says alot about your character *smh*

  • Ronald J. Favorited this; It's why I'm here.

  • @koji8123 that is very cool. It's so good how people share the good stuff!

  • Okay, it's not very clear that this is actually PLAYING BACKWARDS. If you're going to present information you should do so in a clear and straight-forward manner. I was expecting to see start out bad and get better, instead of what you have here, which employs a film technique to generate some kind of "twist" at the end. It was very confusing if you weren't paying close attention to the text, which wasn't very large to begin with.

  • @phubans It says Day 90 at the bottom of the video at the onset and Day 1 at the end. There's a certain amount of poetic beauty in doing it this way. We're compelled to empathize with the withering woman we see at the end, but we realize there's hope for her after all. The video is done with thought and care for all the other victims of this terrible disease. I hope this video empowers them with HOPE as well.

  • @phubans your clearly stupid then if you weren't aware that this was playing backwards. I'm not trying to offend you in any way, but you must accept that only someone with learning difficulties would not understand or appreciate this video.

  • @graveey ROFL, it's "YOU'RE" you stupid fucking idiot. At least learn how to use contractions properly if you're going to call someone stupid. I made a mistake, you're just an idiot.

    Fail.

  • Comment removed

  • little does everyone know this woman was their 8th candidate as the rest didnt make it through the 90 days

  • Keep doing what you are doing Topsy Foundation, inspiring commercial. Best wished from Sweden.

  • OMG thats sooo sad!! why would anyone say ONE LESS NIGGER ?? shes a beautiful woman not, as you say, A DIRTY DISEASED MONKEY THAT WASTES RESOURCES OF THIS PLANET !! We need more videos like this to let people know that Obama will cure AIDS!!!

    Obama 2012

  • @o0ooloo0o Obama will cure AIDS, really? Good luck with that.

  • It's preventable

  • wow who's her personal trainer? who ever he is he needs to make her lay off the cardio and start lifting the weights.

  • What has amazed me from the comments on this video is the fact that so many people are completely unaware of the fact that there are many drugs available for people with HIV and have been for for some years.

The point of this video is to raise awareness of the fact that although these life saving drugs have been created they are not widely available in third world countries because of the cost involved. Charities like Topsy need donations so these drugs can be made available to EVERYONE.

  • @scotti2427 I got told in sv=chool that they're are no cures to AIDS, only ways to slow down the effects :(

  • @CovertHID, a full transfusion and bone marrow transplant will remove it from your body. This kind of surgery is profoundly expensive and painful. google it.

Also, injesting hemp oil is a great way to treat it. Google "pheonix tears."

  • HIV vam be very deasly

  • Does anyone else think they should get rid of the "Day #" counter at the beginning? The unbelievable strength of the message depends on people assuming that the video starts on the 1st day, but that will be lost on anyone observant enough to notice the counter at the bottom (although I didn't, and this brought tears to my eyes).

  • Well, she's got better at the end but they should've give her some food

  • This video is amazing. Unfortunately, I don't think some people understand that it is going backwards from day 90 when she looks healthy to day 1 when she first takes the medicine. She is not dying--she is doing better.

  • I watched the video and wondered why I was watching this woman die. When it ended and the realization hit me, I was overcome with hope. Amazing video and amazing woman. Purely touching and genius.

  • what type of medicine makes you more sick?

  • Genious.

  • Jesus Christ! When it hit me what that last little bit MEANT, i burst out crying! WOW. Incredible!

  • This is what commercials should be like.

  • This brought a tear to my eye, but then that tear of sadness turned into hope and joy.

  • Leah Siegel - Human --> is the name of the song, not released yet!

  • I think a lot of people don't get it that the first scene is Selinah as she is now after her dramatic recovery and that then we are taken back daily to the first day she started taking her life changing treatment. She is alive and well! A big up to the brilliant Topsy Foundation!

  • Clicked on this link cause I follow @hillharper on twitter.........he posted it!

  • @Cuchino51 Fantastic!!! thank you very much for continuing the message ...

  • @thetopsyfoundation Without a doubt! Topsy is an amazing foundation!!

  • RIP

  • @MrNintendocollecter she didn't die! She's alive and living as normal a life as she can!

  • @Cuchino51 Oh realy sorry if my comment felt hurtfull i thought there was no cure and nothing could be done for aids patients so is there treatment for this now hope so i cant imagine this happening to a member of my family

  • @MrNintendocollecter Technically in the world of medicine, there's still no permanent "cure" for AIDS or HIV, but millions of people are LIVING with HIV and there even some who have full blown AIDS who are living one day at a time. Selinah, the lady in this video, took part in a program called TOPSY where she underwent the ARV treatment and she's now living and continuing to survive! Btw, my excitement was about her LIVING, not you saying rest in peace.....no worries!

  • @MrNintendocollecter yes, she did not fie. In fact today Selinah is alive and well and one of Topsy's strongest champions - telling others of the live-saving power of ARVs and the care that Topsy provides in South Africa's desperately poor rural communities

  • gods not sleeping

  • it almost seems like they deliberately left her without treatment

  • @imgordonfreeman Selinah was very gravely ill when she came to us - as you have seen, and I can promise you that we gave her immediate treatment and care. Part of the goodness of this commercial is that it shows people that they don't have to hide away and get to that point without getting help.

  • @imgordonfreeman

I don't think you got the whole "going backwards in time" The first image is the last day, not the first day

  • @imgordonfreeman The vid was playing backwards...

  • @imgordonfreeman what dya mean? she got treatment...duh, thats why she got better lol, eh u confuse me

  • @imgordonfreeman The flim goes backwards. So day 90 is actually 90 days Selinah has been on meds, not 90 days of wasting before they gave Selinah meds.

  • lindo!

  • HIV causes aids right SHEEPLE?

  • made me cry, was absolutely brilliant! i thought when people got like that there was no hope for them and though there was only prevention not an actual cure. shows im wrong. was a brill ad!

  • @pslgreg I think your comment is a little offhanded. What if she was raped? What if she got infected from a blood transfusion? And what makes you think that she's going to spread the disease? What is brave, is that she didn't give up hope. What is brave is that she let cameras in to film her while looking her absolute worst. This clip is to AIDS victims that they can survive with the right antiviral medication.

  • amazing video, one amazing brave woman

  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can some one tell me who sings this song??? Even if it was just made for the video... I absolutely love it

  • She's getting skinny as the time goes by...

  • @bOycHiLL Yeah, I didn't understand that either.

  • @veilx Perhaps, the HIV has destroys her immune systems completely.

  • @veilx it's in reverse. You are seeing her journey..from well..to unwell

  • WHO CAN SAY THEY DON'T FIND THIS OK ?! YOUR F*CKING CRAZY WHO'S SAY THAT IS NOT GOOD ! OMG ! THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL !

  • I think that ARV treatment needs more publicising. This is the first time I've been made aware of it.

  • Beautiful and heart warming, yet so sad that it ever progressed to that stage in the first place and many other people will never get this help.

  • please could someone tell me where i can find this song? it is beautiful and i have googled the lyrics but the version i have found of it is nowhere near as good. so please if anyone knows?

  • Comment removed

  • Pure genius. Who ever came up with this drug needs some form of reward. I first saw this on Russel Howards Good News (UK TV Show) it was a surprise to hear such a story on this program, which normally makes fun out of the news, but in this case it didn't and I just think that this is amazing! Oh, and I would like to ask how Selinah is now?

  • Genius.

  • I also saw this on Russel Howard. It's a magnificent little film. It actually brought tears to my eyes. Wonderful. Keep up the good work, big love to you.

  • thumbs up if you saw this on Russell Howard ^_^ such a touching video at how we can help people with this life-threatning illness.

  • @118rose yup, saw on Russell Howard too =)

  • i am never ever ever ever ever gonna get aids

  • This is so touching, it's amazing how much healthier she looks in such a short time! I hope a cure is found soon. Wish her all the best.

  • has someone even tried reading the side efects of the medicine. That ad is completely ridiculous. i bet they gave her a better health care, good food and so. Because in the day one, she doesn't look like the aids patients in the early 80s, she just look like the anorexic girls, that means, she looks like a person that doesn't eat properly

  • @liggian She lives in South Africa, she *won't* eat properly on less than $2 a day, neither would anyone. I've been to South Africa and seen people like Salina - this is how they are and they're suffering terribly for it, any advert to gain support is far from ridiculous. This isn't just an ad for a bit of extra health care, this would save the lives of hundreds of people. Put things in perspective.

  • @aderyntan I didn't try to be irrespectful, I'm just facing the possibility of the dissidents of AIDS. I think they are convincing and honestly, that doesn't look like the original AIDS patients, that really looks like a very sick person, but not AIDS. It really makes people think that they are not telling the whole truth.

  • The song is "human" by Leah Seigel She is currently recording the full version for her next album PLEASE AD THIS TO THE VIDEO DESCRIPTION

  • Please play this AD on SABC, not only on DStv… Please! Please!

  • Beautiful...

  • If you've never viewed this video, then please do. It's the reason we must make sure that ALL persons affected by HIV have access to medications. Period.

  • The singer is Leah Siegel, according to other youtubers. However, I'm not sure of the song name...Sorry =(

  • What is the name of the song?

  • How could they have such a beautiful song be such a huge part of this ad and never give credit? What's the name of the song and who is the artist??

  • How could they have such a beautiful song be such a huge part of this ad and never give credit? What's the name of the song and who is the artist??

  • Is this for real my bro just found out now I don't know what to do is death the next step or is there really help besides the normal meds

  • @mrsvab66 Please encourage your brother to get on to an ARV treatment programme, and while on it to make sure he does not have breaks in his treatment. Selinah took her meds religiously each day, that is how she was able to become strong again. Your local Clinic will be able to point you in the right direction.

Death need not be the next step at all. Anti Retroviral meds are amazing these days. Please show your brother this video as it demonstrates the powerful effect that such treatment has.

  • Nothing more than a HAART therapy :P for free in Euro Union

  • @MarcusAstranus That's the beauty of The Topsy Foundation - we are bringing comprehensive HIV and AIDS treatment including antiretroviral therapy to people in rural South Africa who really need it - free of charge. Bear in mind that 13% of South Africans survive on less than the equivalent of $1 a day and 54% on the equivalent of $2 a day. We need to do even more... and we will with your help. please do encourage your friends to go to our website to donate -topsy.org.za

  • @thetopsyfoundation I'm not HIV infected, but i do pay taxes. It makes me mad that "centrum d/s AIDS" - Polish agenda to prevent and heal AIDS - have to pay for drugs more than 12000 euro for a single patient a year. Producing these drugs (standard HAART therapy - 3 drugs) cost less than 1200 Euro a year. Euro costs little more than a dollar.

  • And how is now Selinah? What about the other people who help the association?

  • @brutOrder You will be happy to know that Selinah is doing very well. She is strong and vibrant and continues to take her medication every day. visit worldwideweb.topsy.org.za to find out more about the Topsy Foundation's work, or email our Donor Relationship Manager, Michelle Phipson, who will be able to answer specific questions in more detail- michelle.phipson@ogilvy.co.za

  • I first saw this ad on TV in South Africa with the sound off - I was mesmerized by the story it told. I then saw it again with the sound on and was captivated by the music too. How refreshing to be faced with the reality of AIDS in an optimistic light. Things CAN get better.

  • @billsimpson19 Definitely Bill. The message we are trying to convey, through this powerful Ad, is that ARV medications have the ability to improve one's quality of life DRAMATICALLY. There is hope, as long as people receive treatment and remain on it. Please support organisations who are dispensing ARV medications. Doing so WILL save lives.

  • Thank you so much kellyparkhurst! Every time you do sms 39810 The Topsy Foundation is enabled to keep doing this work - and more... The touching song was written and performed by Leah Siegel for this ad. Please tell all your friends to visit our website to donate. All the best Topsy

  • Woooow. Who's singing? Sounds like Regina Spektor...

  • What a magnificent piece of work.. the concept, filming and soundtrack... everyone that contributed did an amazing job! I am also totally turned on to Leah's music now... will look to see when she performs again in the city and catch her on stage! GREAT writing and singing there...

  • amazing video. thanks for showing this to prove once and for all that these drugs are helpfull

  • If only everyone with the disease got help like this. Thank you Topsy for making a difference in people's lives. We need more people like that. I'll sms the word Topsy to 39810 until my airtime runs out...

Well done Ogilvy - it is incredibly poignant and brought me to tears in an instant - what a way to make an impact.

  • So beautiful, yet so sad!

  • @rdiering why sad?.... she lives because of the drug... it is a miracle. Aids does not have to be a death sentence!
