Kojima really made you feel Snake's pain and trauma in his life. You aren't much of a hero when you've killed your own father, brother, and have fought aimlessly your entire life. The very fact that you were bred for war makes you more of a cold blooded killer than a hero. Heck, he was indirectly responsible for his mother's death. In that sense then, he isn't a hero.

Plus, I really enjoy how Kojima blurs the lines between hero and villain. It goes to show the impact of different perspectives

Not to mention that all heroes eventually do stuff they don't want. Spiderman, superman, batman, they do it because they are the only ones who can, not because they always want to. Depends on your definition of a hero. Do you think Batman/Superman/Rorschach/Spaw­n/Spider Man represent a true "hero"? Batman represents a corrupted dark side that will never break a code of iron, Superman is an all-around good wall of justice, Rorschach is the manifestation of killing intent provoked to the "greater, self-defined good", Spawn is a cold-stone "nice guy", and Spider Man is a "do what I can" kind of hero.
