Speaking to any governing body in other than ENGLISH is an insult to all those citizens that have become fluent in OUR country's LEGAL language. I was eight years old when my family migrated to the US from Havana Cuba in 1967. My father was adamant that we learned the English language, so between night school for my parents and day school for me we learned to read and write the language in no time. This is not to say forget your native language, it’s just the respectful thing to do when your from another country. In Mexico you don't have push one for English and two for Spanish. I totally agree with the Senator. When I was in the military, I went to different countries and had to interact with the local populace of those nations. Part of that interaction required I learn the language of the places I went and while not fluent in their language, as a guest considered it rude if I conducted business in english. This man was testifying on immigration rights to a senate committee, the least he could have done was to speak english to the best of his ability.
