The science behind this movie makes it that much more exquisite. I love the well thought out interactions of physical environment and biology that make its world plausible. E.g., the gaseous output of plants & the high tectonic &volcanic activity due to the proximity of the gas giant contribute to a denser atmosphere, which coupled with the lower gravity, leads to lower terminal velocity. This makes surviving falls from high altitudes believable. 12 times in the theater were not enough.

@laraesque I saw the movie 6 times in the theater just for the reasons you mentioned. I really love the believability Cameron adds to his films. He really does a lot of research on his worlds to make them believable. Cameron is the king of sci-fi movies if you ask me. He's a true genius.

@impatientfire I now have the blu-ray disc, and it is much more detailed than I expected. I saw the 2D in the theater, and I was disappointed. However, the blu-ray is an entirely different experience. On my 32-inch HD screen the scenery is just very pretty scenery. In 3D on the big screen, Pandora/Eywa was a viable, palpable character of the movie. My attention was drawn to the environment as much as to the plot. Alas, much detail is subjugated to the plot foreground and nuances are lost.

@laraesque cont'd: This is not to detract from the blu-ray. The imagery is excellent, the sound is superb--even from my measly TV speakers. Crisp, clear, and vivid, the blu-ray is worth every penny. I just miss gawking at the splendor of Pandora. Perhaps I just need a giant screen at home.

Looking forward for the movie on Blu-Ray, but I have to say that this TV Spot is boring and so traditional, that I have to wonder if the most boring people is behind it.

As good as the first trailer was before the movie came out, as bad this TV Spot trailer is ... which is why it will only get 1 star rating from me.

This movie is so beautiful! It's almost like James Cameron crept into my mind and showed me what I had yet to dream of.

I think I saw it 16 times in theaters and who knows how many times online.

Pandora is one of the least "alien" planets (or was it a moon) I've seen in a movie since so much is similar to our own earth but damn is this movie well made, though. Incredible how good special effects have become. Good movie :)

There will probably be a director's cut in November. I would go for this version since it's the theatrical cut of the film.

I;m not quite clear on whether Cameron is going to finish those extra scenes or not, but it seems he and Fox are using the LOTR dvd sale strategy. so maybe a longer cut of the film will be available for Christmas.

AVATAR was one of the greatest films of the last Decade. But now, everything is going down hill since it's really overrated, they are going to re-release it in theaters and The DVD doesn't look like it's going to have many extras. I wish the cover was better, Blu Ray for me!!!
