@SilentActivity I used 6L6GC output tubes in push-pull configuration. The transformers were Edcor CXPP60-MS-6.6k. They have ability to run 4, 8, or 16 ohm speakers.
I lost track. Probably a few hundred. Someday I'll have to tally up all the parts that I actually used. I changed the design a few times, so I had a lot of unused parts that I didn't need to buy.
Thanks man, I know what you mean. It's hard to remember. I just bought a stereo tube amp for the first time off of ebay. I need to recap it and re-tube it. Looks like it's going to be a fun project but a challenge for me. Thanks again and have a great weekend.
I am just getting caught up on all vids now... I am really impressed with all this.... I am very anxious myself to see/hear it for the first time!!!!!
Progress has been good, but I've had a couple big problems that I'll tell you about tomorrow.
I did get to do a quick test on the power amp circuits the other day, and it looks like it's gonna be sweet. Frequency response is at least 15Hz-25Khz. Couldn't get enough input signal to reach full output though, so I don't know the wattage yet.
Touching wood and holding on to some bunny feet, I'm really curious how it will perform. The work looks meticulous so far. Very intriguing to see something slowly come alive.
I'm sure it will work the first time! you know you have all good new components. I rebuilt a Heathkit 400v power supply at our repair shop and have used it in cases like this where there was not a power supply working in a piece of equipment. I'd hook up the Luxman CD player headphone output w/.047 capacitor to the grid of one of the output tubes and use the Heathkit power supply and it is so rewarding to hear sound come out into that speaker.
I have a bench power supply that I'm probably going to use for initial testing. Though it only goes up to 300V for the plates, and barely enough heater current, even for just one pair of 6L6GC's and one 6SN7.
what sort of outputs are you using? and if i build my amp will i be able to connect it to car speakers
