I see a lot of envy from guys who only do shortboard when they see an SUP mastering  the waves. In a few years SUP's are going to downsize to lighter six and seven footers with PADDLE. When you do the whole enchilada, SUP, shortboard, kiteboard,bodyboard, you laugh about these silly debates of SUP vrs shortboard

I live on the gold coast and am going on a trip to the maldives in july 2010, If i saw any kooks on those bloody stand up paddle boards out there i would dead set knock em out!! Im sick of this shit!!! ONLY KOOKS USE STAND UP PADDLES!!!

I just ordered an 11' Laird, I'm tired of the shortboard scene, it seems to attract alot of flaming and grouches in the lineup... Don't worry, SUPs are riding totally different breaks than you SBs, you should be glad to have a shrinking crowd at the arial breaks.. time to get back to soul surfing

@Ares5440 fail on the duck diving!!! Ive only been SUPing for 2 months now and I can get out into 3-4 ft surf by stand up paddling over the white wash. Any bigger you have to find a rip / channel or just surf a reef break

Enjoying the SUP! I started shortboarding 20 yrs ago because it was different but now its mainstream and boring. Got into body boarding so I could surf shallow reef breaks without any shortboarders. The SUP has opened new doors because of the paddle power and being able to get into the waves earlier, I've surfed 3 new breaks that are right in front of my house! Been watching them for over 10 yrs and now I can surf them

That would suck to see a bunch of SUP out when on a surf trip. They can be huge wave hogs and ruin the vibe.

You would think so, but in practice it doesn't seem to be how it works. My last session was at Little Dume, with four other paddlers. We shared waves, divvied up the sets as they rolled in, and were generally happy for each other's company. In my 35 years of surfing, I haven't really experienced that kind of vibe; it's like how old watermen describe Waikiki in the early 50's. Think what you want about SUP; it's better exercise and less aggro than prone.

sups suck ass in crowds. which is where newbs tend to take them because they dont know where else to go. sups should be left to the experienced. you should need a license to drive them lol, the damn boats that they are. i garauntee those paddlers you shared with were all experiened which is great! standup is fine as long as you don't act like a kook. what sucks is that beginners think its great because its easier and then fuck with the local etiquette and piss everyone off and injure people
