Their first album "Southernplayalistic...." was raw, edgy and based on THEIR talent and experiences. True fans got hooked. Next album "ATLiens" a little more 'industry' sound and then with "Aquemini" you got a whole "pop" sound that MORE of the masses took to and they then overplayed out on radio, thus, "sell outs" (TBC)

@adamskyb - think about what is common about "big music talents". They have a relatively unknown album, except in small cliques that catches on, let's take OutKast for instance. Their first album "Southernplayalistic...." was raw, edgy and based on THEIR talent and experiences. True fans got hooked. Next album "ATLiens" a little more 'industry' sound and then with "Aquemini" you got a whole "pop" sound that MORE of the masses took to and they then overplayed out on radio, thus, "sell outs" (TBC)

The industry takes what talent is there and "remasters" it to appeal to the masses or a bigger chunk of people, that's how OutKast became so pop.
