Mr Shafer seems like a nice man on this video. Of course not all WT teachers are bad men, but the ones who are have created a bad reputation. It is a shame for those who try to teach honestly.
Like many of the WT Masters Sifu Shafer looks far more able to fight than so called Grandmaster Kernspecht. Why does he not leave the WT organisation?
So called Grandmaster Kernspecht? ... have you met the guy?The man is a genius! not only a brilliant martial artist, but he is also a brilliant scientist!
He seems to look a bit further into the WingTsun System and there's enough reason not to leave. I'm already certain about GM Kernspecht abilities and now very curious about GGM Leung Ting's. But I'm quite sure the won't disappoint....
I was part of the WT then left because it WAS all about money ... regardless of what anyone tells you TRUST ME IT IS ALL ABOUT MONEY.
However, that being said i truly believe that is the BEST practical fighting style their is !! direct sipmple and appropriate , high kics and fancy SHaolin exc stuff is very good but in a practical street fight ... WT is the best.
I only try to give a fair and balanced view on the point.
No i apologise. I shouldn't have been so general the WT that i was with , fell down becauuse of money issues.. so it is unfair of me tomake such generalisations.
As one of Sifu Shäfers students I can assure you, with him it's not all about the money. He is truly passionate about teaching, Wing Tsun in general and for what I can tell from the past years he really has the best in mind for his students.
I'm sorry you had bad experiences, hopefully you can find a teacher with true love for the art and find a way back into the WT family.
Im Wing Tsun gibt es sicher manches Problem. Es sind aber eine ganze Menge auch physisch super fitter Leute dabei!!!! Da muss schon ein ganz großer kommen wenn er mitreden will... Mittelmäßige Leute vom Thai-Boxen, Mixed Martial Arts... sind eben auch nur mittelmäßig. Ich möchte mal die ganzen Waschbrettbäuche sehen von den Leuten die hier laut rumposaunen als hätten sie selbst K1 gewonnen :-)

It's not about bad experiences it's about being realistic. If you want to use your martial art for self defense, traditional training methods and martial arts WILL FAIL YOU in a real confrontation no matter how happy you are with what you are doing. People like Bruce Lee, Alan Orr etc have all discovered that you need to be in top physical shape and spar full contact often if you ever hope to win a fight.
Leung Ting style is pretty much BS and is made for milking money out of naive people.
If you have no experience with our way you can't judge it. I advice the books 'On single combat' and BlitzDefence. If you don't know these books you know nothing about our WT way. But you have a point in stating that many traditional m.a. training are not preparing for real confrontations.
I agree. There are elements in WT which are specificaly designed for students and instructors alike to experience and perfect their skill in sparring. However this does not have to mean seriously injuring your opponent.

Well, as long the gym and living conditions are not for free, it's nearly impossible to leave money aspects out of the m.a.
At least if you have to make your living with it. But I still don't agree, it's not 'all' about money. This is a generalisation.
There are teacher with different point of 'business views'. So students can find a 'fitting' one.
I don't know if WT is the 'best' but it works well with me and my students. I'm sorry, that you had already bad experience regarding money issues.
