  • the joker is still a better villain. haha

  • It would have been a bit better had Lex said that Clark's destiny WAS his to take. In the comics, Lex believes that he is meant to be the savior of the world while Superman is the villian.

  • Michael Rosenbaum And Smallville Made Lex Luthor Sympathic.

  • i love how at the end of this clark is like "i'm sorry i couldnt save you lex" :D best line

  • micheal rossembaums head looks fatter than it once was

  • @pavlinka321 You're right. Every hero needs a villain

  • Smallville And Michael Rosenbaum Made Lex Luthor Sympathic.

  • What did he meant by saying "but whe both know who can"

  • @Tumorikaxx He was saying "Clark Kent can't save the world on his own, but SUPERMAN can". So epic that Lex was encouraging him to become Superman :).

  • @LuthorRequiem Thank you!!!

  • @LuthorRequiem Lex wasn't just saying Superman. He was saying that Clark had to stop thinking that Clark Kent and Kal-El were two different individuals, but one and the same. Throughout the series Clark struggled with his identity. He either wanted to be human or Kryptonian. However, it wasn't until he accepted both sides of his "identity" the he began to believe a man could fly. Just like Lex said in the Pilot.

Then they had to ruin it with Lex forgetting all of it.

  • @Scoonertuna Totally agree with you about agree with you about Lex inspiring Clark to see that he and Kal-El were one and the same and about the parallels with what he said in the pilot, as well as in the second episode "Metamorphosis" when he says, "That necklace gives you the power, Clark. It's up to you to use it". Re: Lex forgetting: I think he still has the same emotions and instincts, but just doesn't recall the specifics of why. He's still the same Lex that we knew and loved to hate.

  • @Tumorikaxx In this scene, Lex knows Clark is Superman, and only he can save the world.

    I hope this helped you.

  • @03051974Bryant24 Yes it did, thank you!!!! I get it now

  • I'll stand by this statement to this day, Smallville messed alot of the Superman Mythos BUT the one thing they did worlds above almost every Superman is LEX Mother fucking Luthor, so good. Micheal Rosenbuam is the one true Live Action Lex

  • Lex has the devil in him

  • It's like a bromance... Almost.

  • Luthor achieved zombification.

  • Thats why the show was better with lex in them his great acting always made the other actors try harder.

  • thought as much his head was slightly bigger than it should have been

  • @dragonheartist yeah, it is. it's because he wore a bald cap instead of shaving his head because he was filming another show at the time they filmed the finale.

  • when lex said "but we both now who can" who else immediately thought superman ?

  • @Muthayus1 I did.

  • I love it when Lex says, "Oh, I'm counting on it." and the smirk he gives after Clark super-speeds away.

  • From 2:05 to 2:35. Haven't seen a relationship so better summed up then the final scene between joker an batman in Dark Knight

  • Good can only co exist along evil

  • Comment removed

  • he's wearing a bald wig in the finale right?

  • @dragonheartist yes he is

  • @dragonheartist that's right

  • I don't get it. After this scene that sums their relationship through the years, Lex loses hi memory, so ... what's the meaning of all of it (including this last dialogue)? Clark is the only one who remembers it, why can't he save Lex after it? Why does Lex become a villain without even his father's presence?

  • @KnightAlbert

Exactly. Lex Luthor is Lex Luthor, w/ his father or not. It is kinda his destiny to become villain. Do you think Adolf Hitler would be very nice guy in world without Jews, Communists, Socialists, Traitors etc.?

  • @DareiosXerxes also i think maybe he doesnt have any memories but the emotions of them, the anger and all still stayed

  • @KnightAlbert I think he forgot alot of the details like Superman's identity but otherwise his personality and emotions stayed the same....

Also, he probably pieced together alot of his past from his associates...

  • @Vjad1234 100% agreed. He's still the same man; he just doesn't remember why he is the way he is.

  • yeah because the actors are so lasy to finish it properly they need some new seasons we should make a petition to have a new show metroplious witch continuous this

  • i miss this fucking show ARGGGGHHH!

  • Lex is such a good villian espically in smallville he so good at times but also evil he means good at times but most the time is "goodness" is just plan evil

  • lex is such a good actor :)

  • I WISH THEY WOULD HAVE SAID HE WAS THE ORIGINAL LEX INSTEAD OF A CLONE. GLAD THEY BROUGHT BACK MICHAEL THOUGH HE IS THE BEST LEX OF ALL!!

  • Yeah and then he goes and loses his memory. PATHETIC!

  • @erzan Well it would be pretty stupid if Lex Luthor new that Clark was Superman wouldn't it. He would just tell everybody. Besides they have to match it to the movies and in the movies he doesn't know him.

  • We had a destiny together.

    me:O.O

  • "You still say it the same way. Astonishment, mixed with a hint of dread yet with a hopeful finish."

  • I actually found a quote that describes what Lex is thinking

'The problem with heroes, really. Their only purpose in life is to thwart others. They make no plans, develop no strategies. They react instead of act. Without villains, heroes would stagnate. Without heroes, villains would be running the world. Heroes have morals. Villains have work ethic.'

  • @JamesCPotter13 yes I just quoted a Marvel story for DC

  • @JamesCPotter13 agreed, though real villains have one kind of work ethic, particularly of the business type, make the hourlies do all the work, work them to death, and these days it seems there are no heroes to challenge them, only the hourlies who have the courage to stand up to a boss who does wrong, because standing up is right whether you can win or not, even if they risk losing their job.

  • I think when you play a character for ten years or so you kinda become them. I know a lot of people like the Lex Luthors and the Supermans for the movies, but those actors just played them in one or two movies, while these two played them for several years and months. That's why when someone talks about Superman or Lex or any other character of Superman, i not only see the characters from the comics but i also see the guys from Smallville.

  • @ImaginaryDimension so very true. Tom and Micheal have these characters honed down to a mirror finish. They do it so well they probably dont even have to try.

  • For me, somehow Lex is the hero...

Im most likely wrong but i like to believe that Lex choses to be evil, accepts his destiny only so Clark can become the hero he has to become. Thats a big sacrifice.

Like selling your soul to the devil to make the world a better place.

  • @pavlinka321 i'm glad you typed this. i have been thinking this way about lex for a while now. but lex is no hero lol. maybe in his mind he is but in reality that is far from the truth.

  • @pavlinka321 Interesting theory.

I just wish we got the real Lex Luthor back, instead of this frankenstein creation.

  • @pavlinka321 watch Unbreakable. It deals with this phenomenon.

  • Perfect

  • This was the only good scene to come out of the finale.

  • I always thought it was funny that Evil Lex was really giving Clark/Ka-El good advise to fight the darkness either himself or darkseid.

  • Powerful stuff right here. Especially the the last line...

  • Going through all these seasons, there were some real times where I wanted to drop out, and I did at times (especially in the last two seasons). But with every Lana-centric episode, or pointless Brainiac setup, here came Lex to brighten my outlook.

You just can't have a long-running Superman story without Lex Luthor, and Michael Rosenbaum brought that message home. Points to him and Tom Welling for showing Clark and Lex as more than just arch-enemies, but something else in the gray.

  • @Montesama314

lex is no hero, but his memory has been wiped by Tess Mercer, the thing i dont get is the superman cartoon, how is it tht lex knows who clark is, thts impossible after the memory purge

  • @RH1235kx You replied to the wrong person.

  • @RH1235kx Well in Superman canon, Lex typically does not know Superman and Clark are the same person. That is part of why the writers did the memory wipe I think. Only certain comics have Lex knowing and those are few and far between. In the majority of comics, he does not know.

  • now if clark just killed him there and then he would save himself years of pain

  • the last few seasons of smallville were really dried up and dying but this scene brought some life back into the show...theres no smallville without michael rosenbaum and theres no superman without lex luthor

  • I love Lex. He was amazing. I also love that of all the villans, Lex is the one that Clark fears the most, even though he's human. X

  • What was the PURPOSE OF BRINGING LEX BACK AND HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING EVIL TO CLARK?

  • @ImsoUhoez maybe he could have done something evil if darkseid who is an enemy to both clark & lex were not around.i guess they had to have this enemy of my enemy makes us temporally less enemy's.i heard that is old school superman & lex joining forces to bring down a common enemy.

  • I wonder when he said "I'm sorry I couldn't save you Lex." if he meant from the explosion or from himself becoming evil?

  • @CountTambor21 From becoming evil. These guys were best friends. Brothers. Clark had tried to be that light for Lex. But it didn't work out. Lex took the dark path. Clark took the light one.

  • @CountTambor21 Oh he definitively meant from Lex becoming evil.

  • I didn't enjoy the finale much but this scene was just awesome!

  • God, I miss Smallville.

  • "I'm sorry I couldn't save you, Lex." That was sad.

  • @BatoNY65 I don't think that he really put much effort in to trying to though.

  • The funds for a fight between Clark and Darkseid went to Lex's bald cap lol

  • @LullabyForChaos And probably bankrolled what Michael Rosenbaum wanted in order to come back

  • For 3 years, all we get for a Clark and Lex reunion is 3:57 minutes in the finale. Well, its at least something.

  • he just said right here that u cant foget memories thats why he is the lex he is today yet he fogets all this when tesse puts that thing on his face? so does that mean lex is good now?

  • @HumanPenguinBoy No I think Lex is still the same Lex Luthor we know. I think his line "that's the thing about memories: you can't forget them" really means that Lex will always remember deep down. Even if he doesn't know the specifics, he still has the same personality and emotions because of his memories. And knowing Lex and his resources, he regained many of the memories by the time he became president. The main thing is that he doesn't know for a fact that Clark=Superman IMO

  • @LuthorRequiem in the comics for some odd reason he always calls Superman "old friend"......so they had to have some kind of history or he has to remember a little something.

  • @bjbawesome No. In the comics he just call him that because they been enemies for a long time and learn to know each other very well.

  • @Hwoarang8ify I was born in '92 and this was extremely helpful, because I started reading comics later on and this struck me as strange that he would call him old friend.....thanks for clarifying that for me

  • the story between clark and lex is my favorite in smallville how they were such close friends then because of clarks lies and lex being the way he is. was just amazing how they did it great job smallville

  • i am SOOOOO glad they brought back michael for this he is the best lex to ever be put on screen

  • This is like the first movie but re-made. Clex is awesome.

  • THE BEST LUTHOR

  • @03luc i like him better as just a business man who hates having something that he can't control (superman).

  • Probably my favorite scene of the series, definitely the best acting.

  • I support lex the way he is, it is better than clark turning evil, and Lex knows this. lol

  • ITS NOT OVER NEW SERIES Coming!!! CALL METROPOLIS AND TOM WELLING AND ERICA DURANCE IS IN IT.

  • Who was lex talking about when Clark said I'm nit sure if Clark Kent can save the earth and lex said we both know who can?

  • @beerrun100 The Blur cos Lex knows Clarks secret

  • @beerrun100 SUPERMAN!!!

  • @beerrun100 well lex im SM knows clark is alien and kinda has a split personality in kal el. to me lex was telling clark what the final step of his destiny was without actually giving it away

  • Great scene!

  • Am I the only one who thinks that Lex would have kept Clark's secret even if he had kept his memories?

  • @MarcusSLazarus I think it would be a cool idea to have Superman's greatest enemy keeping his secret. It makes for something different and interesting.

  • @EddyDraks It actually has happened sometimes; I read one comic story ("Superman: Ending Battle"), where Lex discovered Superman's identity but admitted that he'd keep it to himself to maintain their status quo (although this version of Lex's warped feelings for Lois were also a factor, and a telepath erased his memory of it anyway)

  • @MarcusSLazarus i think he would have kept clark's secret.espeasally if the real lex was the one in season 8.i think lex could have gotten in contact with people who work for him and not counting toyman which is one that surprised me. i did not get the impression that he told anyone.tess had to figure stuff out from reading journals or diaries after lex supposedly died.i think lex would keep this secret as some sort of power.

  • @sweetlady31erin His way of ensuring that they maintain their 'status quo' of Lex as a seemingly benevolent businessman while Clark's the public hero, each one keeping the other 'in check'?

  • It's funny how so many people hate on Smallville when its not about superman, its about how the simple person became superman, how he became to hold the morales he does as the great hero. so the fact that you didn't see the suit, or him flying is because he is not superman, not yet. so just stop hating god damn.

  • This scene reminds Me of Batman & Joker in TDK.. "Me & You.. were destined to do this dance forever.." *cue maniacal laughing*

  • So glad Michael came back for this. He embodies Lex Luthor!

  • Lex is right. The greatest men in history were defined by their enemies: Hitler and Churchill, Napoleon and Wellington, Scipio and Hannibal, etc. They were interconnected. What a great line. This scene proves why Lex was so important to this show. This scene was also the ONLY thing worth watching in the finale. Rosenbaum played Lex perfectly.

  • Best scene at that awful finale. Love this scene so much and then they fucked it up with the Lex and Tess scene.

  • Comment removed

  • this is how it should have ended glad they had michael back for the end

  • awh why did lex have to become evil

  • EEPICCC ==== SMALLVILLE , thanks to all the cast and everyone that ever participated in this masterpiece tv show

  • Im in love with Lex. I legit cryed when he died....

  • this was a fantastic scene

  • I literally cheered when Lex walked in I was like WHOOOO LEX!!! and my dad was like woooow but hey he is the best bamf in this show :D Miss smallville so much glad I have all the seasons :)

  • Honestly the most epic scene in this episode

  • Yeah Lana was not a big deal in the old movies, she was just his first crush but nothing more.

Well I don't think that was the real Bizzaro anyway...

I don't like how they treated Doomsday and Darkseid at all though...or the entire part 2 of the last episode...was kind alame he could push away a planet with ease and gg lol...:P

  • What I liked about the last 3-4 episodes is that somehow it leads to the first 2 movies in some alternate versions somehow...

Zod is trapped in the phantom zone, Lex doesn't know anything about Superman untill he sees him as Superman and Darkseid is obviously not dead.

  • @Phylux Yeah I love how Smallville built their own history while maintaining a plausible connection to past histories. Lex doesn't know who Superman is, Zod is trapped in the Zone, Lois is the Daily Planet's greatest reporter, Doomsday is buried beneath the Earth, the Justice League/Suicide Squad/Checkmate are all operational. The only things I wish they didn't change were killing off Bizarro, making BRAINIAC non-existant in present time, and super-powering the hell out of Lana lol

  • is it just me or does michale rosembaum's acting look and sound a lot like Chris Walken's?

  • I miss Smallville. Could it please just come back?

  • @redserial21 Agreed!

  • @redserial21 hell no!!

  • @redserial21 Ditto

  • @redserial21 well if you TNT they're showing returns of Smallville now. In the mornings after Supernatural .

  • @redserial21 maybe a feature length film starring all the actors down the line?

  • @shadowjsw If they took their time and did it right, i bet it would be awesome.

  • best lex luthor ever

  • what ep is this?

  • @PrincesaLunardeKou The Finale

  • @level22productions thanks =D

  • is this lex a clone or the real one in a new body?

  • A perfect clone with the same memories, so in a way, it's the old lex.

  • @TheMentalDestroyer i wish they enplaned it better but i'm thinking it is the real lex with clone parts healing him.i heard that in the comic the real lex's brain ends up in a clone body.i do have this feeling because clark talk to lex like he is the real lex and this lex seems to think he is the real lex.the clones know there clones with them saying that they have all of lex's memories.i'm thinking no matter how they brought lex back it might get confusing to me.

  • How could they've end this show :(

They could have made a much much better ending then this.

  • I loved that Scene. then again I loved Most Lex- Clark Scenes. I've Always Told People that Smallville was Not Only about Superman's Rise, But Lex's fall as well. as it was just as entertaining. to watch over the years. I disliked the Memory Wipe too. I understand Why they did it. But I didn't Like it. C'est la Vie. Smallville Rocks.

  • is lex crying during this? i think he is, but it might just be the light. But i loved this.

  • thanks for putting this up!

  • What a load of shit.

  • why did they kill of his memory it would have been better if he had

  • @narutofan1305 In the original Superman 1978 movie, Lex Luthor wasn't old friends with the young Clark kent (before he becomes Superman). So this show decided to wipe Lex Luthor's memory to fit the original movie storyline

  • @7sevenforce that is a b.s reason to do that.they should of alluded to a possible mind wipe or give lex selective amnesia.i do not know how he would think that clark and superman are not the same person with selective amnesia.but i would of thought that the writers would have found a way.my selfish side of me was hoping for a way to keep lex's memory as is and do whatever you can to deal with it or use a mind wipe as a last minute option.

  • @narutofan1305 i did not like the so called ether and the only thing that keeps me going is the fact that lex does not say who i'm i where i'm i and what i'm i doing here.there is that and i want to believe that memory comment is a foreshadowing thing not a thing or irony.i do not care if lex ends up finding out superman & clark are the same person in tell a mind wipe happens like he can't know for too long unless he dies.i would of wanted lex to know stuff and superman would survive that.

  • @sweetlady31erin i do not know how superman could survive that and stop lex but that was something i was hoping for in order for there to be a point to this tv show.sure there are risks that happened in onyx, requiem, lazerus and beacon.but i was stilling hoping they were going to work something out.

  • Lex and Lionel, his father were prob the BEST actors in the show, and my fav. They played their parts amazingly well.

  • I knew what Lex was gonna say before he even started the whole 'I hoped it was friends'

  • Probably THEE BEST scene in the series of Smallville. It's just too bad that the writers decided to destroy Lex's character and make him nonexistent.

  • "i'm sorry i couldn't save u lex" such an emotional line

  • dead pelican... hmmm Smallville was always about the young Clark Kent, it will always remind me of Christopher Reeve....and I agree Michael Rosenbaum was a GREAT Lex Luthor...there have been many versions of this story, but this tv show, to last this long is something!!! I for 1 will miss it!

  • i agree michael rosembum was a great lex. kevin spacey was not cast correctly. blah!

  • I LOVED Lex. He was such a nice friend to Clark. It's sad really, that he turned out like that. :/

  • its a shame the smallville writers couldnt make up their minds. one way they hinted at lex returning via darkseid supernatural powers, the other by cloning parts that lex stored away. so which is it? they imply both, a clone and the original by showing the burned hand seen way back in season 1.

  • 2:12 best part

  • @DoubleAgent244 That's a great one. 2:27 is my favorite.

  • to me it seems that though lex chose the evil route, he still at those last moments seen clark as somewhat a friend. the way he spoke to him telling him he is the only one who can save this world. the best lex EVER!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lex you son of a bitch moment.

  • When I saw Rosenbaum return as Lex I squealed LEX'S name out as loud as I could and cranked up the t.v. so happy he returned for Lex.

  • He played the part of lex the best

  • michel rosembum is the best lex luthor ever. i never liked kavin specey or jene

  • @demoniacofication92 I totally agree. He was such a compelling character that I wished he wouldn't turn which of course was inevitable.

  • @demoniacofication92

Him and Clancy Brown have always been my favorite.

  • @demoniacofication92 i have to agree he is a great luthor, if only the dialog was more original.

  • @demoniacofication92 ..i sceond that 1110%....Michael absolutley nailed this character and made it his own much like Reeves did with the movie version Superman

  • @demoniacofication92

What do you mean 'you never liked Gene'? Gene Hackman was the original Lex Luthor and many of the character's traits were HIS ideas. You know how Lex Luthor is bald? Yeah, that was Gene Hackman's idea during the filming of Superman 1.

You claim that the current incarnations of characters 'are the best ever' because you're too young and they are the only ones that you have experienced. If it wasn't for Gene Hackman, then Lex Luthor would never have evolved as a villain.

  • @iTubeYourDadsMinge Lex was bald in the comics for years. Gene Hackman never had that idea.

  • @demoniacofication92 u never liked gene hackman yeah micheal rosembum is gd but no where in the league of hackman have u seen any of the superman films and tom welling is second best to christoper reeves

  • @demoniacofication92 Yes, I think he did his job as Lex Luthor very well. :-)

  • @demoniacofication92 That's Cuz Hackman & Spacey's Portrayal Of Luthor Was Based On The 'Golden Age' Version Of The Character Who In The Comics Was Originally A Simple Mad Genius.

Rosenbaum's Lex Is Based On The Present Version Which Is Synomous Today: That Of A Billionaire Narcissistic Mad Genius Who Has Demented Himself In Believing That Superman Is The Villain & He The Hero.

  • @demoniacofication92 HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Funny

  • @demoniacofication92 for sure

  • @demoniacofication92 i liked how he flinched at the end lol.

  • to be clarks past friend has made lex to the best lex luthor in history. the story writer for the comics and films must bring this in. it will give the best dynamic ever
