The Sherman Brothers (composer & lyrics) and A.J. Carothers (screenplay) wanted this in the middle of the film when the boys were to leave off to college from the train station. Walt Disney insisted this stay at the very end of the film, the best for last, and what we would we remember as we left the theatre. The studio subsequently cut the film three times in the Summer of 1967. This was the first scene cut! Ms. Greer skipped her hometown premier as a result. Track on "Sherman Songbook" CD.
I love this movie SO much! It's always been one of my favorites. It was my dad's favorite when he was a kid to. It's so upsetting that people in my generation don't appreciate things like this anymore. :(
I bought this movie the other day and have watched it multiple times. I was a young child when I first saw this. I didn't remember the story line but I do remember that I loved it. (anything Disney actually) Brings back very fond and warm memories. This and Futurosity are my 2 favorite songs from this movie. Thank you so much for the upload.
Sadly, the audio for the dialogue to this scene was lost (the beginning of the clip). So the actors' voices had to be redubbed. However, on the singing, you do hear their original voices, as that was preserved on the original soundtrack recording.
I just read in Greer's book that this was originally cut when it was premiered in 1967. Greer was so sad that her song was cut, and I'm so glad that the film has been reissued with this scene ;)

One of the sweetest songs ever. Childhood goes by so quickly and there is nothing left but an empty house.

I'm always gonna love this movie because of 1) the pet alligators...that's just cool. and 2) I LOVE the "Dynamite Up Her Sleeve" song!:P:)
And could someone remind me who the actor is who plays the father?

@Shasta11111111 He was the perennial disney father. He played a retired mailman in the orginal Shaggy Dog. He also did a few really good westerns!
