people are going to judge you no matter what, pretending that we are something we're not, or not admitting what we are just to attempt to keep the deluded masses 'happy' is a cop-out. this is still america & we are slowly but surely stepping out of the dark ages, yet some will always have to draged kicking & screaming. i am certain there was much frustration with the flat earthers too.

The problem here is that a "Party" must have a cohesive vision for every aspect of public policy.
So, fine, toughen up the boundary between Church and State - remove "God" from the pledge of allegiance as well as all the bank notes.
But then there's the economy and foreign policy and healthcare and gun control and capital punishment and taxes etc. etc. etc. There are atheists at the extremes of all of those - it would be hard to say "We atheists don't believe in capital punishment"; many do.
Atheists fall on all points of the political spectrum, from left - center - to right and the same goes for authoritative governance - personal liberty - to total anarchy.
Herding cats is a fools enterprise.
Short term sensation. Can't see N.A.P. having any meaningful legs, long term.
I want no part of a 'party' of any kind. I am an atheist for no other reason than I do not believe in supernatural nonsense. Nothing else applies to me. This is precisely what fundies latch onto when they spin the fallacious associations between us and the nazi party. No thanks.
It's not so much that I would care if people would like or trust me. My concern about this party is that it throws, atleast in the public eye, atheist under a dogma. "Atheists agree to this that and the other because that's what the Atheists Party agrees on." If an Atheist Party should exist it should be about keeping church and state separate and providing all atheist a reprsentative. It should have nothing to do with abortion, guns, tax etc. EVEN though most of us came to the same conclusion.
Unfortunately, the voting public, by large, is not educated in the issues or the realilty of governance. When voting opens, many just scratch the choice of who has better hair, who has god on their side or who can be best at throwing competitors under the bus while their party seeks nominations. Labels are the other problem in the USA. This NAP is going to be seen as a Commie party. When a country elects someone like Reagan or Bush(either) or allows pastors to run for office, it's disconcerting.
The Party will just give people a clear enemy to characterize all atheists with. I tend to agree with Sam Harris that the most effective way to spread awarness about how religious claims are false is to work generally decentralized. We just need the knowledge and courage to call bullshit when we see it. Giving the religious extremists a target to capitalize on will most likely just give them positive press in the American public's eyes.

The trouble with National XXXX Party is that the XXXX is bound to be associated with "socialist" - and that spells NAZI.
I would prefer ARSE - Atheists for Reason Secularism and Education

I want to see an candidate or several first. I am very intrigued though.
Do you think the party could get some major money backing from one of the billionaire atheists out there like Bill Gates or Zuckerberg?

I think there are more Atheists then what the polls show. The number of Atheists will grow and the internet will play a part in that.
