there great cars and tear it up in 4wheel drive but for an offroading car i perfer the 1980 throu 1989 subaru wagons with 4wheel they tend to have more clearance and there low range is just alittle better lol thats hard for me to say cuz im a die hard toyota fan ive got and 83 pickup fully upgraded with every thing u could think of cost me all toghther to finsish it 10gs but it was worth it... GO TOYOTA

Now excuse me...I hope your talking about the new american cars...I hate them. I only drive cars pre 1990. I have an 83 Tercel and LOVE IT! An 85 Dodge truck to haul stuff, and a 78 Ford LTD to cruise around in and take the girls places. All are well built vehicles. I wouldnt trade any of them for anything.

god i had one of these it had almost 200,000 miles on it and it still ran like new but i sold it and guess what...i still see it around town they last forever cant kill these cars

Also if you want a little more power the corolla 4ac engine will bolt right in and has an extra 10 hp thanks to a larger cylinder bore.

I have two tercels a 83 and an 85 and I love them. I've done some crazy stuff with them. The 83 was my first car and the 85 survived a crash off a 10 ft bank into a river without much damage. The 83-84 has a 373 gear ratio and th 85 and later have a 411 wich is beter for forwheeling but cuts down on highway cruising speeds.

My first car was the 4WD SR5. That car was great, if you are 15 and love a car with a top speed of 77 mph. It sure was phenominal in the snow and had a 6sp manual (EL gear only available in 4WD mode) Great on gas, funny plaid seats and interesting gauges that displayed the angle of the car front and back side to side. Very fun first car.

SR5 is juat a trim package. The Tercel4wd came in Standard, Deluxe, and SR5. In that order.

The Tercel 4wd was only offered in the USA from 83-88. Though there were Tercel 4wd Sedan's, they never made their way across the pond.

The 83-84 had a 3.727:1 diff set, the 85-88 had 4.10:1 diff set.

Other than that they are very very similar across the years.
