One of the shrieks yelled out was George Martin (later producer for The Bealtes). Peter kicked a chair during his performance. It flew across the room and accidentally hit George in the shin.
There's another brilliant "Irish" skit called "In a Free State" which is a caricature of the irascible playwright Brendan Behan - anyone got a handle on this one?
Uistmann,Here I am again looking a lift and a laugh, your captions blended brilliantly with this very funny video, i still think it is the best on You Tube.
Hi Oliver, glad you got a laugh out of it. Its also a bit of nostalgia. The fellow carrying the tv and setting it on the wall is on the Island of Benbecula, not not after we got the electricity in so it was easy to tie up with the electrification of the Gaeltacht too which was about the same time. Thanks for your kkind comments, Iain :-)
The track on the original 1958 LP that included this piece was called Suddenly It's Folk Song, and included other clips of "traditional songs" supposedly recorded in a West Country pub and in central Glasgow. Both were very good, and well worth checking out. But this was easily the funniest of the three, if rather reliant on the stereotype of the pugnacious Irishman.
Sellers was doing all the voices, and a good job with the accents, although the idiot that told Sean he was playing a bum note, sounded like he was a returned Yank.
Thanks again lorgain2. I dare say a lot of younger folk had never heard this. It was produced by Sir George Martin who also produced the Beatles and it is included in a compilation box set of tracks produced by him (2001).
the tune is actually called 'Tell her I am' - i've been in sessions like this i can tell you!

@66gadus If anyone wants to listen to a gentler version of "Tell her I am", without fisticuffs , go to axelrodney's channel :-)
