you can think of it that way .. and to get doubles you just have to do the same motion in a faster whip instead of smooth and controlled ., you can also think of it as being as simple as playing a heel up stroke then a heel down stroke and back and forth .. does that answer the question? or did I explain that in a bad way
@shadowlorde Nope, that's perfect, I think I might experiment with incorporating this into my own playing. Cheers!
Also, most of the playing in this vid is pretty quick as it is (180-200ish) but would this technique also be suitable for the 250+ stuff, ie. John Longstreth?
on a good day i can get my right foot up to 8ths around 230-240 (have to make a vid of it some time) my left foot tops out around 215 -220 .. i don't spend hours per day practicing for speed .. so if someone DID practice a lot to increase speed i'd assume itd be highly possible to take this as far as you want ..
side note to anyone who'se reading this... i just bought a dtxplorer and when i figure out how to record with it . I might re-do this vid on electro drums instead of a footrest like in this vid
sorry another question here, sometimes when doing the constant release (up, down) stroke, my foot kinda like catches air instead of the pedal as its like swinging in a different frequency, any tips in approaching that? thanks again!
can you work this techinque on other pedals spring tension or different beaters? I'm interested as I find it impossible to play on anything heavier than light beaters with little spring tension. However, this is also because I am a weakling. I have very little technique down really
WOW great explanation of THIS technique man...ive been using this technique amongst the others that are out there because of the sake of power which you clearly defined with this...youre right its exactly like the Moeller for the foot and prefer this than the very difficult and time consuming swivel...however you show great control and I salute you on great work...by the way this is really excellent use for single foot blasts which is MY primary use... thanks for the vid...VF
this technique seems to be mostly ignored by many of the new "more brutal than brutal" players i'm at the point where it is my default double bass technique .. i don't even think about it anymore ... just flows out
So is this basically heel toe, except singles as opposed to doubles, with the second stroke always leading back into the first one?

@snoozymoo your toes should never leave the pedal... (if that's what your getting at)
if that's not it .... mess around with the spring tension
shadowlorde 1 year ago
thanks! i am currently learning the constant release too, but my 2ndhand elims only have the blue cams, i am wondering if it affects learning it?
thanks =)
snoozymoo 1 year ago
@snoozymoo don't see why it should. I use black cams because I like how they feel. ... you have blue cams ... work on it with them ... it's all good

great explanation!
are those pearl eliminators?

@snoozymoo
thanks! .. and yes they are .. black cam .. standard chain drive feel
