you cannot do it from ur pc cell phone does have radio waves it recieves the data from towers and send them to nearest towers so cell can recognize nearest tower and can show the street name, old nokia phones shows it immidiatly but new phones not showing them

Maybe. This is done in handwriting only. I'm guessing you're Scandinavian? How would you do it?

There's no "ø" in English so if you are handwriting a password like a13oøb2cd it actually works well. Most typefaces use size etc to split the letter and the digit and some don't care. Some "simple" computer console typefaces like Consolas use a slashed zero for the same reason.

But now it's just creepy. They're showing pictures of your houses on GoogleMaps, and they know exactly where you are at any time they wish.

I am using google maps from palm pre. The location shows up correctly when I am outside a building. But when i am inside office my location is so wrong. When it is always cell phone towers which get the location why does it vary for inside and outside building.

It isn't always cell towers. That's only if you don't have GPS, can't get a GPS connection, or it won't work. The Pre has GPS, so google maps always tries to use it.

@k24601utube when you have wi-fi enabled, your device picks up beacons from wifi hotspots (like Café's) even when you're not connected. Each of these hotspots have been labelled with the address that they're used in. So, when you open your maps application your device is triangulating you based upon wifi hotspot locations.

Coz i just tried on my E71, it said "seeking GPS satelites (2)" and "GPS Active (3)", and it actualy managed to find my location from home when i'm at home with my home wifi connection. FYI, the GPRS data count didnt register any usage anyways... will I be charged in other ways?

No, even if it uses the cellular network instead of GPS to find your location, you will not be charged, all it needs to know is which cell sites your phone is receiving and it will find your location with that data by transmitting it through your data connection, I tried it using Bluetooth PPP on my at&t Centro with no GPS.

Good luck. I have an 8320 curve with T-Mobile. Will end their service soon. To use GPS services through T-Mobile you have to have an external device. Otherwise you are looking at an ~1.75 mile diameter "my location". That is ok if you are on a single main highway in desert county. But let's see you find your way out of maze of city streets..

GPRS and GPS are not the same thing.

to clarify, Google Maps requires some kind of data connection to download map data. this is generally a GPRS, EDGE or 3G connection (except in cases where your phone has the ability to connect to WiFi hotspots, in which case you can use WiFi). Without a data connection, Google Maps simply would not work. Period.

ok, now GPS is separate thing and is to do with satellite positioning. it's not required by Google Maps, but it helps.

Verizon has this GPS locator blocked on their phones mostly. They don't want people using this as their navigating device because they are stingy bastards. HOWEVER. they lost a lawsuit and they caved in. Beginning First Quarter 2009 verizon phones will unlock the gps and this should work. until then, wait i guess. STUPID VERIZON!
