The Beauty of the Arabian Horse

when I buried my old Arabian mare, I buried part of my soul with her...I also sent my sister's ashes with her as she had always dreamt of a black Arabian of her own, and I couldn't think of a better person to send to be with my Sonata for eternity, nor a finer companion for my sister. I am a Christian but only the grace of Allah could have created this incredible animal. I still have one and will always need at least one in my life.

@Naseer958 Maybe yes, maybe no, but they have the right to their opinion..some people love their breed better & think their breed is best..but it all comes down to the fact that the Arabian horse is the foundation of every breed..:)

@sedonasong That is not true. Arabians are NOT the foundation of EVERY breed, though more breeds have been influenced by them than not.. The other foundation of modern breeds is the old Spanish horse, which has its foundations rooted in the Barb, a North African breed completely separate from the Arabian. (One of the greatest horse breeds is the Arab-Barb, a horse decended from the cross of these two distinct, magnificent breedsm, considered by many to be better than the Barb or Arabian).

It states: "The Arab is the most important breed of all time because it is the foundation of all modern horse breeds. All breeds can trace their roots back to the Arab." There is some controversy over whether the Barb & Arabian horses share a common ancestor, or if the Arabian was a predecessor of the Barb.

@sedonasong I have to agree that, when studying the history behind horse breeds of the modern day, the Arabian is the most important existing breed to study and the most important breed in horse history in the last 3 centuries; "of all time", though, sounds a bit like a bias claim to my ears, or at the very least unthoughtful, for we can't say for sure which genetics were most influentia hroughout history or if their even is predominance throughout horse domestication.

Or the “heavenly horses” originating in central Asia that were the basis for all Asian breeds and also most European breeds by way of the Mongol horses? What of the Iberian horse/Barb horse (forgive me for bringing it up again) that gradually spread eastward over nearly the entire horse population, valued for key traits that differed them from Arabians?

@sedonasong Though extinct, we cannot afford to forget the great breeds that have passed into the dark void of history. Calling any breed, Arabian or otherwise, the most “important breed of all time” is scientifically and historically narrow-minded. It was not until very recently in history that Arabian was of any great influence on the world’s horse breeds.

Though it is possible, you'd be hard-pressed to find a breed of horse that has not had Arabian influence in the last 300 years. As for "foundation" . . . that depends on your definition of foundation. In speaking of breed origin, less than forty horse breeds actually have Arabian "foundation", while nearly all have Arabian "influence" due to modern trends. Still, forty is a hefty number. Quite impressive

@sedonasong As for the controversy over the origins of the Barb & Arabian: yes, I've heard that, too. Most genetists seem to have come to a recent conclusion that's more of a theory than a law. It is likely that the Barb migrated from the Iberia Penisula in the last Ice Age. So the Sorria of Spain and the Barb are considered merely isolated gene pools of the same type of horse, with no specific common origin with the Arabian. That's the most accepted explanation in everything I've read post-2010

i have always been puzzled about how the arabian horse came into excistence.. i know that the bedawin arabs used the best of the best horses to breed but how many years did it take to get to the horse we now call the arabian horse? and were these horses stronger and faster than the spanish & the rest of the european horses during the crusades?

lol, i have a arab mare, she is chestnut and 13 hands high, with 4 socks and a blaze. She also has an amazing extended trot which is like flying, she has a beautiful small dipped face and she is glossy and elegant in summer and fluffy and pretty in winter. She ahs a long mane and tail which is never cut short, and she is so fast and lovely, I wouldnt sell her for the world :D

actualy i think the mares from the Royal Jordanian Stud are magnificent, they are sort of like egyptian but different and a bit smaller. At my yard, an arabian stud in england, there is a stallion out of one of them and he and his offspring are beautiful, he throws fast, beautiful and great moving 'children'. although i do thing the egyptian arabs are beautiful,we had a broodmare who we had to re-break and i was the leader of that project and had the privilage of riding her bareback, woderfull.x
