I've been zip lining and even did one where you had to plunge into 40 ft of water at the end and it was the most amazing fun I've ever had in my life. I do feel bad that it is small children having to do this. I watched this last night without the speaker and didn't realize it was small kids doing this. These kids are really some badasses! I hope my kids when I finally have some are brave like this!
The zip line looked stable. There are more dangerous ways of transportation than a zip line that's (get this) firmly anchored into the ground. Colombians aren't stupid. Give them more credit. No casualties? I think they would've opted for the two-hour-one-way trek every day if someone had died using it, don't you?
@Rozax I don't know if you were serious... but it's actually much more sturdy than the guy talking gives it credit. The people of the village are wise not to try to carry more than they do already, but they -could- carry more weight if needed; that zip line isn't going to break any time soon. The biggest risk they run is not tying themselves on right, the pulley breaking, or not braking enough before they run into the tires at the end. There's really no need for a bridge; it's pretty safe as is.
@MegztheTackleQueen Oh, I don't doubt that the narrator is being dramatic. Seeing as I haven't grown up with this mode of transportation, I'd be an incredible pansy if I needed to use this zip line. I am kinda surprised that this video didn't start a fundraiser for a bridge, though.
lol imagine how nervous someone would be if when they were about one fourth the way down they look back and see a huge fat guy getting on the cable right behind them, and he's also carrying an obese midget on his back
I work in school and this video looks like something I'll show the 7th graders next time they complain about the School Bus or haveing to ride Public Transportation to get to school.
They may have lost their penises but they have balls the size of planets. Seriously though, such a small group of people crossing, why not just move to the other side? o_O
as daisy plummets into the terrifying gorge everything goes swell....until there is an earthquake and the line SNAPS! suddenly daisy is literally plummeting down the gorge ahahaha thumbs up?
To some of us adults, especially the ones who have been on a zipline ourselves, this doesn't look too scary. That was my first thought. But if you imagine having never done it before, and being 7 years old, maybe younger, when you do it for the first time...
this is not really that scary its kinda boring but you get to enjoy the view , i have tried it and the guy doing the voice over is just exagerating it
@LiNaK37 Well yeah, but obviously not to the people doing it. So this guy doesn't need to be so dramatic. His tone of voice is all "It's tragic that these children are forced to these measures" when it's not tragic at all. If that kind of thing were legal in the States for public transportation I'd be all over it.
I live in Colombia. We call this "canopy" and it's a popular "adventure sport" activity. There are hundreds of tourist spots where you pay to do this so I don't see what's so terrifying about it. Also, the cable is not rickety. The voice-over guy wins the drama-queen, sensationalizing loser award.
@robbielex Yeah, but at those tourist sites you have technicians etc. who make sure the system is properly maintained. Also, the brake is more advanced than a fucking piece of wood, and you have something stronger than a tire to stop your descent. Also, the people who do this are probably older than seven, and don't go across in a burlap sack.
@robbielex Do this at seven years old in a system that--unlike a tourist attraction--is not properly maintained. Then do it twice a day, in a burlap sack. Then see if you're terrified or not.
Yeah, except those lines are checked constantly by experts to make sure they're in fine condition. You've got a small village whose only experience is what they had to learn by themselves maintaining these lines, with their only braking system being a y-shaped wooden stick.
@robbielex yeah it certainly didn't look rickety. Still, when you're talking about young kids riding without adults: those are still some badass kids!
@robbielex Well, retard, the places in Colombia where tourists pay to try this, theres experts checking it and making sure its safe, and helping them. However, in this case, they dont even know the weight limit.
Seriously, I've wanted one of these going from my school to my house like forever. Too bad school years are over and they wouldnt build one anyway. I may have to go there at least once in my lifetime xD

This might be fun for Americans that do not have to do this twice a day, without a choice to drive their BMW home. These little girls are frightened and crossing this river is not fun ... awake up Americans it is not about YOU and your thrills.

@Echelon030 Yeah, really. That was annoying. This looks very scary, but kind of fun, too. I would like to try it :P. If those little kids can do it, so can I!
it's not a rail - it's a zip line. as long as the cable and the anchors are checked regularly, it's great way to save a two-hour walk. mad props to the people who set this up.

It's a 2 hour hike through rocky, possibly unstable terrain. You have to either hike down with all your stuff or find a way to use the zipline.
