  • 19mpg, who was driving it? I average 24mpg in mine. I prefer this over an Escape because it has better fuel economy, is cheaper and 5spd (not sure if the Escape comes in a 5spd) The escape looks nice and offers a bigger engine, but lacks the fuel economy.

  • total girl car, i'd get one :)

  • who would buy this piece of shit?

  • I want one. I love luxury, it's me, but this I would love.

  • I have one for sale in Juneau Alaska! My husband bought it for me to replace my 2002 Wrangler. Once you have a Wrangler it's hard to give it up. So I bought a 2005 Wrangler! Now I need to sell my Compass. It's a great vehicle, it's just not a Wrangler.

  • dope ride, i've heard good things about this practical jeep, it's on my short list.

  • This is what happens when Jeep allows focus groups to design vehicles like the Compass. The Pontiac Aztec was "designed" with great emphasis on focus groups. The Jeep Compass is a pathetic mess. It looks rotten from virtually every angle.

  • i think you're 100% right.

but the point is that if you really have your heart set on a little jeep that has more cargo room than a similarly priced hatch/sedan, then why would you buy this over the patriot? the patriot is basically the same car, but you can buy a trail rated version, so you could at least claim that the reason it has a shit interior and terrible handling is because it's an off-roader, so it's not meant to handle.

there is no excuse for the compass, however.

  • 1 answer: Cost.

Patriots cost more than compasses because their trail rated. If I had the option of buying a Patriot thats trail rated but never really use it for that or buy a Compass thats cheaper but pretty much the same, why would you buy a Patriot.

  • ok then if your basis is that you'd buy a compass because you'd stay on the road all the time, then why would you buy a car that doesn't work on the road? the compass has a terrible ride, a cvt or a terrible manual, and handles like a wallowy mess. if jeep wanted the compass to appeal to on-road drivers, then they should have made it handle decently. if not well, then at least be acceptable.

if you don't plan on going off road at all, then why would you buy either? just buy a golf.

  • Winters are terrible where I am and the Compass eats up the snow. Also I got the 5spd not the cvt and it handles great so I dont know what your talking about their. Lets see a Golf handle a Buffalo winter.

  • @Daikenhunter actually, i just looked it up, and the patriot is actually cheaper than the compass, so i have no idea what you're talking about.

second of all, this car has fake 4wd... it will only engage if the front tires start to slip, which for most people (even in the snow), is never.

i live in the north east as well, and two weeks ago we had what the weathermen referred to as a "snow hurricane". unfortunately, i was driving a rented rear wheel drive chrysler 300, and it was fine.

  • @Daikenhunter thirdly, you must not know what real handling is if you think the compass handles well. that, or you never take corners quickly.

  • @coolerdude44 I own a Jeep Compass and have since 2007. It takes corners well for me . The only complaint I've had is it needed tie rod ends replaced , basically the whole front end before it had 35,000 miles on it. I couldn't keep new tires on it and the alignment wouldn't last. I took it finally to a college body shop after spending over a thousand dollars on it and it has been perfect every since. It now has 66,000 miles on it

  • @Daikenhunter i've been driving front and rear wheel drive cars in the snow for years, and i have no idea what this stupid american notion of "oh if i get an inch of rain, i need a range rover!" mentality is. it's just a preconceived notion, and a false one at that.

granted i don't get as much snow as buffalo, but you don't need a 4x4 off roader for some snow.

  • @coolerdude44 In buffalo we measure snow in feet and not inches. I really like it. It does handle well and ever Patriot I saw was more expensive around here.

  • thesignthebridge i agree! if you people are looking for luxury try MAYBACH 62S and for speed SLR ROADSTER CONV. if you have swiss account! COMPASS IS GREAT! NOT BAD AT ALL FOR THE PRICE!

  • Who's they?

  • I LOVE MINE! It's not fair to compare it's performance to other vehicles because it has a CVT. If you want a "zoom zoom" performance, buy a sports car, I bet it's transmission won't last as long as Jeep's. Fuel economy is NOT 19... it's really about 23/29 if you drive normally 65 on hwy and 35 in city. Again if you want to go faster, buy a sports car. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE COMPASS. 2009 will have a better interior.

  • LUL!!!!

  • but the HHR is hideous tho. looks butt ugly lol

  • Do you suggest I get one?

  • I dont

    Buy a rouge sir

    or a ford escape

  • the rouge is deff smaller than the compass. the escape is good it may be bigger but it is a higer cost in price, also not as good of mpg.

  • The Escape has some of the best Mpgs in its class and its very reliable. Its also very comfortable.

I took a look at one a while back and I loved it.

The fit and finish was fantasic.

  • the escape 4X4 4 cylinder gets 19/25 the compass gets 22/27 also with a 4 cylinder 4x4. not saying teh escape is a bad car to get since i love that car and my sister has one but it doesnt have the best MPG in its class no offense

  • My mistake, But I would trade MPGs for build quality and comfort. Sync is also a bonus

  • the escape has a shit interior though. the plastics are so cheap and hard to the touch. it's such a shame that ford treats it's home market like crap while the european ford's are considered to be just as good as bmws for for thousands less.

  • The Escapes interior is one of the best in its class and the plastics are just fine.

You might wanna stop looking at a 04 model.

  • lmfao! you obviously have low standards.

  • Nope, Unlike you I pay attention to the facts.

The Escape is one of the best Cuvs in its class.

Ive looked at most of the Escape's rivals and it either beats or matchs them in just about everyarea.

Also Fords place as one of the best companys for quality only reinforces my facts.

  • sort of, but the one i'd buy (mazda cx-7) costs about $4,000 more, not sure if that still qualifies it as a competitor.

but it's true that the escape uses hard plastics throughout it's interior. it was a car built on a budget for idiots like you who won't notice.

  • Once again you are wrong.

Maybe you should actually go look at one before you open your mouth again.

  • i've been in them many times. here in new york, the hybrid versions are the new breed of taxi cabs, and also at the auto show. maybe you should sit inside one, because at a glance it looks all right, but start feeling them, especially the side panels by the windows on the doors. european cars don't have such hard plastics.

  • Like I said, Ive been inside a Escape, new and old, and Ive been inside most of its rivals. The Escape is one of the best. Also you have never seen a French car have you ?,

  • sure have, i think you're referring to the renault megane here with that shit interior. well, the megane has been revised and now looks much better. and please take a look at the european ford kuga and tell me that the interior isn't light years better than the escape, along with the exterior.

look at the mondeo and fiesta too while you're at it, and then tell me that the american fords aren't worse.

  • i wouldnt my parents bought one and its ugly as balls, on the other hand ours is light blue lol

  • what that make absoulty no sense...
