The moment Moonlight halted at the line, dropped the glove to "step up to the plate" is the moment when HE (and Terence) realized what the greatest game he ever played in his lifetime and the other will return to write, was and called back. That step he made with all the cool only Burt Lancaster or one old family doc could muster was larger than cinema or a Moon landing, a return visit to the greatest Field of all, Life on Earth. So, what you all ghosts are looking at?_get back and playball
This scene is one of the best in any movie. To this day anytime I watch this movie I choke up a little at this scene when Ray realizes Doc can't go back. Great stuff.
@mkidfe Not only that, but it was Doc who broke the spell and allowed Annie's brother to see the players on the field.. That was the Doc's true purpose for being there, moreso than his dreams, or even to save the girl's life.. Everything had a purpose..
I don't think I need to explain why I tear up during "A Catch With Dad", but my mother went to med school at 39 years old (once I was grown) - this scene always gets me pretty choked up too.
@Aetopus Dude, lay-off the violin already. MovieClips is actually part of the movie industry and they have the rights to show all these movie clips in this one channel. As for other people being able to keep copyrighted stuff on their channel, well that's only because they haven't been reported. You were the unfortunate one to get reported by some earthling asshole. Now deal with it.
Doc's REAL greatest wish was to help others. That's what he was made to do. Not play baseball. The others peaked when they were young. He only got better and better at as he aged and went out at his peak, and that's the final form that he will keep in the afterlife.
@jsharp1701 For obvious reasons, I love this movie because it reminds me of my father. But this scene always strikes a chord with me as my mother went to med school in 2004, and is now a family doctor.
Perfect casting - Burt Lancaster as Doc "Moonlight" Graham. He was always one of my favorites. This is a beautiful movie - I absolutely LOVE the fact that the producers NEVER even attempted to explain the supernatural aspects of this film. Great, great film..!!

"When did these ballplayers get here?" For a film that has a pretty serious emotional tone, that line really brings a smile to my face.
