dude i was there me and a friend went to paragon that same day and we were like oh shit free money but there was a long line so we left this was way before this happened then we hear some guys in paragon talking about how there was this guys that was jumped cus he was carrying money sure as hell glad we left before this happened
Good observation. You're right, that was not an FDNY ambulance. Most hospitals have their own ambulances, and the EMT's on them actually work for the hospital, not the city. But you still just call 911. The closest ambulance will respond - whether it's FDNY or not.
I LOVE NY, TOO. Despite the boneheads you see here. Thanks for posting it. I'm out of town and wanted to see the real thing, not the media's view of it. Later dude.
I was there. it was hilarious. I was standing at Union Square with the park guards that blocked them from doing it there. But cashtomato is legit, i won 700 off posting videos. Weird.
It's pathetic. For those of you who don't live in NYC, it's expensive as hell and the further gentrification of the outer burroughs isn't making life any easier. The subway fares just went up yesterday, in fact. This doesn't excuse the violent mob mentality we see here. Not all NYers are like this. During 9-11 and the blackout of 2004, people came together in a much more positive way.
Thank you for bringing up two very positive times when New Yorkers came together to help and support each other. It's sad that so many people have such a one-sided view of NYC, and it's unfortunate that this video got so many views, since it shows a small portion of NYers at their worst. Most of my other videos promote NYC as a great place to live (like "HappyTips"). In deed, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I've been all over the world, but I always come back to NYC. I love this town.
I was mistaken. Apparently there was a whole bag of envelopes, each with up to $29 inside, and a box of tomatoes wrapped in cash. That still doesn't make it ok, but maybe a little more understandable.
Yeah, I experienced the same thing in Hurricane Katrina. I watched generally good people become extremely greedy thinking they wouldnt have access to food and water for a long time. It was sad. But there were some good people that helped others through the worse part. It really opened my eyes to human nature and our ability to rationalize bad behavior toward others.
I agree. They were front page news on Yahoo, 1010 Wins, the Gothamist, and Consumerist. com. They also made all the New York papers yesterday. This stunt made A LOT of noise. It's too bad for them they weren't ready for it.
Off topic that Cop in plain clothes, the one with the green and glasses is a dick. He's a dirty cop and is known in that the Manhattan south neighborhood for being on the take. The stories on that guy would make your blood boil.
Cash Tomato incited a riot with the intention of having someone record and upload the riot video on their site, generating site hits. They held it in Union Square, filled with crack heads who would do anything for a buck, let alone 29, especially as we enter an economic recession.
I just read about this happening on Yahoo- frontpage story, a AP article. So my guess is you're going to get a lot of views. The article says people were yelling "Make it rain!" and "Where's my money!" LOL! People acting like savages over 29 dollars, terrorizing the mascot, snatching the money away from it. So messed up and yet so funny.
Haha. I was waiting for a comment like this. :) I was actually working in Union Square and we took a break because nobody could focus with this craziness happening across the street.
This is the problem with America: racism. I see plenty of whites in the video. I forgot, there are no poor white people in the US. Welcome to white ignorant Utopia: Stupidopia
You're right, it was really the planning that sucked. They didn't have a permit to stage the event at Union Square (they had to move it to the sidewalk across the street so it was more packed) and they underestimated the amount of people that were going to show up.
It really just happened too fast for anybody to contain. (Anybody except for NYPD). :)
Actually, because of the coverage on 1010 wins of the "riot" I came here and then went to the cash tomato website out of curiousity. In essence they might be getting more coverage than they would have if there was no fight over a few coins.
Yeah, I thought about that as I made the intro for this video because I realized I had to explain what the website was for people to understand a little more. And obviously, I went the their site to get the screen shots, and I may or may not have watched a few videos (shhh, don't tell anybody).
I had never heard of Cash Tomato and because of this they just made the front page of Yahoo with a AP article and a link to their website. If someone ran off with all the money the mascot was gonna give out, like 4 grand, that's bad but I guarantee you they've made more than 4 grand worth of publicity off this. Now their name is out there.
Sure, blame CashTomato for trying to gain popularity. Blame Wal-Mart for all it's low price proliferation. Blame MySpace for all the sexual predators. Blame YouTube for all the exploitation happening today. The responsibility lies within the person throwing the punch, making the push, taking the grab. It was sad to watch this, all for 29 bucks. CashTomato doesn't suck, it's the greed and selfishness that sucks. Me before you; I'm gonna get mine...sad.
I agree with you. I was really just saying that because I knew I'd be posting this on YouTube and they're a rival website. It's the same idea as stating Boston sucks because I'm a Yankee fan.
I give CashTomato props for thinking outside the box to get their name out there. I've always admired "Richard Branson" tactics for publicity. It's just too bad this stunt didn't work out the way they had planned.
What idiots who plan this out, if i was to hear this was in the plans i'd trash it cause I KNOW its going to be a TOTALLY BAD Idea, AND i'm from brklyn, SHEEEECH!!
Jeez Lueez!! I'm From brklyn and their managment infrastructure in making this decision about making this stunt is TOTALLY idiotic! What Morons who decided a plan like this, ESPECIALLY NYC!
you notice all the people that are all fighting are AMAZING BLACK!!! who woulda though that blacks would riot for 29 free dollas. i keeps it real ya . vote obama that only non gangsta black in america.
Yeah, I read about that this morning. I read that one guy ran off with the bag of cash and everyone left ended up fighting over nothing. That's even worse!
What an idiotic publicity stunt. When you try to give away moderate sums of cash to recession torn New Yorkers on the street, this is usually the result. I guess the knucklehead who financed this thing must feel like one of those smashed tomatoes right now!
I read that they had done a similar stunt in several other cities with no serious incident. The main problem they ran into here is that they didn't have a permit, so they were forced to improvise on the spot, and they didn't think it through.
thats why i love fhetto people
